All of the "no one cares" ... "it's not a big deal" ... "such a drama queen" comments have a real "but officer, what do you mean speeding isn't allowed in a school zone? I didn't hit anyone... Don't the kids know how to get out of the way?" vibe to them. Just becuase a disaster didn't happen, doesn't justify irresponsible and dangerous behavior (talking about the follow up, not just forgetting the video to begin with...). Not to mention the safety video is exponentially more important on flights to/from/within developing countries since a larger proportion of passangers will be new fliers. Anyway, carry on. Don't want to get in the way of some good ol' trolling on a Friday morning.
Everyone can make mistakes , but like you said it’s their response or reaction which is the sickening part. Well done on posting the facts , like you always do❤
As a former cabin crew, when the safety video doesnt play, crew are supposed to do a manual demonstration. There are manual demo kits onboard for this purpose and it’s part of our annual safety refresher. We are also supposed to check and ensure that all screens are working when the safety video is playing. In the event that its only 1 screen that isnt working, in economy class we direct the passenger to look at the screen beside. In business/first where there r individual seats, we do a guided demo at the seat using the safety card and manual kit. Every passenger needs to be briefed on the safety procedures, it’s a non-compromise.
Was recently on a JL flight and the monitor on the bulkhead suddenly stopped working as the safety video began. A member of crew noticed it within seconds- a few seconds after that she had a manual demo kit in her hands and performed the briefing just for my neighbor and me. It’s attentiveness like I had on that flight and like you describe that keeps planes safe!
Ten years ago, I took a transatlantic flight from ORD to LHR on British Airways. A passenger had a medical emergency during taxi while the safety video was playing, so we returned to the gate. The passenger and three family members were taken off the aircraft. Then, they boarded a single standby passenger into the vacant seats. Once we pushed back, they announced that they would replay the safety video from the beginning so the newly-boarded passenger could be brought up to speed.
@@JAW242 Germany is being governed by Americans who are not German. German politicians speak German and pretend to be German but they are destroying the country - this is what we Germans observe and feel and have to tolerate.
I used to be a Lufthansa purser, and I can assure that Lufthansa always emphasized safety. We had regular trainings, and we had to pass tests. The Lufthansa pilots are chosen very carefully and so are the crew members. Pilots have to pass so many really difficult tests before they can start their training as a pilot. Safety is considered extremely important by Lufthansa and by all employees. I can hardly believe what you experienced. That is really not Lufthansa policy. All Lufthansa employees also feel that safety is the most important thing and part of their job. I really don't know what to say. However airline crews also learn that accidents or problems always happen because their is a chain of mistakes. If one looks at any airline accident or crash, most of the time there was a number of small mistakes made, or unattentiveness. I can also say from my own experience as a purser that on short distant flights there are so many frequent travellers, and most of them are so bored with safety demonstrations which was done by crew members themselves. They continue talking and reading during the demonstration and don't even look. So we did get the feeling, that our demonstration is not considered important. This does not mean that we didn't do it with dedication. Kevin, I love watching your videos, and you are really sweet in your love for details. You see everything, you notice everything, and you always remain polite in everything you say, but still you do say what needs to be said. Thank you for all your work. I think that your video will have consequences in the sense of emphasizing the importance of the safety video on flights.
Can't really tell you how much I appreciate this. After a barrage of insane comments over the past 48, I'm thankful that you are gracious enough to see both sides and that I wasn't trying to sensationalize things for the sake of clicks. I just don't want it to happen again and a video is the most effective way I can potentially make that happen. Thank you for sharing your insight!
@@tfft Just to add my two cents: I was a flight attendant for LH for 6.5 years, and can only confirm what the ex-purser has said. Kevin, you are 100% right in your points, and an incident like this, if reported to the captain, usually leads to a de-briefung for the entire crew. There are systems to back up the systems, and somehow, none of them worked, or worse, were intentionally disregarded,
Impressed how you narrated and edited this video, especially concerning the very important safety lapse (and lack of response) being addressed here. It shows your level of professionalism and integrity. Hopefully this video will get the attention it deserves and action will be taken. Thank you for taking the time to highlight this in such a thorough way 🙏🏼 Oh….and the filthy state of the Queen is absolutely as shocking as their disregard for safety! 🤯🤬
Thank you very much for that- as for the cleanliness… YES! On board honestly I didn’t fully notice how dusty the backsplash in the bathroom was. But looking at it on video, can you imagine how many days/weeks/months that surface has been splattered from dirty hands but never cleaned for that much dust to accumulate?! Absolutely nuts.
None of the crew noticed that the safety video was not played.... That is the precise point and you caught that and other safety, cleanliness and crew responsibility lapses were to the point. I'm impressed with the objectivity, consciousness, presentation and intent of the video but not surprised as I'm following you for a few months. This video is a testament to your exceptional reviewing skills, setting you apart as one of the finest reviewers on the internet.
This type of video is what sets your channel from other travel channels. You tell us the good and bad on every video. You are HONEST with the viewer. Great video and great job.👏
18:46 "Honestly, when do you think decompressions happen, at the gate?" This captures it better than anything. Completely agree with your concern about this lapse Kevin, as well as your analysis that it isn't so much that the incident occurred, but that they were so nonchalant about it and not a single crew member realised the mistake. That is what makes it worrying.
Kevin, you're the best! You had a completely horrible response to their completely inexcusable mistake yet you still give an incredibly unbiased review. You're one of a kind!
