This movie is an absolute classic. I love the whole Stargate universe, I used to watch it with my brother after school when i was young. So much nostalgia.

It's a fantastic archetype and I'm here for it. On another note, Richard Kind and Erick Avari are prolific character actors that it are always nice to see.

Every time I see this movie, I'm always thrown by how close to James Spader's performance Michael Shanks gets in the show. It's startling every time. Loved the reaction, would love to see y'all get into the shows; they truly are some of the best science fiction television ever made. I'm an absolutely massive Stargate fan, so was really glad you did this reaction. I'd love to see you react to all the TV show spin-offs, especially as Calvin's such a big fan too.
One thing I LOVED about this movie is that it actually paid attention to language differences between cultures like that. It's so, SO often glossed over in fiction where the main character just automatically knows the language and culture of the new setting they're in. Everyone just will magically speak the same as them.
In the series, they had no time for this. Rarely the aliens spoke alien, because of the time constraints. Can't spend 10 minutes to learn the alien cultures language all the time. Even in Atlantis, a completely different galaxy. Universe did it right, but they didn't exactly encounter humans in their short run.
Don't forget Universe. I actually liked Universe. Just because some people didn't like it because it was different from the other one's, doesn't mean the show was bad.
The movie leaves you wanting answers and more, so now naturally we must override the polls and force stargate reactions to begin! I've watched all seasons of all the shows more times than I can count.
I'm only at 21:30 so don't know if it gets mentioned later on but I'd love the guys to watch at least SG1. Its a long show but its one of the best mid/late 90s and early 00s Sci fi shows out there. They don't make them like they used to nowadays
"Those guys" are Jaffa. Ra is the only Goa'uld in the movie. Assuming we're using SG1 terminology. The movie predates all of that worldbuilding, so the parasitic alien is intended to look more like a stereotypical Grey / Asgard than the spinal cord snakes we'd later see.
@@Xerkrosis Is that mentioned somewhere in the show? The stargate wiki describes Ra has using a handful of Jaffa on Abydos, but I suppose the author of that part of the article might be mistaken.
actually that looks like what happened :> He took over the body of an asgard, but due to their unique physiology he was rejected, and that's why he needed the human host.
Well this was unexpected, but highly appreciated. Stargate is my all time favorite scifi series, and I'd love if you guys started on the shows, though it would take a loooong time to get through (like, 6+ years at one ep a week). Not that I would complain about that.
36:43 “They’re lucky they didn’t have like a....an army!” Hoo, boy, that would be bad. Could you guys _imagine_ what would happen if other members of Ra’s species had millions of these guys at their disposal, all with those crazy stick weapons and those flying plane things? That would be so bad.
Yeah I mean, the contrast with the others? When he's supposed to be much more powerful. Ra was basically on vacation lol Went on vacation with a few friends and got a nuclear bomb blow up in his face lmao
Really hope they react to the Stargate series and soon, since even with watching SG-1 seasons 8-10 and Atlantis seasons 1-3 at the same time it would take like 5+ years.
I think the reason it holds up, and it was enjoyable... is because it was very simple. It didn't complicate the story, it was relatively lean and quick to get through the necessary beats.
My word, Wyatt Russell really is the spitting image of his father, except his face is more finely boned from the input of his mother's beautiful features.
Thanks Guys for do this reaction, this is the begining of the great journey from the galaxy. SG1 is full of knowlege about ancestral culture and I love the show. I hope you can continue. Thanks again
This is one of the first movies other than Star Wars I vividly remember growing up with. I echo everyone else's sentiment that we hope you do at least Stargate SG1 tv show. Well worth your time!
I was not expecting this! I’m kinda hoping that they’ll start reacting to SG-1, but I can understand if they don’t since it’s a 10 season long show, which is a huge endeavor. It would take just over 4 years to just watch SG-1. But I would love it if they did. It’s a fantastic show that deserves more recognition
I got so freaking excited when this popped up in my recommendations! Stargate (the movie and all of the series [besides Infinity]) was integral to making me who I am today. Only The X-Files had as much as an impact. Everyone in this comment section, you are my people, and I love all of y'all!!!
In the show they change the symbiote a bit but the rest is the same, and Ra is retconned into being one of many System Lords whom appropriated Earth gods to keep the primative humans they enslaved in line.
I watched this, fell in love then found the series. I followed stargate sg1 in my teens for the entire run of the show and then proceeded to rewatch it over the decade since. It is my most favorite sci-fi series of all time. O’Neill, Teal’c, Sam, Daniel & General Hammond will forever be a part of my childhood.
Probably the best Rolan Emmerich movie after Independance Day...It's kinda goofy, but so satisfaying with nice design ! When it starts a franchise, you know you have something good ! I'm with the people in the comments, Stargate SG1, Atlantis and Universe would be amazing reactions to do ! It's getting forgetten like Babylon 5 and it got great storylines...Also Richard Dean Anderson is just so much fun !
