The dishes on here were way simpler than in the more up-to-date series. One year, Marcus Wareing won his place in the Queen’s banquet by making an egg custard tart. Yes, it was a great custard tart (he released the recipe and I made it), but it was ‘just’ a custard tart with no fancy techniques or processes. It was delicious - but the point is that it was a very achievable recipe at home. In the current series, the majority of the dishes cannot really be achieved by the home cook.
The banquets have changed over the years mind. This was for the Queen, a few series later it was for a banquet hosted by Heston Blumenthal. Marcus Wareing in the second series made a good point, the second series was a banquet at the French consulate, he couldn’t cook a Lancashire hotpot for that.
I went to the same college as her and worked with her in the Student Union bar. She's a lovely person, totally unpretentious which probably reflects on the quality of food she cooks.