WOW, where to start. I'm a retired US airline pilot. I cannot believe how poor of a reaction and action Lufthansa crew gave. I have flown with them many times. In fact in March I flew from FRA to Denver in Biz class on a 340. While an old product, the crew were great. I too am very distressed that they didn't show the video, but worse, they didn't seem to care or notice. Then they don't seem to understand that bad things can happen in the middle of the flight?! Is that a lack of training, or they don't give a damn?! I am shocked by this crews inactions. I'm so glad you shared it. It'll be intersting to see if and when LH responds to you officially more than that form email. I have subscribed to your channel as a result. This popped into my suggested videos on YT. Safe travels
It truly was like being on the twilight zone watching their response. If and when LH does respond further it’ll be added to the pinned comment here as I always do in situation like this. Thanks very much 🙏🏻
The concern about this is really "is there no checklist?".. I feel you.. I mean some mistakes are allowed to happen but not in the safety parts!! Or at least aknowledge them and reaasure the crew and passengers that EVERYTHING else is perfect!
The two pursers on board is really what stung me the most. I know I ‘watch’ out for the video bc I film it on every flight. But you’d think the purser would be at least as aware about it as the avgeek pax!
That is wild tbh. There are checklists upon checklists. Airliner safety culture and practice is taught in other industries as model example of a High Reliability Organization (HRO) which I guess was pertinent until the Boeing shenanigans that came to light with the Max incidents and everything else since.
Given what happened at the beginning of the yearRe Japan Airlines and the passengers following the crews instruction, the importance of the safety video and crew instruction such as exits and life jacket cannot be under stated. And the reaction of crew was even more shocking.
The main takeaway for me from this “incident” is that an entire 747 crew had not at some point brought this to the attention of someone or each other , shows a total disregard for the importance of safety . Take off and landing are indeed the most important part of a flight but so is an explosive or gradual decompression inflight. I hope the civil aviation authority does indeed see this as I’m sure the crew didn’t self report .Disappointing ….. and that aircraft needed a deep clean as it was just plain dirty !!! Great video as always Kevin
Haha thanks for that. Germany simply has a lot of privacy laws I’m not (or wasn’t at the time) familiar with. Had to bend my brain a bit to ensure I used gender neutral pronouns through out the video haha.
As a Senator member for 9 consecutive years, a agree that Lufthansa service has worsened a lot in business class: quality of food and wines and frequent delays cleaning of aircraft!!! Formal Complains doesn’t work!!
If Lufthansa really had a policy of "non-passengers" watching their safety videos, then I wouldn't get any results when I searched RUclips for "lufthansa safety video". Agree that this may seem like a small isolated incident, but the systemic issues it raises, by itself and in the crew's reaction, is noteworthy to say the least.
Good review/public service announcement. 'Nothing could happen.' Like a window blowing-out - or a door? Shocking. Anyways, some time ago, my aircraft from Nice had to do a go-around at Heathrow - engage after-burners, gear up, reach for the skies, spill the champagne in Club Europe kinda stuff. Why? Because the cabin-crew hadn't finished clearing the cabin for landing. The captain, the 'pilot-monitoring', 'fessed-up, saying that he hadn't warned the cabin-crew in time and his incomplete-checklist meant 'go around'. Credit to British Airways for doing something that this crew probably wouldn't have. I liked the look of that food. P.S. How I detest that Condor boiled-sweets-inspired livery.
Well thank you for another great video. Lufthansa failure to reply to you is very telling. Just booked multiple flights for this year and next. Deliberately avoided disgusting Lufthansa. Keep up the good work please.
I recently used Lufthansa Business Class and made content about it, too! I think the hard products are almost the same, but mine was not in good condition. As usual, great video! 🎉
You have a very methodical approach to the review process. This gives us confidence that your reviews are balanced and fair. You were right not to score this review, how can you score a bad safety issue? How would one have scored a panel falling off a Boeing? Is the score in proportion to the number of passengers who died, and if none did, it is all ok? Thanks for your good and consistent efforts!
The issue here for me isn’t that they forgot to show it. The issue is there is no checklist in place to mark that task completed. Flying safely is in the main all about following process and procedures to reduce human error. The captain is told just prior to take off the cabin is secure, which includes the safety video presented to passengers. I personally always watch the demonstration if not just to see where the exits are located if the aircraft ends up in darkness or inverted. I hope airlines watch this as a sign to change process and ensure less failures in general
Exactly. "The cabin is secure" implies everything has been checked- I'm not sure, but I'd imagine that notificaiton to the cockpit is a 'legal document' of sorts.
Kevin really good video. I'm sorry to hear that your flight on Lufthansa 747-400 was not so great. Now September 2024 My wife and I flew Lufthansa 747-400 from YYZ to FRA Business class then on our return 2 weeks later we were Premium Economy both were excellent for what their class offered. Our flight was very clean, bath rooms clean and the service especially in business was 5* Premium 4*. So we would definitely fly Lufthansa again. Hopefully your situation was a one off. Happy flying Kevin turn that sad face around and make it a smile be happy.
Thanks for posting another great trip report Kevin! You were absolutely right to point out health and safety issues. Also I find the lack of cleanliness of the cabin unacceptable!
Nice video! I thought for sure when you mentioned the Purser sat next to you it was going to be along the lines of: Werden wir ein Problem haben, Herr Kevin? Are we going to have a problem Herr Kevin😏😂 The excuse or reasoning just made no sense? Achtung, baby! Cheers,🥂
Flew SQ earlier in the year and the screen was temporarily not working. FA adamantly insisted I get my ass up and go into another seat to watch it and then I can return. I was annoyed since I have watched it many many times. Didn't occur to me at the time it was a safety issue. You are right and definitely a poorly train crew. Glad the purser corrected the mistake however late, albeit passive aggressively instead of digging a deeper hole for themselves.
Similar thing happened on a recent JL flight for me. Bulkhead screen was working but then stopped when the video started. Within seconds a FA noticed and just after seconds more she whipped out a manual demo kit and did the full demonstration for me and the guy next to me. Truly impressive, especially looking back on it now.
