  • I've always said that when picking a chair for your gaming / streaming setup, a good quality, well supporting chair should be your priority. That's why when I heard Herman Miller said they were getting into gaming chairs, I was massively hyped. Herman Miller sent over the Sayl Gaming Chair for me to take a look at. It's got everything I want from a office chair but also style!
    Here's a link to the chair (Black Friday Going on) :
    UK : ukgaming.herma...
    US : store.hermanmi...
    EU: degaming.herma...
    This chair was sent from Herman Miller.

    I've had mine a few days and I'm really pleased. I kept the cost down by opting for the all black and getting the height adjustable arms (not the 4d) and leaving off the additional lumbar support on advice from the sales person, but got everything else. The chair was originally designed without additional support and it works just fine. The back is surprisingly comfortable and the seat is firm but comfy. Would definitely recommend!

    I have a Sayl and its a really great chair I plan to have for a long long time. I suggest going with the non-gaming version. First of all you dont have to pay for the "gaming" markup and the regular version comes with more customization options for ergonomics and colors.

    • @Soulbreeze

      Was just going to ask why the 'gaming' version is like 100 bucks more. figured it was just marketing.

    • @tch204
      @tch204 2 года назад +1

      I've looked into it, and if I'm I understand correctly, having the same adjustable options as the gaming variant (i.e. fully adjustable arm rests and adjustable seat depth) costs $835 vs. the $775 of the gaming version. If you start customizing the colors for the non-gaming version (which are limited), the price goes up even further. You get to add the lumbar support, but at a significant increase in cost if you have the same base options as the gaming version :(

    Great review! I got an Aeron in 1999 and it remains in excellent shape for my spouse now working at home. Need to replace the foam lumbar and foam seat pan ring because they wear out over time, but it is still rocking otherwise. I just ordered a Sayl from HM for myself bec/grad school efforts will be home-based for foreseeable future. Hope you still enjoy your chair.

  • @LostStylus
    @LostStylus 3 года назад +19

    I have love-hate relationship with Sayl.
    The seatpan has a very weird shape, so you posterior is kind of hanging off it and is sandwiched between the plastic backrest and the seatpan which is not comfortable at all.
    This chair has no vertical position. The default position is reclined around 15-20 degrees. I looks like it's S-curved, but in reality the curve is so low, that you basically always seat recline and that causes neck strain. If you want to seat kind of upright, you have to use forward tilt. The problem is that this places armrests and seatpan in a very awkward position, reminds me of riding a motorcycle with clip-ons.
    The tiltlimiter is there, but the spring in this chair even at the lowest setting is so strong that the seat won't recline even to the first "tilt-lock" position if you weight 63 KG or less (neither me, not my girlfriend can put it to tiltlock position with just body weight, we have to flex leg muscles to do that). I have to put couple of ankle weights to the backrest to make it work more or less properly.
    I have no idea how HM designed this chair, but it does not follow the curvature of human spine and does not let you seat in an upright position without slouching.
    I always find myself slouching in this chair and trying to find comfortable position instead of working. I try to give it a chance everyday, but end up switching back to either ikea work chair or a regular chair.
    Anyone buy it from me? I am in Portugal.

      Yeah dude. Disagree with your post. Either you were sitting on a lemon or it doesn't exist. The one I tried in store provided full support from my entire back, plus had the comfiest seating (had a more firm support vs. The Aeron and Mirra2).
      So keep that in mind folks. Try it yourself.
      p.s. no slouching - you're so well supported you wouldn't need to!!

      @@yuribillones5094 He's right about the spring in the chair being so strong that it's hard to recline tho. I've had the problem in the showroom too and i'm 5'1 and quite lightweight. It's the only downside for me about the chair, but enough of a downside that makes me not wanna spend that much money on it.
      I'd get an Aeron A instead, but there the seat depth is way too long proportionally, it hits my legs. Idk wtf HM were thinking.

    With the 12 year guarantee the amount of value you get out of this is probably better then an ikea or staples chair which will bairly last 5 years. Embody, Aeron and Cosm are expensive and there you definitely pay a premium for the extras you get but saying the Sayl is overpriced is borderline stupid for what you get

      The whole point is that the chair lasts for 10-12 years. Meanwhile the cheaper racing chairs will not last as long, so you'll go through more chairs paying the same amount or even more. But while the HM chair also lasts longer it's also made by people who know something about ergonomics. Although the actual seat comfort should be tested before you fully commit to it.

      It's a well build piece of furniture and designed to last, the value over time is appropriate. I work a physical job, and when I get home and game it's the most relaxing and comfortable chair I've owned. An investment for sure, but several months later I've no regrets.

      The build quality of HM chairs are superb, this one is no exception. Another reason why they dare to slap a 12 year warranty on them. Because of that, the price is well justified. It is also more comfortable vs the gaming chairs I've sat on (this statement is subjective, as the feel of a chair, especially the seat, varies too much from person to person).
