I agree with you. One of the finest songwriters many years ago was Kevin Ayers. I recommend the following songs: "MAY I" "BLUE SUEDE SHOES" "SHOUTING IN A BUCKET BLUES" "AM I REALLY MARCEL" Many greetings to all music lovers from Bangkok.
This song got me through an especially acrimonious divorce in 1996 it made me laugh then and still makes me smile whenever I hear it now. So many great lines..... 'how was I to know that just one kiss...….. could turn my frog into a cow' and the sound of the guillotine falling gave me a lovely image of my ex missus, God bless her. Thank you Neil Hannon for this and so many other clever lyrics. A truly great wordsmith.
"And now I'm rid of her I must confess /To thinking 'bout what might have been /And I can visualise my frog princess /Beneath a shining... guillotine." Some of the greatest lyrics ever...
29,000 views (at the time I'd writing) with 1 (possibly accidental) dislike. Must be some kind of a record. I think that there is a melancholy, albeit comedic , truth behind this sing that has struck a chord. I'm still quite new to The Devine Comedy but they just keep impressing me with everything they do. The combination of whimsy and depth is intoxicating (apologies for my arcane use of the word 'whimsy' - it is far too weak a term to express my feelings but it is the best I can do).
I haven't seen or heard this since it first came out. I always thought he was a bit weird but had a gteat voice. Watching it now he doesn't seem at all weird. Seeing it after all these years he slightly reminds me of Woody from This is England.
I think himself & his partner another Irish musician called Cathy Davey have a pig rescue farm in Wicklow. My lovely pig is it's name🤔 Father was a ch of Irl bishop
One of the finest singer songwriters of the last twenty five years

My dad give me this cd. He committ suicide. I feel a connection to him. Soulmates
Neil Hannon is indeed one of the best songwriters of our generation. He is an an influence on my music.
He is a modern Burt Bacharach, the northern irish son ;)
Listening to this music reminds me of the last time I Was truly happy. 🙂
Amen brother.
Finest lyricist of his generation. Thanks Neil.
such an ignored gem. shows off the quality of this band perfectly. adore this so much
One of my favorite songs of all time
A seriously underrated song writer/singer . But that's OK with me . I love him

Woah, I've known this song for a decade yet never suspected there was a video. Love it, miss the dandy days, back when he was more literary-focused.
neil hannon, living the life of a poet !
"And now I'm rid of her I must confess

Hilarious 😂
"You don't really love me!" Amazing lyrics, amazing video
This song reminds me of my father. Never had the chance to get to know him but same great taste in music.
Casanova is an album full of great songs like this one.
Another hit I've not heard since it last charted
Love this , been played to death since the 90s
Absolute classic
My golden mantle and yours ✨️🫶🎧
A wonderful depth to the voice, the lyrics & the score. A real work of genius, I agree Pawel Lopatka. :-)
Looking forward to seeing them on Sunday in Nottingham x
This was played a lot by radio 1 back in the day wish it still was.
Great voice great lyrics
Intelligent, cultured, sarcastic, arch, hilarious. I could go on.😅
Fabulous!
Knows all the cords....love him...
Most underrated singer ever
Neil Hannon is a poetic, melodic modern day, #piedpiper of #music #follow cos he's amazing 🥰
Love that synth bass bub-wub-wub-bub
one of my faves
Do the 3 of you not understand the pair of you are singularly brilliant
Discovered him when he opened for Tori Amos in '94 I think it was. I still have my ticket... Man I feel old.
Ditto at the Ulster hall in belfast
I feel like there must be some good Divine Comedy and Magnetic Fields fandom overlap

Rescuing pigs? The imagination boggles.
Last seen hanging around Leinster House looking for Mary Lou and Simon Harris.
Oh how I miss the days of eloquent put-downs and witty one-liners in society!
I think those days only existed in books and films, though!
Genius
Like the princess in the frog!
I once had a frog prince... 🐸
💙💙
You and me mate!
❤
A version of this is played in the background of Netflix's Harry&Megan trailer.
Gloriously cynical great melody
😍😍😍😍
I would be tempted to stick around just to return the favor.
Could probably do a good bowie cover
He did a cover of Life on Mars on Yann Tiersen Black Session in 1998.
200,000 views for this masterpiece and some trash by someone called Swift has a few billion.
Number 300 I'm not a frog nor a princess
The music edits on this are terrible
Wonderful song. Slightly disappointing video.
Disappointing? How so?