Oh trust me, you were not the only one that noticed that safety video wasn’t shown, that’s just not cool… good for you for saying something, I would’ve 😊
As a person living in Germany, my rule for many years has been to avoid Lufthansa at any cost, if possible. In my case, I didn't have any security or safety incidents, but I had a lot of issues with their service, mainly around check-in and everything before boarding the plane...
Same here , mostly try to avoid them ,last Time they wanted to charge me 29 EUR just for changing the Seat ! they became Nightmare Airline , but never had a Safety Issue with them , tho
I’ve been flying LH for many years (simply as I live in Germany) and I have never seen this before. There has always been a safety video so this must be a rare mistake! What a strange incident. I’m mostly satisfied with LH despite their outdated seats but your experience is NOT ok. Sorry for that…
I'd be scared for my life the moment the crew said "nothing can happen now." It suggests a lack of awareness and preparedness in the event that something DOES happen
I frequently fly a small regional carrier, each time when the flight attendant does the safety presentation, I am often angered that many talk through it. There may be someone on board who has never flown before and the presentation IS important. Hopefully non of us will ever need it but it is there for a reason. Great video as always and very professional in how you stated everything. I am truly shocked that such a well known carrier could have such a gaffe as this. Thank you for sharing
I'm sure some people would be offended by this, but after the response I got to this video (i.e. mixed), it has me wondering if it's just a developed world thing. As in, many travelers from the developed world cannot fathom how or why this would be a big problem. Where as those who are from/lived in/or traveled through extensively the developed world see day in and out exactly why it's critical to be shown- there are brand new fliers on every flight I'm on. Just food for thought.
Even if well travelled, plane models differ and so are the emergency responses required. If I had taken this flight it would have been the first ever 747-400 flight I would have taken in decades. Not even kidding: my last 744 flight was on a SQ "Megatop" back in the 2000s.
Agreed. Lapses like these can make a marginal-yet-significant difference if an incident were to occur. I personally don’t fly that often and almost always need a refresher on the brace positions and on how to operate the life vests. Also I’m not sure if you did or didn’t, but you should’ve voice recorded the conversations you had with the crew, to serve as extra evidence.
Germany is a two person consent country. Recording someone without permission can get you three years in jail, publishing said recording is a further offense. So, yeah... that's why I was very clear in the video that my recollection was based on my notes, not recordings. I love my job but I'm not going to jail for someone else's mistake lol
@@tfftAh, my bad. Here in Victoria, Australia, we’re a one-party consent state so I’d assumed that Germany would’ve been progressive in that regard as well.
Wow.. i am amazed by both the concerning mistake of the flight crew and how perfectly detailed and composed you discribed everything. Problems aside, great video Kevin!
Important video. Your feedback and comments are accurate and the agencies need to see this because not showing the safety video and the crew's response are both dangerous and cavalier.
Kevin, thank you for this video! I can't believe how cavalier the flight staff was. I'm very much enjoying your video and binge-watching your flight reviews! We are flying United/Star Alliance to New Zealand, back from Sydney from IAD in March of 2026 and I'm working on gathering points because I'd LOVE to fly at least Premium Coach, if not Business. Do you have any suggestions for making this happen?
More than happy to help with tips, but out of respect to those who pay me on Patreon for this kind of advice, I need to limit the answer to there. My $20 level is just for advice like this. Thanks for watching 🩴
I was in business class on a Lufthansa 747-400 last month from Frankfurt to Vancouver. Filthy cabin, like yours. Toilets that didn't flush; IFE not operating; no Wi-Fi; power points loose and unreliable; and really bad food. An airline apparently in decline.
Good video. I'm a little leery of RUclipsrs who constantly go down the OMG its a crisis...this is horrible for clicks route(Non Stop Dan?) You did a great job of communicating a legitimate concern and you are absolutely right. The biggest issue I have with this is that it shows a culture of either A) complacency or B) fear of intimidation of questioning your superiors. Both are equally bad. No you don't wont a longtime employee to loose there job over something like this but it should be a wake up call. You would think everyone in the aviation industry would be walking on eggshells about safety and thoroughness with the current (very justified) scrutiny Boeing is going through. Thanks for great content, keep up the good work.
I completely agree and can’t stand channels that are full of click bait videos. Funny how many people see one dramatic video which they don’t agree with on this channel and think I’ve instantly gone to the dark side 😂
I was expecting something more dramatic (in retrospect, I don't really know what I was expecting, to be honest) but you are absolutely right when you say that such an oversight makes one wonder what else could have been overseen! The state of the cabin was absolutely shameful and, as one of your subscribers who voted for a Lufthansa video in one of your recent polls, I apologize for putting you through this and I thank you, as always, for your outstanding work! One question, if I may: where do you find information such as the names of the seats in each cabin? I'm very curious to know how I can learn the names of the cabin types I really like and if I can know what cabin I should expect from an airline at the time of booking! Thanks again, you're the man!
Simply google something along the lines of, "EVA 787 business class seat manufacturer" and you'll find it somewhere in the results. There are a few airlines that design in house, but that's mostly limited to SQ, EY, EK and QR.
@@tfft Thank you!! I realize it's annoying to have to tell people to try googling something but your knowledge about these things is so extensive and your presentation style really makes you sound like you consistently find detailed specs of everything so I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to pick your brain! My apologies and thanks again for all your work, your videos are wayyyyy ahead of other channels! Take care 🖖
As someone who is a nervous flyer (but I fly anyway), I actually listen and feel comforted by the safety videos. I like being prepared. Not seeing it would make me very concerned during the ENTIRE flight. I wouldn't fly an airline that made this major mistake.
Thank you very much for this very important video . Snd you are right - safely is y the most important thing in a flight . Keep doing the good job - thank you again
Rules & procedures are there for a reason - especially when it comes to safety. Baffling as to how the crew reacted - disasters tend to happen from the little things that add up to a big thing. Thanks for the info + video!