After my dad and I finished watching this movie we talked about it for like an hour and we both said it had to be made into a show. There was show much possibility. When the show came out it was everything we wanted and couldn't ask for more.
Hope you guys start the Stargate series. I can also see the “Highlander” series being something you’d enjoy, especially with all of the sword fighting.
I don't have time to watch the reaction yet (insert very sad emoji) but oh I am so happy about this. (And do I wish they'd one day react to Stargate SG1? Yes. Yes I definitely do. The cast made that show and it has its ups and downs... but what a ride. god that show means the world to me)
On the question of why the Egyptians keep the "gods" after the rebellion, well, just because you rebel does not mean you stop believing they were gods. After all, rebellion or not - the aliens had amazing power.
Am I dreaming? Are you going head on for the full Stargate experience? I hope so and wit or it for at least 4 years. You have seen abou .5% of the entire SG lore, brace for a HUGE ride.
You guys may not know this but Independence Day was supposed to have been the sequel to Stargate. But the studio didn't want to do that I think so they turned it into a new movie.
Them: "They need an astronomer, not an Egyptologist." Me: "SSAAAAAAMMMM!" Especially with all your questions, SG-1 reactions when? 😁 You won't get to meet Richard Dean Anderson's version of O'Neill without it 🙂
I saw this when it first came out. Most of my friends thought it was pretty fun. We were a little surprised when they turned it into a TV show, because it didn't seem *that* great. However, they wound up making some pretty good choices when they adapted the idea for television. The U.S. Air Force *loved* this movie, and they also loved the television show. They worked with the production team, and even permitted filming of the outside of Cheyenne Mountain, outside of Colorado Springs. :) And, yes, the USAF does have special ops teams, usually charged with recovering sensitive technology (or even nuclear weapons) from aircraft that have gone down in hostile territory. The clay tablets used by the various Mesopotamian empires would use reeds with nibs to impress writing strokes into clay tablets. They'd then let the tablets dry, and that would preserve the writing, for quite some time. However, the way the clay tablets got *baked* was mostly accidentally. The places where they'd store the tablets would catch fire and burn down, and that would bake the clay. They didn't deliberately bake the tablets, very often. It's just that they wrote so much, stuff would inevitably get caught in fires. The first Highlander movie is awesome. The rest are trash. The TV show was actually pretty good, but had a really, *really* low budget. Fun reaction. :)
My D&D group experimented with playing the SG-1 RPG. It didn't work out too well because if you're playing a military unit, you follow your leader's orders which doesn't leave much room for creative play, especially if your leader sucks at their job.

Stargate is my most favorite tv show of all time 😭 Atlantis is near and dear to my heart
The movie leaves you wanting answers and more, so now naturally we must override the polls and force stargate reactions to begin!
I've watched all seasons of all the shows more times than I can count.
Does this mean there's a chance for Stargate SG-1 reaction down the line? I sure hope so.
I'm only at 21:30 so don't know if it gets mentioned later on but I'd love the guys to watch at least SG1. Its a long show but its one of the best mid/late 90s and early 00s Sci fi shows out there. They don't make them like they used to nowadays
really hope they go on to watch SG1 soon, too :D
THEY"RE DOING STARGATE!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO
I am a HUGE star wars nerd but Stargate is my all time favorite franchise.
Yall will not regret this!!!
"Man, I wanna see one of those guys (the Goa'uld) get lit up with a gun."
Don't worry, that's what the show is for
"Those guys" are Jaffa. Ra is the only Goa'uld in the movie. Assuming we're using SG1 terminology. The movie predates all of that worldbuilding, so the parasitic alien is intended to look more like a stereotypical Grey / Asgard than the spinal cord snakes we'd later see.
@@Reedstilt Ra had no Jaffa.
@@Xerkrosis Is that mentioned somewhere in the show? The stargate wiki describes Ra has using a handful of Jaffa on Abydos, but I suppose the author of that part of the article might be mistaken.
@@Reedstilt I wonder if it could be explaind that ra took over a asgard, and why he looked like a grey heh.
actually that looks like what happened :> He took over the body of an asgard, but due to their unique physiology he was rejected, and that's why he needed the human host.
I am so happy that you guys watched this. Please do SG-1 and Atlantis. It's great sci fi tv. So good!
Well this was unexpected, but highly appreciated. Stargate is my all time favorite scifi series, and I'd love if you guys started on the shows, though it would take a loooong time to get through (like, 6+ years at one ep a week). Not that I would complain about that.
Good, now react to the entire Stargate franchise.
