    Thank you! The insurance company screwed me over and wouldn't replace my siding after a hail storm. I couldn't use the money to replace the parts that were damaged because mine is faded and would look terrible. I never even cashed the check. I want to sell but knew the hail damage would kill the sale. Now I'm confident I can fix the damage with confidence! Not too many holes but wide spread. You are wonderful!

    Omg, you have no idea how great this is for me. I have 1980s Masonite like siding with holes in it. I can’t buy replacement panels anymore, so I have to repair holes, and Masonite isn’t wood, it’s much weaker, I’m been stressing for years how to repair it, I’m trying this TODAY, thanks Moonlighting Jane!!

    I'm wondering if a shot of expanding foam behind the hole, trim the excess when it dries, then doing your steps here would work. It may give the tape more support, especially for larger areas of damage.

    Nice video. Is there a way to repair the very bottom piece of aluminum siding that has been covered by too much soil from the flower bed and now crumbles like paper when you touch it? Again, the whole piece is in tact. It’s only the very bottom probably 0.5 inch that is damaged. The total width is 4 inches and length is 44 inches. I want to paint the siding but want to repair this area first. Many thanks in advance for your advice. Some people told me there is some kind of metal edge trim or lip that can be put under the siding, but I do not know exactly what this is.

    • @coolfixin2313
      @coolfixin2313  4 года назад +1

      That is a challenging repair that I have not faced. I would cut about 60” of siding to place over the damaged piece. I would apply the new siding to the existing siding using construction glue. Then I would paint the siding. Good Luck!! Let me know if it worked by commenting below your original question.

      I am really not sure if that would help. However, I like this idea. The next time that I do this job, I will probably caulk the hole first. Then apply the aluminum foil tape, three thin layers of caulk, and paint. Caulking the hole first could not hurt.

      Hi nice video. Gets right to the point and is simple. Going to try this on my camper and was wondering about filling the hole first too. If not caulk maybe spray foam to fill the void so the tape doesn’t puncture easily. I have a camper and being that it is more likely to be exposed to high winds on the roadways, filling it first would be a must. I love that this is an economical and sensible solution.

    • @coolfixin2313
      @coolfixin2313  2 года назад

      It depends on the quality of work that you are searching. Of course, there is no better repair quality than to pull the damaged siding off and replace with new siding. Replacing siding is much more time consuming. Also, your replacement siding color may be slightly, but noticeably different. I have had a lot of success with this repair method. Good Luck!

    I tried to do this but by filling the hole with caulk instead of using tape and a few days later when I checked on it, it had a consistency like soft bubblegum or something. Isn't there some type of caulk that dries hard like plastic? Just curious..
    Im prob going to rip that caulk out and do it the way you showed here.

    • @coolfixin2313
      @coolfixin2313  6 лет назад +1

      This is useful information. Three months ago, RareEnigma asked if caulking first would be helpful. He wondered if he should caulk the hole, tape the hole, and caulk over the tape. I admitted that I did not know. Did you apply the aluminum foil tape right after caulking? Or did you only use caulking to fill the hole. I know that caulking alone would fail. However, caulking, taping, and caulking over the tape may or may not be better than my method. Please write back. I am curious about your results.

    • @BluelightGaming1
      @BluelightGaming1 6 лет назад

      CoolFixin' I used caulk only and it failed because the big glob of caulk was too thick and couldn't dry properly underneath. Yesterday I started your method. I'm going to apply 2 more coats of caulk over the tape today and probably try to paint this week.
      I would say based on my experience, that caulking first and putting tape over it wouldn't work. That would hinder the drying of the caulk underneath as well.
      I wish instead of caulk, I could find something similar to use that dried a little harder and could be sanded.

    Obtain a piece of siding cut at least 3 ft off and then trim off the top lip of the siding. Use silicone to install the new piece over top of the hole and make sure you're siding is not near another seam . Now laminate the entire piece over the Hole. Easy peasy and not one of these Tobacco Road fixes . You will not even notice it.

      I like your repair option. I also still like the method in this video.

      Oh oh! Since the squirrels are already interested in this area, I suggest that you cut a thin piece of sheet metal over the hole. Cover the hole with aluminum foil duct tape and complete the repair as indicated in this video. Good Luck!