Hi Kevin am from the airlines industry and still active in aviation. We have been trained to uphold “the safety above all” You did what you have to do honestly and honorably. Not to show the safety VDO could have happened however the reaction of the crew and their purser were terrible the pilot in command should be involved in the process.
Well done you, Kevin, for highlighting and publishing this vid. You know...I wonder if in any of your 105k subs there is anyone from LH management who watched this and found it as disturbing as all of us do...? Good work.
As a quite frequent traveller, I thank you immensely for the amount of time and effort you took in raising this, both onboard and afterwards with this extremely well considered and well presented video. It is an extremely serious matter, and you seem to have conducted yourself both politely but seriously at all points. The eventual (I think 3rd?) cabin crew interaction was encouraging, but the initial lapse incomprehensible and the first TWO follow-ups highly inadequate. I’m not sure what the tone of voice was in the more eventual and “taking it seriously” interaction, but I would like to imagine that the “informing the Captain” mention was that he needed to be made aware of the incident (he/she is of course responsible for everything on the aircraft in the end) as opposed to anything directly related to you. Perhaps even that the Captain would be needing to file an incident report about the safety briefing not being shown when it should have been, and how the crew became aware of it (e.g. 81A noted to crew that safety video was not presented, and we then presented it). The email reply later is pathetic. More along the lines of what l’d expect if the two First Class passengers wrote in to say they had been looking forward to a delightful private space with an individual red rose, Caviar and LPGS Champagne and ended up in a dirty old 747-400 with a downgrade. I hope they were at least aware that under EU regulations they were entitled to a 75% refund of their entire fare paid (not just some fare difference), which lessens the sting of the last minute downgrade (but has nothing to do with the unsafe handling by crew of what is really a major safety lapse). Sorry for the long winded comment, but just to say again that I’m immensely impressed both with how you managed this onboard, how you managed your video about, and I’m thankful for people like you who travel and pay attention to such things. I myself struggle to figure out how to deal with much smaller issues I encounter in the travel industry, and find a demeanor like yours DOES make a difference. I commend you on not scoring the flight, but I score your handling of it both during and after as a 21/20
A couple of months ago, I flew Egypt Air, and they had all the lights on in the cabin and quite a few passengers with the seats reclined during takeoff (at night). The flight attendants walked in the aisle before takeoff as normal, but didn't ask anyone to make their seats upright.
Shock, horror. Kevin not wearing flip flops🤣🤣. Shocking experience regarding the safety but upto your usual "pull no punches" stlye which is what I love about your reviews. Don't ever change please. Thanks for bringing this video to us 🙃🙂❤
Hm... Would you still react this way, if you had a family member flying on THIS flight for the first time... and that the safety video wasn't played... but they encounter an incident that requires evacuation before/during takeoff, and they wouldn't know how to/be unable to evacuate properly, leading to the loss of their lives?
Kevin, I had this exact thing happen to me on a LH flight to CPT. At about the same moment as in your video I wondered: wait, did I miss the video? But no, and it was never shown. I should've said something but contrary to you I didn't feel in the position to do so. Next time it happens I'll surely say something. Thanks for the video!
My thought process is always “there are other people on this flight- perhaps passengers- who would need to perform duties during an emergency which would affect my ability to get off the plane… so I definitely want to make sure everyone has the chance to learn what to do…” Thanks for watching 🩴
Absolutely. And it's not just because somebody might benefit from it because some people are visual or some people are more auditory with their focus and memory retention, but you also have to consider multiple cultures are on that plane and multiple levels of experience flying are on that plane. These things are important and I agree with you 1,000%@@tfft
That is truly shocking. I just got back from a trip on another airline that has IFE but still does manual safety demos. How does one miss that?! I would have probably done what you did. Thank you for bringing it to light. The fallout from this may determine whether or not I ever have an interlined flight with LH.
I was on a JAL flight some months ago and I was at the bulkhead. The monitor was working but then stopped working as soon as the safety video began. I noticed it and 3 seconds later so did the crew. Out of no where she pulled a manual briefing kit and did the demo just for me and the guy sitting next to me. Now that is how it should be done. That's a crew I want.
I have seen what you experienced with quite a few crews from Lufthansa. As long as you are quiet, everything‘s fine. But as soon as you ask for something special or even criticize them, they get immediately defensive because they are simply perfect. You just have to accept the fact that there is no criticism of a Lufthansa crew.
Kevin, a new subscriber here. Is there a video of your background beginnings before becoming a full-time RUclipsr? I assume this is your main source of income. I would be super stressed out with constant travel, worrying I won't arrive on time. The good thing is that nowadays, family members can track my overseas flights easily, but still. Thank you for bringing up the safety video concern. I'm not sure what I would've done if this were to happen on my flight. I make it a habit to always pay attention to the safety video, then look around for emergency exits and life jackets on my seat. Safe travels buddy!
No, my history is just sort of dotted throughout all of my past videos lol. When I'm on intense trips, everyday is a travel day which actually makes things easier. Just repeating the same process everyday lol- that said, I couldn't live without my Flighty app.
As for the safety video not being shown in the first place, I understand that mistakes happen. I cannot believe that not one member of the cabin crew noticed, so I rather suggest that most noticed but chose not to bring it up with the head purser. Perhaps they didn’t want to cause trouble or risk repercussions by pointing out the oversight. This points to a really dangerous safety culture where people are afraid to speak up to their superiors. There have been many aviation accidents where a significant contributing factor is a “power imbalance” where for example a junior first officer is not comfortable to question the actions of a senior captain, or if they do, they are flippantly dismissed. The response you got for rightfully raising your concerns was disgraceful, and makes me wonder if there is a lack of Human Factors training at the root of the problem here. Well done on a very thoughtfully and carefully put together video!
