I have a waterproof mattress protector on my bed. Not one of those foam toppers. How often do I need to replace it?

I just can't answer this with any type of basis. I would look for signs of wear, you will see it in the area where you lay. If there is any type of batting in it, over time it will become compressed and will not offer any cushion between you and the mattress. Mattresses are often made from rough synthetic fabric. A mattress pad offers a layer of protection to your mattress and they generally have a batting which provides a little more softness. I hope this helps.
