Crazy how economically she’s not doing that great of a job, her coalition is kind of the usual right-wing Italian joke, socially Italy is taking step backs on rights, and internationally her anti-migration policies have only created more headaches (e.g.: Tunisia) - and yet, she’s still desired just because of power games. She has accomplished an image of power and strength and, most importantly, stability, which often lacks in Italian governments. Also, at least she’s doing something about the migration crisis, instead of sweeping it under the rug like so many others.
@@r-pu4mdumh what is she doing to tackle immigration exactly? During 2023 we saw the highest number of arrivals since 2016 and her pact with Tunisia burned down literally 2 weeks after it was signed. They are center-right to right. Just because ECR and ID are right to far right on their policies doesn't mean more EPP as a more moderate right-wing group is somehow centrist. Renew Europe is the centrist group (even when they are obviously pro-business neoliberals), S&D is center-left, etc.
They are definitely center-right (though the parties within vary a lot from center to right-wing). Always have been. The growth of the far-right doesn't change that.
@Purjo92 @herman65 - And that is where you have a problem, calling actual center-right to right-wing groups far-right. Meloni wil never join the EPP. What is possible, however, is an EPP-ECR de facto coalition, with ID and the right of Renew Europe backing it. The only real obstacle to this was the AFD, as the CDU/CSU and their allies refused working with them under any circumstances. Even if the FPÖ were to not back such a coalition, they would still likely have the numbers for it to work.

Remember when Meloni won the elections in Italy? Two days later this channel was saying that Italy was finished, talking about domestic and foreign disasters, and the Spanish were sure to overtake Italy and take its place. This was not the case, Meloni has done more in 20 months than the centre left has done in 12 years.
The RN of Le Pen isn't fond of Meloni who has become too pro-EU for their taste. Also if an alliance occurred the RN would have more MEPs in the group than Meloni's party, so the RN would be the leader, Meloni isn't likely to want that instead of leading her own group. Also the ECR are more involved in Brussels' game, they actually work, whereas ID are against the EU even if they dare not talk about leaving it, so they barely attend parliament and do as little as possible.

Stability, in the last 30 years there have been many governments that have had a short life of about 1 and a half years. Unemployment is at its lowest since 2007 and employment is at an all-time high, real wages have grown more than inflation (wages in Italy have been stagnant since 1990), exports have increased, debt/GDP has decreased, GDP has increased more of France, Germany and the United Kingdom in recent years and in the G7, Italy, after the USA, has been the strongest and most dynamic economy compared to pre-Covid. Because such a coalition would be too large, covering too large portions of left-right spectrum.
With proportional representation there is little pressure to form "big tent" parties. It is usually better to have smaller, more focused parties.
@@jirivegner3711 sure.. don't unite guys, it's gonna be bad for you! it's best if you stay divided and fight against one another so that we can pull off our radical leftist tricks and smoke you. that way even if you win and the people vote for you and support your ideas and policies, you still don't get to achieve anything or even pick a leader that represents you.
just like that trump looking guy from i think the netherlands or whatever it was. elected by the people on strong european values and mandate to shut down the border and deport all the illegals back to where they came from, but then of course sneaky leftists come in and put together their dirty little dishonest schemes and block him from becoming president. so now even though the people elected a strong leader, they end up with some weak limp-wristed leftist that will just continue all of the policies that they voted against. great job.. yep, don't unite guys, trust me it's bad for you, us democrats are just looking out for your best interests here! hah!
Because the EPP is a center-right block, while both the ECR and ID groups contain a lot of far-right parties that are impossible to work together with. Many of those parties are trying to dismantle the EU because they hate it. They are very nationalist and some of them even support Putin.
If you got two diametrically opposed parties in a coalition, you'll literally get nothing done. Just look at Germany. FDP and the Greens are basically arch enemies, yet they're in a coalition. And now nothing gets done. Some wild, hair-brained schemes get approved, which a normally-functioning government would never do. E.g. pension reform, the building of the hydrogen infrastructure, etc.

Otherwise it's going to end up like America.

Meloni is a true leader, unashamedly a patriot that stands for Italy.
Awesome.
I think part of it is due her image.
Name me a better performing italian government in the last 30 years...
Are you talking about the deal with Albania to open immigration centres there perhaps? Because even those are the usual populist BS which will cost a lot and do nothing to actually make the situation better since they will hold a minuscule number of migrants that will have to be reallocated to Italy after 30 days.
I'm really shocked to see how the situation has developed under her gov even though she really loved to shout how easy the solution was during the electoral campaign.

Marion Marechal is emerging as the bright new star of the right wing. Her endorsement by Meloni truly marks her 'adoubement' as a pivotal figure in the movement.
isn't Marion the niece of Marine Le Pen?
last time I heard Marion isn't close to her aunt and instead did support Eric Zeemour during the last French election in 2022, I believe.
but not because there is bad blood between them or something. Eric Zeemour already gave his support to Marine Le Pen after the first phase of French election was over and it was clear Marine Le Pen would be the right-wing candidate for president.
I don't follow French police that much, tbh.
@@LevisH21 Yeah her niece, she left RN because their ideas are becoming too socialist and mainstream (antiracist), so Marion Maréchal joined Eric Zemmour, and she is now leading the party Reconquête in the European Elections. They are credited for 6% and RN for 30%. However, they are part of ECR which is bigger than ID. And Marion is gifted and has a bright future. My bet is that her aunt is afraid of her future success and wants to destroy Reconquête
There is nothing right leaning about the EPP, they are center at best.
Those so called "center-right" parties in the EPP are pro-lgbt, pro-immigration; pro-abortion. It is ridiculous how people call these parties that hold obvious leftist views "center-right".

(maybe shes just right wing, and we can stop calling annyone that mentions identity and immigration a fascist)
The AFD is not part of ECR or even ID

The ECR is not "far right" please stop calling them that. They are right wing but not far right
It is frightening that the conservative group would want a post fascist party in their coalition. A party that still think of Mussolinis Italy as "nostalgic". I would like to know if the European parties would be this cordial to a neofascist german party that wants to restore their past . lol
