I love this, an unknown entity, the tadpole, a devil... whats next? What is it with our characters thats so important for so many groups? This story became quickly so nuch more than just "oh no! Mindflayers!"
The interesting part is, that you get the illithid power from your dream person but seems to be opposed to the tadpole. Maybe the mindflayers are the good guys after all :D that would be a hell of a twist.
Not good, but perhaps the lesser evil. Unfortunately, the information available is limited in early access, and nobody can provide definitive answers until the full game is out. But your right, the plot is very interesting.
The illithid don't want to give you any powers. They want to eat your brain, merge with your corpse, and then go on to enslave the rest of the multiverse. Whoever is responsible for tampering with the ceramorphosis process has really pissed them off.
The interesting thing about Mindflayers is that they do think themselves as good, and their goal to turn everyone into Mindflayers is to make the universe unified by removing the barrier between different races and entities. Of course to us they are bad and their ethics are debatable. However in a narrative sense, any group that has a singleminded (pardon the pun) goal may inadvertently become allies if that goal happens to align with the protagonist’s objectives.
@@gianghuynh9570 But they aren't turning people into mind flayers. They're killing them and then assimilating themselves with the host's now very brainless corpse. @@gianghuynh9570 this is an interesting thought. I have to think of the TAU in 40k. Although not via a physical assimilation they try to create single objektive collective. Trough means that are not always so bright when you look at the inside.

I think it's an aspect of the lore they're writing. The druids note the tadpole is a part of the drows who fight for the absolute in the druid grove, for Instance. It's likely that the tadpoles are either altered in some way to make them obedient subjects to the absolute, who or whatever that is, or that it's a part of a larger scheme. They seem to work more like communication tools than conversion tools, as they're otherwise intended for. My bet is they're under magical influence of whoever leads the absolute's forces, and that they now function as overglorified headsets to gradually influence and inform actors across the world
@@nils191 Ya, though I wonder since the person in a pod on the mindflayer ship could still be turned at a push of a button, to what degree are the mindflayers being used. That gives me reason to think there is still some risk of being turned in the future. Though maybe it's less dependent on our use of the power and more on when the next phase of their plan goes into motion.
@@jbshbsskskhbs6713 I got a very simple explanation for this. Keep in mind, Mindflayer ships transport themselves through dimensions, when you first land near the starting location the ship is teleported from the initial area to a new one, probably an entirely new dimension. Essentially, their Nautiloid, ships, jumping from world to world to gather slaves and procreate. It's likely the intro location is outside the realm of the absolute's control. Another explanation is that the pod the woman is in likely forces the evolution, bypassing the natural process of Ceremorphosis.
Figured we could become a proper 'True Soul' as according to the Fextralife Wiki for the game, the 'Noble' background has an inspiration for becoming one. I find that amusing considering how people talk about the current companions being mostly evil and yet the only one who is fine with constantly using the tadpole is Astarion whom of course has the 'Noble' background. Just figured out a plan to try and do a run where hold off on party recruitment until becoming a 'True Soul' apart from maybe Astarion whom as noted above is fine with it. Probably Shadowheart will hit my camp before I get all the long rests completed too. I imagine Lae'zel won't be recruitable as she'll have bust her way out of the cage and gone on her merry way but be interesting to see what happens with Wyll and Gale.

Yes, that is what I based the name on. Great movie Managed to try out my idea, Lae'zel broke out as figured she would. Shadowheart didn't actually appear until got the cut-scene involving the Absolute when entering the Goblin Camp, when Shadowheart intervenes with the artefact. Broke the 'Rescue Sazza' quest as I had already gone through the initial checkpoints she assists with and when got to Minthara, after Sazza had said her thing, Minthara just skipped to the "Yes you are a True Soul" and then the bit where asks you to infiltrate the grove without me saying anything. After agreeing, she left and Sazza was stood there and when interacting was of the opinion I needed to talk to Minthara. Interestingly during scene with Minthara at the evil party the 'Illithid [Wisdom]' tag was back. Also when I recruited Gale, despite having neutral approval, the next 2 long rests had his 'I have a condition' scene and then the 'weave' scene as if I'd moved through the approval ratings when I hadn't. I was a little disappointed that the evil party minthara romance scene (moreover the final part of it) didn't change, she still says Absolute wants us dead. Would've expected her to just get Minthara to point us in the right direction to meet her, also the 'Illithid [Wisdom]' marker was there rather than [True Soul].