My reaction to this comment Is the same reaction as tealc when jack tries to steal his ice cream
Glad to see they enjoyed the movie overall. This is one from my youth I remember seeing when it came out, and I think it holds up decently even now.
I think the reason it holds up, and it was enjoyable... is because it was very simple. It didn't complicate the story, it was relatively lean and quick to get through the necessary beats.
I just love Eric recognising Harry and instantly going into 'Radio' mode.
Me too! "Third Rock from the Sun" was a gem!
My word, Wyatt Russell really is the spitting image of his father, except his face is more finely boned from the input of his mother's beautiful features.
The moment his face showed up I was stunned! What a strong resemblance.
Well now I desperately want them to start watching SG-1. Didn't know how bad I needed that until now.
Was not expecting this holy crap. I’m going through SG1 atm. Currently on S3 and I love it, hope you guys do too
Thanks Guys for do this reaction, this is the begining of the great journey from the galaxy. SG1 is full of knowlege about ancestral culture and I love the show. I hope you can continue. Thanks again
SG-1 YESSS PLEASE!!!
This is one of the first movies other than Star Wars I vividly remember growing up with. I echo everyone else's sentiment that we hope you do at least Stargate SG1 tv show. Well worth your time!
Star Wars, Trek and Gate were big parts of my childhood. I call "Star Trinity".
god i would love them to do a sg1 reaction
Oooooo addicted to this as a young man please consider watching the series
Omg I didn't expect this at all!!!! YES STARGATE PLS WATCH SG-1 and Atlantis too!! WOOHOOOOO
51:28 - And there's two SG1 movies/feature length episodes called "Continuum" and "Ark of Truth".
I grew up with Stargate, I even came into 3D thanks to it.
Oh and btw that outro is telling me that we will have SG-1 😁
Fk yeah! Stargate! Hope they react to all the series. I know it will take forever, but so worth it.
Damn that music! So epic!! Though it may just be the hundreds of hours of stargate tv shows I’ve watched :)
I now want to see a movie about *a bear traveling to another planet fighting aliens.*
And coming back after it's evolved. Sign me up as well!
Yes! Finally! Now do SG1! Blind Wave _kree!_ 😄
Pls Tell me that the reactions to SG-1 and Atlantis are coming. Please!!!
I really, really, really hope you react to SG-1 at some point. It would be a long commitment, but I think you'd love it.
Does this mean we are getting Stargate reactions?! Because I am SO on board with that!
I got so freaking excited when this popped up in my recommendations! Stargate (the movie and all of the series [besides Infinity]) was integral to making me who I am today. Only The X-Files had as much as an impact. Everyone in this comment section, you are my people, and I love all of y'all!!!
I think the TV show did an AMAZING job taking a one and done movie and tinkering with the setting to extend the concept.
"It turns off halfway"
You joke, but that happened in the SG-1 show lol.
You guys would love SG-1 it's an amazing show with really captivating stories
Please let this mean you're gonna start Stargate SG-1!
Eric your a few seasons early for Anubis 🤣
I was hoping Calvin would say no this is where it began when Aaron was asking it’s over this is when it ends
Hope you guys start the Stargate series. I can also see the “Highlander” series being something you’d enjoy, especially with all of the sword fighting.
Calvin I have faith that you will get them to do SG-1!
Stargate is a looooooong (but very amazing) journey.
Still 1000 times better to any Marvel movie.
You need to start watching the series! it would be amazing to see you react to stargate to fill the hole that doctor who left!
I don't have time to watch the reaction yet (insert very sad emoji) but oh I am so happy about this.
(And do I wish they'd one day react to Stargate SG1? Yes. Yes I definitely do. The cast made that show and it has its ups and downs... but what a ride. god that show means the world to me)
I really hope/ wish they continue with the Stargate shows! They are my favorite franchise overall 😊👍
Them: "They need an astronomer, not an Egyptologist."
Me: "SSAAAAAAMMMM!"
Especially with all your questions, SG-1 reactions when? 😁 You won't get to meet Richard Dean Anderson's version of O'Neill without it 🙂
Richard Dean O'Neill is a must. Why do I feel like they'll love him?
@@lzz9376 Because EVERYONE loves him, and if they don't, they're wrong 😂
@@IceMetalPunk You know what, I knew there was a decent reason lying around here somewhere 😜😂
Blind Wave: no mention of intent to start reacting to SG-1
Me: JAFFA, KREE!!!
SG1 was my gateway to sci-fi. That's a phenomenal show and I would love to see you guys watching all of it. Bring some classics to your list guys!
If blind wave doesn't do this series I will be THREE FRIES SHORT OF A HAPPY MEAL WAAAAACCCCKKKKKKOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, yes, the USAF does have special ops teams, usually charged with recovering sensitive technology (or even nuclear weapons) from aircraft that have gone down in hostile territory.