I took a flight on Iberia last October from MAD-JFK. The flight was about 30 mins their so I guess everyone was trying to get the flight out as quickly as possible. The last customers were coming on board when I heard the boarding complete announcement. Passengers were still making their way to their seat from the front of the aircraft to the back. Overhead bins were still opened, and I was in the process of swapping seats when i noticed the aircraft was pushing back. Literally, about 2 min after we were pushed back from the gate, announcement was made for the flight attendants to take their seat for take off. They were using the runway very close to the terminal. The flight attendants barely had time to get to their jumpseat since they were securing the cabin. The safety video was shown well after 10,000 feet.
Without trivialising the issue I did expect something a bit more than that but you are right even though most of us skip over the video it is an important part of the flight if at the very least it covers the airlines responsibility to the passengers. Starting to rethink your previous career of working in hospitality and now I think you may have had a career in health and safety!
As a former stewardess (53 years ago) I am truly shocked at the crew's cavalier attitude! Having traveled to 48 states and 10 countries I always watch the safety presentation, look for the two nearest exits, and determine, should an emergency happen, my immediate subsequent actions. After reading the book Survivors Club a person IMO is foolish to be so unaware of their surroundings. You did an amazing, fair, non-sensationalized job of reporting. Thank you.
I wouldn't call the crew incompetent, but you are 100% correct. Had something similar happen on an Aswan to Cairo flight, except they actually tried to show the video, the system crapped out, and they were forced to do a manual presentation, but by the time they got around to it we were taking off...literally taking off. They did get the travel prayer done though. But when I was flying as a pilot, to tell you how serious this is, we had a way shorter than normal taxi and we were late because a passenger had to be kicked off the flight or escorted off, I forget the reason, but our taxi, instead of being 10 minutes was 2. We were about to take off when the flight attendants called up and yelled at us not to take off because they forgot to do the briefing. Fortunately, we had the runway to ourselves for a while, and they were able to do the whole briefing without us leaving the runway and getting into the back of the line. My guess is, that these FA's do this so many times that when things are forgotten, it turns into a "someone else will say something" sort of thing if they even notice at all. They were probably either reserve crew or had come in from another base so were fatigued and stressed. But they are very lucky. That happened in the US, and an FAA inspector was on board, they would have allowed them to get up to cruise and then could have had them return back to the airport and had them all taken off of the plane...if they wanted to, especially with the way they fought you.
I flew business class with this kind of plane last July 2023 from Singapore to Frankfurt. My personal opinion is ''I am not a fan'' because of the lack of privacy and lack of storage for my stuff, even Premium Economy in SQ is better than this business class. My first business class experience was Q suite on Qatar Airways, and I guess it was kind of mistake because I set the bar too high so for me personally nothing compares to Q suite of QR.
you can't compare a pre eco with the lie flat business class seat. And LH in the upper deck has massive storage cause of the bins at the window. in the 747-8. It's great to fly in the upper deck. As I am approaching HON status I know LH from many flight. What the tfft writes here is not nearly the norm. Cabin crew does a really good job.
@@jans.4309 sorry if you don't agree with my opinion, I was sitting on the upper deck on my last fly with LH, yes there is plenty of storage bin by the window, unfortunately it is only for the passenger sitting by the window, well at least in my case he occupied all of it for himself, I ended up have very limited space for myself, and when you reclined fully then the person by the window wanted to go to the isle then you have to give a way. My point is if I have to spend a lot of money to sit in business class, I want privacy, space and comfort.❤🙏
The safety demo issue reminded me of a flight from back in 2002 when I flew AA from DFW-SJD (evening flight) and we remember the crew turning on the cabin lights about 45 mins before arrival into SJD and doing the safety demo right then an there saying federal law required them to. I think they either forgot or didn't do it before we left. This was on an MD-80. I vaguely remember someone was taken off the flight and we have to swap plans or there way a gate / plane swap when we left DFW. All of that might have contributed to them forgetting the demo.
Yeah, if they forgot but then caught the mistake (or at least didn’t make ignorant excuses after I brought it up) and showed the video straight away, it would have still been a safety violation, but from my perspective would have been a non issue.
I was on a 747 last year in July… Frankfurt to Delhi. It seemed to struggle to ascend for some reason, something not felt in Lufthansa’s A380 from Frankfurt to Houston.
Check lists are very standard in the aviation industry and I would be surprised if they didn't have one. Some accountability might be with the captain as it's their responsibility overall. As a private pilot we are required to brief even in a Cesna 152 with 1 passenger. I also frequent charter flights in small aircraft to regional Australia and have never not received a briefing.
I've never flown Lufthansa, but yours and other reviews I have seen leave me with the distinct impression it is the United Air Lines of Europe, only with bigger airplanes.
There definitely are checklists at Lufthansa, these mostly just concern pre-boarding checks though. The only explanation I can find for the crew not mentioning their mistake is that they were afraid of repercussions by the Purser, since strict (and strictly enforced) hirachies are still common place for most jobs in Germany.
@@tfft yeah, you're totally right. I've never felt extremely safe on any LH Group airlines tbh, Brussels Airlines is the worst, I just take them if they're the cheapest but from broken seatbelts that dont fully lock or can be pulled open, to seatbacks that dont stay upright when leaned against, there's nothing I havent experience with them.
Given how long its taken to introduce the allegros seats, I’m sure the new seats will feature holographic FAs to do the safety demo when the IFE is booted.
Great video. Talking about aircraft safety I would welcome some feedback on what I witnessed on an Emirates flight some years ago in business class, that appears to be standard practice (at least at the time). Cannot recall the aircraft type, but that is irrelevant. In preparing to serve breakfast a few hours before landing, the crew assembled several fold out trolleys in the forward galley that were jammed up against both the forward doors (and of course emergency exits). From memory it was two trolleys on both the port and starboard sides. These were then stacked with pre-prepared meals for distribution during breakfast. It did occur to me at the time that should there be a mid-flight emergency that these exits would be rendered inaccessible. Interesting considering how pedantic most airlines are (and quite rightly so) on keeping emergency exits clear at all times. Is this practice still the case? Interested to know if anyone else has witnessed this or similar.
