    After having memorised the entire rules of darts and just being here to check, this video explains the rules very well, and gets bonus points for not calling the bullseye a 'double bull'. If I had to explain the rules to anyone, anywhere, this video would be perfect.

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  4 года назад +8

      Thanks. And yes, a lot of people have tried to 'correct' me by saying that it's a 'double bull', but that's strictly not officially true.

      This was explained well but I think these rules are kinda stupid... I’d rather play and win by hitting the bullseye, or near it as many times as you can. Hitting a bullseye 3 times should be a good thing

    • @evansphenomenal
      @evansphenomenal 2 года назад +1

      @@becarefulwhatyoufish4764 I don't think it's stupid. If you want to hit bull almost all the time I suggest playing soft tip darts, however you'd still need to use maths to finish.

    I have some extra things for you:
    Bust: when you go over your 501 e.g if you have D1 (2) leftand you accidently hit 20 you go back to 2. Also if you hit single 1 then you also bust.
    Yorkshire Darts: the same game except without any trebles and there's also no 25 ring.
    5s Darts: a dartboard that has only 5,10,15 and 20 segments. The segments are much larger but the throwing distance is 9 ft.
    A dart cannot exceed the length of 12 inches and the weight must not exceed 50g.
    I can also remember one or two occasions where a set isn't played to the best of 5 legs. I can remember that the World Masters is best of 3 legs for a set. That tournament still goes on to this day and it started in 1974.

    What happens if you're playing 501 and you've scored 500? Instant loss?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  5 лет назад +4

      No, you basically don't score for that throw, and have to start from there.
      For example, you require 16 (which is double 8). you hit double 16 (which is 32) instead. You've gone way over and your throw is over.
      On your next attempt, you have to go for 16 (double 8) again. And hopefully you won't go over this time.

  • @brucecunningham2944
    @brucecunningham2944 6 лет назад +1

    Several questions, 1. If a player finishes a leg, do both players start a new leg with 501 or is the losing player required to finish their current leg. 2 When a dart falls out it no longer scores, correct? So when you showed the 1 dart knocking out the other 2, I was confused on the scoring. Were you meaning the dart(s) that were knocked out no longer scored but the one that stuck did, the one that stuck didnt but the knocked out ones did, or neither the sticking dart or the knocked out dart scored? 3. Is there a time limit similar to a shot clock in basketball? where you have a set time limit one you approach the Oche to throw our darts? And if so does the time reset for each dart or is it cumulative?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  6 лет назад +2

      Excellent questions!
      1) If a player finishes a leg legally, then a new leg begins immediately and both players start from 501 again.
      2) Correct. If a dart bounces out, it scores nothing. If you hit a dart out, the dart that sticks counts. The dart that falls out does not.
      3) Officially there is no time limit. This results in players intentionally speeding up or slowing down their throw to put off their opponent. But you can be warned or disqualified for refusing to throw.
      Hope that helps?

      Thank you, This makes sense now. I really want to learn more traditional pub & bar games. I know American 8 & 9 Ball Pool, Shut the Box (which I play at home), shuffleboard and I know some card games. I have played 301 and for the most part know enough to play recreationally, but along with Snooker, English Pool, Dominos, Devil Among the Tailors, American 10 ball and Straight Pool and others, Darts is one I would really enjoy learning more about. Since my previous comment I have viewed and enjoyed several of your EXPLAINED videos. I hope to find or see in the near future some of the other games I have listed. American 10 is one I really am having a hard time finding stuff on that is for a complete novice. I also plan to watch your self help videos. Do you have one on self promotion? I am a freelance Graphic Designer, but I really have no budget for advertising. The clients I have gotten from Craigslist love my work, but they are few and far between its so competitive. Anyway, Happy New Year, You have a new subscriber in me, great job and I lok forward to more of your quality videos!

      Awesome, thanks Bruce!
      Pub games are pretty awesome. They're considered to be actual seriously professional sports here in the UK.
      As for self-help videos, I don't have one on self-promotion. but I know exactly what your predicament is being a self-employed graphic designer myself. The key is to be almost shameless in your promotion. Literally everywhere and everyone. Because remember - no-one hires a graphic designer that they don't know about.
      Good luck bro!

    I've never seen a televised game before that uses the double start rule and I didn't even know it existed, do you know of any major tournaments that use this rule??

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  7 лет назад +2

      The World Grand Prix in Dublin is an example where the double start is used. The clip I showed shows Phil Taylor missing 9 consecutive doubles. Scored zero. Ouch.

    • @epicrandomperson1998
      @epicrandomperson1998 7 лет назад +1

      Wow haha, I shall have to give it a watch later in the year. It usually takes me at least 20 darts at the end just to finish on a double.

    Something I'm unsure of that the video didn't touch on is what happens if you don't end on a double? What happens if you need 2 to go out (so a double 1), and hit the single/double/triple 20 on accident?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  6 лет назад +5

      Ah yes, that's called 'bust' and your throw is invalid and it's the end of your turn. I forgot to put that in. Sorry!

    I'm watching this during the corona virus quarantine because this is one of the few sports that I can wager on. I always want to somewhat understand something before I wager on it. For today, I"m wagering on the "PDC Home tour." My bet? Dave Chisnall vrs Jan Dekker. I took Dave Chisnall -1.5 (-160). So, I'm rationally concluding that for the final score, Dave C. has to win by at least 2 set/legs in order for me to win this bet. IF Dave Chisnall wins by 1 or loses outright, I lose my bet...

    • @Hmongboi228

    Great video! Thank you so much for the information. One doubt though; what if a player has to score just 2 points to finish. Instead of hitting double 1, if he hits more points like 20 or 18, then are these points ignored or he loses the round?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  7 лет назад +4

      Basically yeah. If you score more than you need, it's known as 'bust' and your turn is over (because you've gone over). It's then your opponents turn. Going bust is a nightmare and can easily lose you games. Hope that helps?

    • @harshadnemade
      @harshadnemade 7 лет назад +1

      another thing, if you go down to exactly 1 point, that's also a bust, as there's no way to score 1 point on a double, and so is going down to exactly 0 NOT on a double

    I've a question: What happens when a player is missing 2 to win, but instead of hitting double 1, he accidently, hits the 20?

    • @NinhLyUK
      @NinhLyUK  6 лет назад +3

      Ah yes, I forgot to mention. Should you go over - this is known as 'bust' and it's the end of your turn.
      Your throw is disqualified and it's now your opponents turn.
      If/when it's your turn again, you try and go for the same thing as before.
      Does that help?

    A question to the public and Ninh ly (if you know any)
    Who is your favouraite darts player?
    Another question: Should darts be in the Olympics?

    • @joshuabullion1429
      @joshuabullion1429 5 лет назад

      My favouraite player is really hard to choose cos I know loads.
      It has to be the man who started it all, he launched the World Championships back in '78 and was a star player BEFORE the world championship started.
      The first ever BDO World Champion in 1978, The Marathon Man, LEIGHTON REES!

    • @NinhLyUK

      I traditionally liked Eric Bristow - but even though Darts fits all the requirements of an Olympic sport, the warring governing bodies of darts would never agree.
