It’s why my interpretation of the ending was that Walt in his last moments died a bit more as “Walter White” than as “Heisenberg” contrary to a lot of other people’s interpretations. The last things that he did before he died was getting revenge on the people responsible for Hank’s death, saving Jesse even though the last time they saw each other he ordered the Nazis to kill him, and he showed no interest in the whereabouts of most of his money. While the last episode finally marked his acceptance that he was no longer “Walter White” but his last act of defiance moments before he died showed that he still went out more as “Walter White” than “Heisenberg.”

I feel like that is undercut by the fact that Walt never really valued the 80 Million that way, sure he liked having money but he knew he was dying, and the pride came from being the one who provided for his family, which at this point he already accomplished. Because even the one barrel he had was a shit ton of money, he was far from broke before he gave away the money.

i find that tuco made a fantastic preamble for gus. tuco was unstable, irrational and violently inconsistent. it made us relieved to see gus’ patience and consistency. tuco’s addition also made the audience annoyed when walt messes with gus, as compared to what jesse and walt had with tuco, gus is heaven to the duo, and we dont want them to go back to someone like tuco. safe, consistent money. truly emphasises one of mikes final lines “we had a good thing, and you had to screw it up with your pride”

I was rooting for Gus too. And Mike... and Jesse. Part of me wishes that Those four people just became partners and conquered the criminal world with their meth empire.

People treat Walter like the villain but the truth is he is just good at what he does, unlike Jesse which is a lucky junky with 0 loyalty, and mike with the "i'm gonna pay those stupid guys in prison". BB is so great because it unfolds like a great tragedy, more like a classic novel. Each chapter makes the noose a little tighter, raises the stakes a little higher. It builds towards something undeniable. Most TV series aren’t written like this, they have a good season and say ‘let’s do it again’, rinse-and-repeat, with patchy results until they’re cancelled. To compare BB series is like reading a book and saying I don’t like chapter 5 as much as chapter 8; it’s all part of the same story, how can you differentiate? Similarly what might make chapter 8 great is all the groundwork laid in chapter 5 which bears fruit in the later chapter. You have to value each in the context of the whole. What I love most about the show is the continuity; how the characters sink ever deeper into their own personal hell, episode by episode, series by series.

Those “boring” episodes in early season 2 are not fluff, they are crucial for the characters’ journeys. The rift between Walt and Skyler slowly widening as his lies get out of hand, and his failed attempts to reconnect without taking any accountability were early signs of his moral deterioration. Jesse hitting rock bottom after being evicted by his parents, and Hank’s PTSD following his encounter with Tuco made them both more sympathetic to me. But I’ll admit they did drag out the whole tiara shoplifting plot line for a bit long.

5b was such a poetic ending!
    Hanks Death was crushing.
Season 4 and 5 really gave Dean Norris that time to develop his character. Going from this charismatic guy, who’s posing at the scene of a crime to “I’m not the man I thought I was”.
The scene where Walt terrifies his family, and sees Walt Jr protecting Skylar. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s acting are incredible.

I love season 2. It’s very cozy and character driven. I also like that things aren’t too tense throughout, there’s a lot of scenes of them dealing with real and more personal problems, it also shows more of the street-level drug business, a lot of important characters are introduced, the main characters are developed and we get to know them better and care for them. It has very entertaining and interesting episodes etc. I really like when things are more calmed and the there’s not a MAIN conflict the whole season. It makes it more realistic and easier to get to know the characters. I feel like that’s exactly what a season 2 is supposed to be.

Season 2 and Season 4 are tied for my favorite seasons of Breaking Bad, I felt Season 2 did an incredible job of exploring the theme of actions having consequences with Jane's storyline which is one of my favorites of the whole show. The fact that Walt's decision to let Jane die ultimately lead to the deaths of all those people in the plane crashes really shows how Walt's actions will have ripples far outside those close to him. Season 2 also has one of my favorite scenes in the whole show at the end of Episode 10 where Walt meets the two other drug makers, at first offering advice before realizing they'll be competition if they set up and tells them to stay out of his territory. That scene in my opinion is when Walt truly becomes Heisenberg and realizes he enjoys it