In my experience I've generally seen the carts lined up perpendicular to the doors- looking back now, perhaps to keep free access to the doors. I do wonder if there's a policy about it though- that for example, it is alright as you desceibed as long as the door opening mechanism is clear from obstruciton.
I suggest you to grade it in "U", Kelvin, which stands for "Unclassified", "Ungraded", or "Unsafe". That category is dedicated for those airlines, cruises or hotels that violate the basic safety regulations or service standards.
Thanks Kevin for an important review. Ignoring flight safety in an old dirty plane, complacency shown by the flight crew/staff, these are warning signs that any airline company should be aware of and remind them it is time to re-train the people currently working (since they are forgeting the basic) or let them go and hire new people that are eager to learn !
I totally accept your complaint / legitimate concern about the safety video and I won’t comment on that further. My comment is to address the dirty / filthy aircraft. I flew my first flight on Thai business class on a 777 to Delhi from Bangkok. The aircraft was not at an airbridge. We were stuffed into buses and driven seemingly many kilometres to what appeared to be a graveyard of aircraft with some missing engines etc. But there was our 777 was waiting. It was filthy. The seats were in terrible condition. I was absolutely astounded. My next flight was Thai 777 Katmandu to Bangkok some weeks later. Dreading it, to my surprise it was immaculate and superb. I have since flown on Thai countless times and never experienced anything like the flight to New Delhi. My conclusion - flights to India don’t get much priority in the cleanliness or other departments.
To be fair, the thick layer of dust in this plane's bathroom has been there for weeks. So, I'd amend your comment to also include New York, since that's where the plane was just before our flight lol.
Good heavens, what a breach of safety and trust! Hope they managed to find time for other key responsibilities. Well done Kevin. The crew clearly needs to brush up on the Swiss cheese accident causation model.
I’d rank the Star Alliance carriers I’ve flown with (in a mixture of classes over the years) from top to bottom: Singapore, NZL, Lufthansa, Air China, Swiss, United. That was a very bad mistake from the crew but overall I’ve found Lufthansa to be very professional, so it is most surprising. As to their response, it’s fairly typical isn’t it? Safe travels and looking forward to your next review.
This time last month I flew Baku to Frankfurt with LH. I was surprised to note the aircraft push back before everyone was seated. One or two were still up and not seated and secure.
You’re right to be concerned. Either showing a safety briefing (or doing it manually) is important or it isn’t. An airline can’t have it both ways. From LH, an airline I’d always associated with adherence to safety procedure and technical quality, it’s shocking.
Oh my, disqualified and this is a so-called 5 star airline! 😂 I think at the end of the year or overall, all of your past scoring should be put together like a league table and ranked accordingly so that everyone can compare between the best and the worst. That will be much better than the Skytrax rankings that don't tell us anything
Regarding the cleanliness which was also a point in your video, I can say that Germany is one of the most expensive countries in the world and companies have to compete with other companies who have to pay much less for salaries and taxes etc.; in Germany, in order to compete with ticket prices of other airlines, everything has to be done in a rush. The result is that everything loses quality. We experience that in so many ways. German houses used to be really solid and great. Now, everything is done in a rush, and there are really bad results because of that. As a former purser I witnessed how the cleanser had to rush through the planes. They do their best, and they work so hard, but they have a limited time within which they have to clean the whole plane. This is also the case, when a plane is not used immediately and moved to a parking position. The limited (and paid) time for the cleaning team reamains the same. This is something which has become a big problem in Germany on all levels. The work just can't be done well under such pressure. It is not the mistake of the cleaners. They always were so friendly and calm when I was a purser. Great people.
Very good to know- and yeah, I'd never put the blame directly on cleaning crew. I think the layer of dust in the bathroom is testament to what you said. That backsplash clearly hasn't been wiped in weeks which I think clearly attributes the problem to cost cutting and/or being cheap with cleaning expenses in general, not a lazy or ineffective cleaning team.
You have to wonder if having two pursers on board (ie one assuming the other was looking after it … hence, no one accountable) had something to do with it, but as you say, one of them mist have been in charge. 23:01 Someone’s been watching Dennis Bunnik 😂
Well done on posting the facts , like you always do❤
I'd by over the frigging moon if they'd just skip the video and get me a pre-takeoff can of icy cold Warsteiner. It's wunderbar!
lol the crybabies in chat, they just love to defend their favorite airline even when the airlines in the wrong
Defending the airline I was prepared for. Defending not showing the safety video bc it’s ’a waste of time’ caught me off guard haha 😅
Why would they admit they forgot rather than blame it on a technical issue and say it will be played in 5 minutes.?
It is an understatement that this was a problem. Thanks for pointing it out and making this video.
@wist - correct. Thank you for confirming what I thought was the case.
And that is how it should be done. Make things so safe that people are bored of being safe lol- that's a crew that understood the job.
Talk about a case of " Familiarity breeds contempt "….
crazy to think that of all people, a German airline failed to "follow the rules" , that's the most un-German thing to do
Haha yes, agreed
well germans have a tendency not to follow the rules plenty of times. Can give you plenty of examples
How German is Germany at this point though?
"German efficiency" has become more and more a tired cliche.
Appreciate that! At the end of the day, there was still a (flight) story to tell!
This type of video is what sets your channel from other travel channels. You tell us the good and bad on every video. You are HONEST with the viewer. Great video and great job.👏
Appreciate that very much. Without the balance, the credibility flies out the cockpit window!
