I'm fine with blobs but they do look a bit like a modified box plot (or box and whisker plot), where extra boxes are showing the results of something like the 75th and 25th centiles(?). But blobs works.
Excellent Alex, really like the comparisons of data and the different models and how it affects the UK as a whole. Far better than the tendency to be SE-centric in daily forecasting
As always Mr Deakin a clear and accessible weather report , this kind of information is brilliant , and allows farmers and gardeners to plan their crop sowing and have a much clearer idea about the weather ahead 🙏
blobs is good :) Though I assume they are the boxes of a box and whisker plot. Thanks again for another wonderful longer length and in-depth forecast - my favourite!
I've never really watched the weather forecast (we don't have a tv) but that was really interesting, well presented too. I'd like to learn more about the symbols etc on the charts.
Blobs = Letter-value box plot (sometimes refered to as a boxen plot) Other variants of box plots include Notched, Violin, Vase, Bean, Box-percentile/Variable.
A great and extremely informative forecast Alex! Don’t worry about the “blobs”, call them what you like it’s descriptive of what they represent after all, to my mind I always see them as baubles! It sounds like the heat will be ideal, as it always seems to go from cold to hot 🥵 at least the forecast temperatures will be ideal for going for some very brisk walks, runs too. A great forecast, very many thanks Alex
Thanks for bringing some good news! Today I learned something new from you. I guess it's okay to use 'blob', it's related to the droplet. For colour blobs, you may use 'daub'.
Looking at one blob, the likely temperature falls within a range, the top and bottom of which are represented by the top and bottom of the blob, as read on the y-axis. The blobs are an unusual type of box plot. They remind me of violin plots where the fatter the blob, or violin, at a particular temperature, the more likely that temperature. However, these plots are simpler, they have rectangles within them representing (from top to bottom) the upper quartile, interquartile range (showing the mean as a horizontal line) and lower quartile of likelihood (probability) of that temperature occurring, instead of a violin plot’s kernel density estimation line, which makes them look like violins. The interquartile range rectangle is wider than the upper and lower quartiles just to make it easier to see which temperatures are most likely. I would love to know how the plots were created, never seen anything like them before.
yes i fed up with the sunny dry weather cos thats all i seen over manchester for the past year not much rain i watch the radar and it melts away before it gets over me ,not saying we had nothing but nothing like they forecast,
We seem to stick to the same weather pattern for months on end. The weather seasons have changed so much since the 60s 70s and 80s. Am i the only one to have noticed that it all changed after the Michel Fish hurricane in 1987. That was the turning point of all this climate change.
Same old story , never put your boat in the water , before the 1 st JUNE . An older chap said that to me 30 years ago . Blobs ? trying to juggle a row of spinning plates to keep the public happy .
Blobs is fine by me, and thanks for explaining everything clearly and in such an accessible way Alex :)
😟my tools don't like blobs ....
@@robinblackman4509 ??

Thanks Met Office, and I especially enjoyed your confidence graph Alex! Top notch 😎👌
Rain or no rain Alex, your stye of explanation certainly brings the sunshine. Thank you.
It's a La Niña year so it will be wet and unsettled pretty much most of the year; like 2012, the last time it was a La Niña

Thanks Alex! Incidentally I think the blobs are box and whisker plots
BaWPs?
blobs is good :) Though I assume they are the boxes of a box and whisker plot. Thanks again for another wonderful longer length and in-depth forecast - my favourite!
"Blob" certainly works for me :-)
Thanks, Alex, Jetstream animation is cool. That jetstream trying so hard to get back into place. Time will tell? All should return to normal? Right?
The anorak's forecast - can't thank you enough. And they're blobs.
Showing the confidence graph in the winter would be really helpful too
Cheers Alex!
Im fascinated by weather i love hearing about the details of the jet stream etc thank you so much
Me too so much to learn and the detail is brilliant
I've never really watched the weather forecast (we don't have a tv) but that was really interesting, well presented too. I'd like to learn more about the symbols etc on the charts.
this lad would be a great teacher, he draws you in
Thank you for this amazing forecast

Great 10 day trend thanks! Fingers crossed for some warmth! Could be markers or indicators but I love “blobs” personally 😊
Thank god for that. Because every weekend due to the bad weather, I keep sneezing and having allergy attacks in the morning