The way it slows down the series for a moment and we get to explore the characters of Walter and Jesse quite peacefully for one American hour is just amazing and refreshing. The first time I watched it, I didn't mind it but it wasn't a favorite of mine. On repeat rewatches it has risen up the ranks and it might just be my personal favorite. My categorisation of the seasons goes like this:
Season 1 - black comedy, they just started the show and didn't really knew what they wanted the series to be, we can see also a few elements of action and thriller.
Season 2 - a full time drama, where they really tried to make it about the characters, plus it was the only season that there was focus on the subject of drug addicts and the consequences of these addictions, a subject they didn't really talked about since, but it would be impossible to make a show about drug manufacture without dealing with this subject in some way.
Season 3 - not a lot to say about it, I feel like it was the leadup to season 4 in a lot of ways and kind of served as a continuation of the characters' arcs in season 2 and set the foundation for the main plot of season 4.
Season 4 - a full time thriller, some elements of action and drama but mainly thriller, it had a really large focus on the main plot and not a lot of side stories.
Season 5 first half - the most focus on action they had until that point, with a little bit of thriller and elements of crime drama, and I think that it was supposed to be the appearant end of the story, because every story point was tied up until Hank found the book.
Season 5 second half - a totally different style than the first half of the season, it had a major focus on crime drama, sort of like The Sopranos, and a few elements of action

    In my opinion:
    5. Season 1 - 8.70/10
    4. Season 2 - 9.05/10
    3. Season 3 - 9.40/10
    2. Season 4 - 9.90/10
    1. Season 5A - 9.75/10
    0. Season 5B - 10.0/10
    My reasoning:
Season 1 - Solid introduction to the show and its characters, some of which are interesting while others are meh. It gives the viewer somewhat of an idea as to where the show is headed, but overall nothing truly special, just good.
Season 2 - This is where it starts to get a bit more interesting. The conflict between Walt and his family intensifies a bit as Skyler comes closer to finding out about Walt’s secrets. Everything involving Jesse and Jane was also great, ending with an amazing plot twist that develops both Walt and Jesse. The world also expands as we get introduced to characters and elements that would later play a pivotal role in the story, such as Gus, Saul, Mike and the Cartel. Previously introduced characters, such as Hank and Jesse, start to truly develop, which was very welcome. My main criticism would be that it may sometimes feel a bit slow when compared to the other seasons.
Season 3 - The plot starts to thicken. All of the elements that were introduced in both seasons 1 and 2 start to cross paths, with probably the best example being Hank tirelessly pursuing Jesse. Skyler starts to get more focus, which makes her relationship with Walt fall apart, only for them to become a couple once again, but this time around as crime buddies. The cousins were also a great addition, offering us the first major antagonistic force of the show (maybe even more menacing than Tuco), although I did wish the creators explored them just a tad bit more. Speaking about the cousins, their shootout with Hank is probably the most important moment for his character, as we start to see how a man with a tough guy persona like him can still be somewhat fragile. Walt’s confrontation with Gus also begins here, with the last two episodes of the season giving us a glimpse into what said confrontation will be like in the next season, as well as showing how Walt can be truly manipulative of Jesse.
Season 4 - If someone were to tell me this is the best Breaking Bad season, I would 100% understand. What I find most fascinating about this season is that while still developing the characters and giving the even more depth than before, it also manages to make us totally invested in Walt’s rivalry with Gus. Everything involving these two, ranging from Gus’s distaste for Hector and the Cartel to Walt’s elaborate plan to kill him and complete his transformation into Heinsenberg is just top notch, really. As I said before, however, there’s more to this season than that. Both Skyler and Jesse take a really dark turn and you start to understand that both of these characters are deeply emotionally scarred, obviously due do the fact that they have to constantly interact with Walt. There’s also Hank coming closer and closer to Heinsenberg’s true identity, which further escalated the conflict in the season. To be honest, this feels like a flawless season. The tone starts to change, and you feel like everything gets darker and darker as the season progresses. The only reason I put it below Season 5 is because, in my opinion, Season 5 is actual peak fiction. Regardless, Season 4 is an amazing, giant chess game that manages to get the viewers at the edges of their seats.
Season 5A- As I stated before, peak fiction. I will admit: Season 4 felt like a perfect ending to me at first. However, now that I think about it, the show couldn’t have ended without this absolute masterpiece of a season that is Season 5. There were still many things to be resolved, such as the Lily of The Valley plot point, the rise of Walt’s empire, and whether or not Hank would finally catch the great Heinsenberg. And believe me when I say: this season delivers in pretty much any way. The first half, while being somewhat slow, is actually very important to the story. I say that because the actual plot of the show doesn’t really progress that much throughout this first section, which many people would consider a bummer at first hand. However, the purpose of of the 1st half is to actually consolidate Walt as a true kingpin of the methamphetamine business, which is evidenced by the fact he expands his business overseas and that him and his crew are forced to come up with inventive solutions to get more resources or just getting rid of problems in general. That’s not to say that the first half doesn’t focus on the characters themselves, though. Todd’s killing of an innocent child after the train heist offers some great drama and sparkles the conflict between him and Jesse, who at this point we know has a great care for kids. It’s also really satisfactory seeing Walt finally achieve the same status as Gus and the other characters’s reaction to that, with the most notable example being Lydia, who fears Walt with all her might. This half ending with a cliffhanger was also a really smart move by the producers.
Season 5B - We finally got to him: the big boy. You better believe my words when I say this is some of THE best fictional works out there. Seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5A were all amazing in their own rights, but this last bit of Breaking Bad’s phenomenal story is what makes this show one of the classics. If all of what came previously was just an intense build up (which don’t get me wrong, it was much more than that), this was an emotional, heart-breaking payoff. Walter, the Cancer, Jesse, the Meth, Hank, Skyler, Marie, Walter. Jr, Gretchen, Elliot, Tuco, Hector, Jane, Saul, Gus, Mike, the Cousins, the Cartel, Gale, the Neo Nazis, Lydia and many more other elements were all pieces of this story that, in a way or another, contributed to these 8 spectacular final episodes. Skyler has now depression, Jesse experiences loss yet again, Hank finally learns to express humility, Walter Jr. has to deal with the fact his father is a wanted drug lord, Marie’s beloved husband is now no longer with her... and of course, Walter manages to fulfill his dream and feel alive at the cost of hundreds, if not thousands of innocent lives. This dark ending is what we knew was coming, and yet couldn’t predict. A coming of age story, to say the least.