18:46 "Honestly, when do you think decompressions happen, at the gate?"
This captures it better than anything. Completely agree with your concern about this lapse Kevin, as well as your analysis that it isn't so much that the incident occurred, but that they were so nonchalant about it and not a single crew member realised the mistake. That is what makes it worrying.
Appreciate that!
definitely "ive fucked up and been caught doing it" approach from the purser
Haha yes this.
Kevin, you're the best! You had a completely horrible response to their completely inexcusable mistake yet you still give an incredibly unbiased review. You're one of a kind!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
WOW, where to start.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
You are right. They are probably understaffed and over worked.. not an excuse just a possible explanation.
THIS! Yes, exactly.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Just imagine it's your first flight, that information IT IS IMPORTANT, you did it allright, loved narration!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Kevin lawyering up before presenting a video had me all ears. Another fascinating video. Many thanks.
Haha thanks for that.
Germany simply has a lot of privacy laws I’m not (or wasn’t at the time) familiar with. Had to bend my brain a bit to ensure I used gender neutral pronouns through out the video haha.
i completely agree with the way you reacted and how concerned you were. especially cause you pointed it out to them.
Appreciate that!
6:16 what a beautiful shot you captured of the queen coming into the gate…‼️👀👍👌🫶😍😇❤️🙏
Thanks for watching 🩴
As a Senator member for 9 consecutive years, a agree that Lufthansa service has worsened a lot in business class: quality of food and wines and frequent delays cleaning of aircraft!!!
Formal Complains doesn’t work!!
Thanks for sharing ✈️
If Lufthansa really had a policy of "non-passengers" watching their safety videos, then I wouldn't get any results when I searched RUclips for "lufthansa safety video". Agree that this may seem like a small isolated incident, but the systemic issues it raises, by itself and in the crew's reaction, is noteworthy to say the least.
Yea I also searched for their safety video haha
Haha, I actually hate it so much that I've come around to like it 😅
Well thank you for another great video. Lufthansa failure to reply to you is very telling. Just booked multiple flights for this year and next. Deliberately avoided disgusting Lufthansa. Keep up the good work please.
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
FINALLY ONE AV RUclips WHO DON‘T HYPE LUFTHANSA🙏🏻
I only hype when hype is due lol
I recently used Lufthansa Business Class and made content about it, too! I think the hard products are almost the same, but mine was not in good condition. As usual, great video! 🎉
You have a very methodical approach to the review process. This gives us confidence that your reviews are balanced and fair. You were right not to score this review, how can you score a bad safety issue? How would one have scored a panel falling off a Boeing? Is the score in proportion to the number of passengers who died, and if none did, it is all ok? Thanks for your good and consistent efforts!
Appreciate that!
Agreed!
Nice video! I thought for sure when you mentioned the Purser sat next to you it was going to be along the lines of:
Werden wir ein Problem haben, Herr Kevin?
Are we going to have a problem Herr Kevin😏😂
The excuse or reasoning just made no sense? Achtung, baby!
Cheers,🥂
Haha I could definitely have imagined that happening.
Oh my!! I CANNOT BELIEVE A PREMIER AIRLINE LIKE LUFTHANSA CAN MAKE SUCH A MISTAKE! Thanks Kevin for showing this. Appreciate your hard work man.
Thanks for watching 🩴
Oh trust me, you were not the only one that noticed that safety video wasn’t shown, that’s just not cool… good for you for saying something, I would’ve 😊
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Unless you are a celebrity or a well-known avgeek vlogger Thne they will take notice of anyone who has a broad audience of followers.
As a person living in Germany, my rule for many years has been to avoid Lufthansa at any cost, if possible. In my case, I didn't have any security or safety incidents, but I had a lot of issues with their service, mainly around check-in and everything before boarding the plane...
From the source! I will say that I do still enjoy LX though.
Same here , mostly try to avoid them ,last Time they wanted to charge me 29 EUR just for changing the Seat ! they became Nightmare Airline , but never had a Safety Issue with them , tho
Your loss.
I’ve been flying LH for many years (simply as I live in Germany) and I have never seen this before. There has always been a safety video so this must be a rare mistake!
What a strange incident. I’m mostly satisfied with LH despite their outdated seats but your experience is NOT ok. Sorry for that…
Thanks for sharing ✈️
Safety video prior to takeoff is a big must!!!
Sure is!
Reminds me when I flew in biz, same airline and plane 747-400 and we had like 3 hours delay as well they played the video of the Airbus A330-300!
I'd be scared for my life the moment the crew said "nothing can happen now." It suggests a lack of awareness and preparedness in the event that something DOES happen
Agree- and it also presumes they think the passanger is as dumb as a brick.
@RK-bx1by yah, I’d hoped for it as well and actually searched about it online in between the Flight Attendant and Purser interaction 😅
Wow.. i am amazed by both the concerning mistake of the flight crew and how perfectly detailed and composed you discribed everything.
Problems aside, great video Kevin!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Excellent video 📹 I liked the term footsie class 😊. Really looking forward to your next video. 😊
Thanks for watching 🩴
Important video. Your feedback and comments are accurate and the agencies need to see this because not showing the safety video and the crew's response are both dangerous and cavalier.
Agreed!

I was in business class on a Lufthansa 747-400 last month from Frankfurt to Vancouver. Filthy cabin, like yours. Toilets that didn't flush; IFE not operating; no Wi-Fi; power points loose and unreliable; and really bad food. An airline apparently in decline.
Yah what is it about loose powerpoints. It's as if there's only one (crappy) manufacturer of them on earth lol
Yup, it is a comfort and necessity that shouldn't be diminished!
Nicely shot and well detailed flight review. Hope Lufthansa takes care of the safety concern as soon as possible.
Thanks for watching 🩴
@@tfft Always a pleasure watching your content. Could you also try air India a350 also?
