A childhood friend of mine adopted 2 kids that his wife had previously. She ended up cheating on him with the kids original father, divorced him and went back to their original father. Now he is paying child support for both of the kids he adopted while she is back with the kid's dad. I told him that he brought this on himself.

I knew at a *VERY* young age that I would never allow myself to be a stepfather.
I was raised by a single mother, so I know the contempt I had for any man that tried to be a part of our lives. In my young mind, he was a stranger, and he wasn't my father, so I didn't want him around. He wasn't welcome.
At a young age, I knew I never wanted to be that guy.

I played that step-dad role, but, i had a very good reason. MY SON was 14 and playing dad to his 2 year old half-sister. I wanted MY SON to be a child/teenager. That's the only reason I stepped in. His mothèr and I were divorced. And no, we had no sexual relationship. At 16, MY SON'S sister said the words, loud and clear.....You Ain't My Daddy. And that was the end of me giving 1 more F#@k.😅😮
Instead of stepping in.. you should have pulled your son out and took him to outings more often. That would have forced her hand to take care of her child. What happened to your son when he turned 16 and you stopped, did he take over again?

I was in my wife’s son life for 14yrs now. He started calling me dad the day we got married. I’ll say this, when everything is cool around the house he’s our son. When I get on his ass to be a better man this it’s her son. I know the world isn’t going to hand a man anything so I try make sure he knows that. Depending on how the child is raised when you meet them, it can be a blessing or a curse.
I definitely believe that as well. All how those children are raised and their morals. I can’t even factor in age, because I’ve seen older children give their step father much respect. It’s really on how the mothers are raising their kids… I’m sure *sometimes* you can already tell what you’ll deal with just dealing with the mother. Definitely can be a blessing or a curse.

I just went through the “stepdad” thing. It’s all good when you doing for the child nd providing but when it comes to correcting any negative behaviors then you have no rights whatsoever to say or do anything . Never again! I have one child nd that’s all I’m providing for.

Fathers, it is so important to stay active, consistent, and reliable in your child's life. Especially the little girls. I longed to have that relationship! Shout out to the great dads who are giving it their all! ❤ Biggest dilemma when I got married, walk with step dad or bio dad. Perhaps as daughters we want that connection with the bio dad so badly, it's very hard to choose. It's biology, not logic I guess.

If you don’t fall into those two camps and choose not to pay towards your child’s upbringing you don’t contribute. That’s why the attitude is I’ll squeeze you in kids with my leftover time. in the UK it’s called CSA and I pay each month. It’s not the states it’s the UK. Where many women gain benefits for any little thing.
I was at work on a night shift when I called in.

@@doubler477 I’m in the U.K. the CSA ran from 1993 until 2012. You pay because the mother of the two daughters made a new benefit claim in one of those years otherwise you wouldn’t be paying monthly. The CSA was designed to reduce the benefit bill and any money you paid would be deducted from her benefits. If she hadn’t claimed benefits the CSA wouldn’t be involved as they weren’t interested. It’s not remotely similar to the US system.
If you were in 2024 you would be paying child maintenance monthly because there’s no CSA just a body that mainly deals with arrangements made in the timespan I refer to.
Female, always worked including nights, have two children, never been on benefits, no child maintenance etc. Have two children by one deadbeat one a solicitor the other a teacher. His firstborn son changed his surname to his stepdad’s because it was him who put the work in on a daily basis. He done that as an adult(not my son). The man has 5 children by 3 mothers none claimed any benefit or child support. If a man hasn’t got the decency to give nothing or leftovers after making children by 3 different women let him. He’ll get his alarm call later. A lot of black men were happy their baby mothers were on benefits until they were asked to share the bill only then was it a problem.

@@doubler477 CSA ran from 1993-2012. Your children’s mother made a NEW benefit claim during that time and so you were pursued. If she wasn’t claiming benefits CSA wouldn’t have bothered. Her benefit was reduced by the amount you pay. She didn’t pocket the money you were paying the government does. The CSA didn’t bother pursue fathers when the mother wasn’t claiming as it was designed to reduce the taxpayer burden. It was not about supporting children. Those who were already on benefits before 1993 those men didn’t get pursued either.
You used that term because in the US setting it’s loaded. The woman working or not can go to the courthouse to get child support. If you are not married there’s no equivalent set up here. Child maintenance is usually dealt with as part of divorce proceedings. You paid child maintenance for the other three every month from day one. Let me tell you what you done. I can’t give you because child 2 and 3 the CSA is x amount. However you guys have no problem leaving the state to pay you have no problem with women claiming every benefit going until the government said your children you pay. Then a women being on benefit was a problem
People who understand what it is to be a responsible parent don’t have four “baby mothers”. Once you start doing that nonsense you by definition can’t do the job. At best you pass through throwing leftovers here and there