I agree 100% with this list (though it's kind of a toss up between seasons 1 and 2). Seasons 4 and 5b are literally the best episodes of a TV show to ever exist. I had insane goosebumps after Walt finally kills Gus and the song starts playing while he talks to Skylar - "I won.". Absolutely incredible.
I've watched the show 5 times and am gearing up for #6 before rewatching BCS (got through 3/4 of the show but need to start over since I forget what happened while waiting for the last season),

The Granite State ending was so well built, the main theme, Heisenberg waking up again, it was just awesome and chilling...GREATEST show for me..!

They said that they thought about putting the theme in the scene where Gus walks out of the room in Face Off but it didn't fit. Granite States ending is probably my favorite ending to an episode in all of TV

I loved Season 2, might have been my favorite one. There's tons of epic stuff later but I loved some of the characters and individual stories in Season 2. Jane's also my favorite character in the show so that probably makes an impact.

I loved it too it’s definitely the building blocks of the show but it introduces so many good characters

Season 2 is so underrated imo, some great characters are introduced (Saul Goodman, Mike, Gustavo Fring...), the abduction of Jesse and Walt by Tuco kept me on the edge of my seat and I think the buildup of the plane crash with the pink teddy bear scenes scattered thorought the season are genius.

I love season 1. Everyone for some reason seem to hate season 1 only because its not constantly walter white being paranoid af like he does later in the show.

Yeah me too. Idk maybe I'm a sucker for the origin stories but the camper cooking times were so simple yet so great.

When you talk about Breaking Bad as an unparalleled masterpiece that has so affected your life, I am right there with ya man. In terms of art, it is at the top of my list. I'd be amazed if anything could take its place.
The bitter-sweetness of the ending and what comes after is also a favorite of mine - simply how Walt did succeed, in a way. Assuming he scared Gretchen and Elliot enough (which I believe he did,) his family will receive $9+ million dollars - more than enough to take care of all 3 of them, plus even Marie, for the rest of their lives. Except they'll never know it was actually Walt that did it. That's kind of the ultimate price he paid - his ego dies with him.