Could just do with a blob of nice weather :-)
I will second that…. Blobs and all 😁😁😁
There might be some nice weather
Thank you so much for sharing The 10 days trend weather ☁️ focused...👍✨💫
Blobs are usually called "candles" by traders, they look the same.
Looking at one blob, the likely temperature falls within a range, the top and bottom of which are represented by the top and bottom of the blob, as read on the y-axis. Thanks Alex 👍
Aren’t they box and whisker plots if its a statistical analysis? Blobs are fine though if it works for people.
I believe these are box and whisker plots Alex :)
Thanks team. 😀
I think they are called box and whisker plots, although blob and whisker, or fishing float plots are more interesting
I'd say they look more like dumbells. Also when is the weather studio live recommencing. Miss watching those live streams!
Thak you for the forecast.. now please tell us when Proper warm/hot spring and summer weather will be kicking in lol
Thank you x
Should it not be called the 7-day trend as it only goes as far as Tuesday 25th.
Very nicely done Alex, thank you
Blobs are alright but if you want to be posh you could use the word "indicators"
How about renaming them spinning tops?
'Blobs' is fine with me but if you want to appease others, markers might be suitable?
thank you Alex
Hello Met Office weather when is it going to be a thunderstorm
Thanks. This great, really love the detailed explaination
In trading these are called candlesticks. Apt, as burning candles and praying for decent weather is pretty much what I've done all month
I AM SICK OF THIS UNSETTLED WET WEATHER :(
Thanks .hope it gets better.
That’s very interesting. Thank you, Alex. “Blob” is about my level......!🤓😂
very wet may what planet you on 7 days with showers and may some lite rain in manchester bone dry in april
We want warm sun when do we want it now
Very informative, I like it.
yes i fed up with the sunny dry weather cos thats all i seen over manchester for the past year not much rain i watch the radar and it melts away before it gets over me ,not saying we had nothing but nothing like they forecast,
Or even like the glass bulbs inside my galileo temperature indicator, the ones that go up or down with the room heat
This is an interesting way to do it but I feel like 8 minutes as just too much
Red blob - expect it to be unsettled to start with blowing both hot and cold, followed by storms in a teacup.
I think they’re called Candlesticks?
Exactly like winter but 3 degrees warmer haha.. no hope...
ok its rain for the holidays for me and sun ehen its back to work ..thanks for the clear explanation
It's a candlestick chart so they're called candles.
Yeah the name differs depending on who you ask
Reminds me of a saying my mum used to quote. Cast ne'er a clout til May is out"! Shakespeare I believe?
My Dad would say that It would either rain or go dark before morning!
Our version is ne'er flit a clout till May is oot.
We seem to stick to the same weather pattern for months on end. The weather seasons have changed so much since the 60s 70s and 80s. Am i the only one to have noticed that it all changed after the Michel Fish hurricane in 1987. That was the turning point of all this climate change.
I like blob. Blob is good. ☺️
I always thought the blobs were called candles like on trading charts? Though I think I like blobs better 😁
You could call them spinning tops
Let's go for blobs, many thanks 😊
There has been no spring this year
They look like spinning tops Alex!
Instead of blobs how about thingys or thingummyjigs :D also thanks in advance for the improvement.
You do know that Alex just reports on the weather? He doesn't arrange it!
They are called box plots :)
I think they might be nodules Alex maybe, maybe not.
We seem to be having April in May. The climate change could be due to coming Anthropocenne Age, and the end of the interglacial phase.
I prefer the red blobs... Thanks 👍
Blobs are called nodes
Oooh no! Again???
Restrictions easing winter weather imminent
Why not call a 'blob' a 'blob.
Yes!
Lovley weather during lockdown
Cmon Alex... floats!
call them floats
Red blobs = candle sticks
"blobs" = "spark-plugs"?
UGI - Unidentified Graphic Icon
The blobs remind me of fishing floats.
Nah! not blobs - "Podules" (see NTNO'Clock News)
are these lows caused by brexit
They couldn't quite bring themselves to say cold.
They look like fishing floats to me
Same old story , never put your boat in the water , before the 1 st JUNE . An older chap said that to me 30 years ago . Blobs ? trying to juggle a row of spinning plates to keep the public happy .
Red markers mate !
red blobs, how about red marker's to mark a point in time.
Hopefully none of this has anything to do with chemtrails 🤞🏽
Not blobs maybe bobbins.
Yes do more videos
Call them the red predictions marks
Call them markers
I think beads would be a better word
Blobs disliked by Mr Blobby
Buoy or float
Do blobs make Alex Mr Blobby? 😂
Blobs are box and whisker plots.
Bobbins
Spinning tops instead of blobs :)
