I was 16 when I got braces, which is probably a little older than the average patient. I got a retainer was 15, but instead of wearing it for the recommended 3-6 months, I wore it for about 7-8 months because I kept taking it in and out of my mouth with my tongue and the wire kept breaking. I got braces during my sophomore year of high school, and got them off during my senior year. In fact, I'm wearing braces for some of my senior pictures.
