Smudging is when you use an incense so that the ghost will temporarly lose interest in you/ becomes blind (Aka, it ignores you for a period of time before trying to kill you again)

laments trick you by becoming quiet at the end of a hunt to let players think that the hunt is over when its not, so by example if youre looping it or getting it stuck and u see that the lights stopped flickering and u cant hear any footsteps/heartbeat but the ghost is still there, then its lament.
I have a tip. When you want to find out if it's lament try to bait hunt or have one of your friend inside of the house then wait for it to hunt and use the spirit box to know, basically turn on the spirit box (wait) and if it stops glitching try to open the door, if the door didn't open when it's not glitching anymore abt 1-11 seconds I think, then it's a *lament!*

Laments are quiet at the end of a hunt so if it's glitched/stuck in front of you and if u dont hear it's footsteps , it's a lament
U can also check the front door of the Map ( if it's closed or not and if Ur not in the building xD )