Thank you very much for this very important video . Snd you are right - safely is y the most important thing in a flight . Keep doing the good job - thank you again
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Rules & procedures are there for a reason - especially when it comes to safety. Baffling as to how the crew reacted - disasters tend to happen from the little things that add up to a big thing. Thanks for the info + video!

Hi Kevin am from the airlines industry and still active in aviation.
We have been trained to uphold “the safety above all”
You did what you have to do honestly and honorably.
Good work.
Not sure if they're from LH but the many former and current crew that have commented on the video surely see how serious it was! Thanks for watching 🩴
Omg. Shocking specially on LH. Thanks Kevin
Thanks for watching 🩴
Should there be any real follow-up from Lufthansa (which I don’t expect), please let us know. As usual, a thorough, non-biased review. Thank you.
Yes, in the rare cases where airlines or hotels reach out, I document it in a pinned comment on the video.
I commend you on not scoring the flight, but I score your handling of it both during and after as a 21/20
Maybe actually a 100/20, given that you handled the same initial situation at least FIVE times with what I’d consider perfection 😂
Thanks very much for that, appreciate the time taken for this comment.
A couple of months ago, I flew Egypt Air, and they had all the lights on in the cabin and quite a few passengers with the seats reclined during takeoff (at night). The flight attendants walked in the aisle before takeoff as normal, but didn't ask anyone to make their seats upright.
Thanks for sharing ✈️
Shock, horror. Kevin not wearing flip flops🤣🤣. Shocking experience regarding the safety but upto your usual "pull no punches" stlye which is what I love about your reviews. Don't ever change please. Thanks for bringing this video to us 🙃🙂❤
Appreciate that!
You've blown this out of proportion Kevin.
Calling out a crew that doesn’t prioritize (or frankly, understand) safety on board is hardly blowing it out of proportion.
Totally agree with you Kevin, 100%. Seems very lacklustre and laid back, the state that aircraft is very disappointing, stay safe 😃👍
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Was literally just watching this when the SIA mid flight turbulence incident news broke.
Ooof! 😢
That was a doozy for sure.
That's a crew I want.
truly unbelievable, and the follow up....just wow
Wow is right.
An unfortunate mentality.
Thanks for watching 🩴
That's nuts. All I can say is, I'm glad at least they noticed it needed to be shown lol
Well, any good restaurant is a health and safety op at it's core haha
Thanks for sharing ✈️
Will be interesting to see how the airline reacts and/or reaches out to you now that the video is online.
Oh I'm very doubtful that'll happen lol
I flew business class with this kind of plane last July 2023 from Singapore to Frankfurt. My personal opinion is ''I am not a fan'' because of the lack of privacy and lack of storage for my stuff, even Premium Economy in SQ is better than this business class. My first business class experience was Q suite on Qatar Airways, and I guess it was kind of mistake because I set the bar too high so for me personally nothing compares to Q suite of QR.
Yeah, hard to start out with one of the best seats lol
you can't compare a pre eco with the lie flat business class seat.
Is that the cockpit with all the instrument stuff , I thought the door was always supposed to be locked ?
To be fair, there could be pilots in there off to the sides. I didn’t know for sure.
I was on a 747 last year in July… Frankfurt to Delhi. It seemed to struggle to ascend for some reason, something not felt in Lufthansa’s A380 from Frankfurt to Houston.
Thanks for sharing ✈️
Check lists are very standard in the aviation industry and I would be surprised if they didn't have one. Some accountability might be with the captain as it's their responsibility overall.
As a private pilot we are required to brief even in a Cesna 152 with 1 passenger.
I also frequent charter flights in small aircraft to regional Australia and have never not received a briefing.
Thanks very much for sharing that!
I've never flown Lufthansa, but yours and other reviews I have seen leave me with the distinct impression it is the United Air Lines of Europe, only with bigger airplanes.
Sounds about right lol
There definitely are checklists at Lufthansa, these mostly just concern pre-boarding checks though. The only explanation I can find for the crew not mentioning their mistake is that they were afraid of repercussions by the Purser, since strict (and strictly enforced) hirachies are still common place for most jobs in Germany.
I can understand that, but considering there were two pursers on board, that in particular surprised me that it wasn't noticed.
Thank You ✈️

Given how long its taken to introduce the allegros seats, I’m sure the new seats will feature holographic FAs to do the safety demo when the IFE is booted.
Given the new pricing structure of the Allegris seats, perhaps you'll need to pay extra if you want a safety demo haha.
Potato, potato lol
Thanks Kevin for an important review. Ignoring flight safety in an old dirty plane, complacency shown by the flight crew/staff, these are warning signs that any airline company should be aware of and remind them it is time to re-train the people currently working (since they are forgeting the basic) or let them go and hire new people that are eager to learn !
Thanks for watching 🩴 (and understanding the point of the video lol)
So, I'd amend your comment to also include New York, since that's where the plane was just before our flight lol.
kudos for saying that, for spilling
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Good heavens, what a breach of safety and trust! Hope they managed to find time for other key responsibilities. Well done Kevin. The crew clearly needs to brush up on the Swiss cheese accident causation model.
Yes! You’d think having 2 pursers on board (let alone many other crew) would have been plenty of ‘slices’ to catch it.
The response to the email? Unfortunately yes. The response on board though honeslty is what shocked me- and brought about this video to begin with.
I've had that experience once on an American Airlines flight; showed the video after takeoff.

Ah could be!
typical German meal: Rostbeef dumplings and red cabbage.

You’re right to be concerned. Either showing a safety briefing (or doing it manually) is important or it isn’t. An airline can’t have it both ways. From LH, an airline I’d always associated with adherence to safety procedure and technical quality, it’s shocking.
Agreed!
Oh my, disqualified and this is a so-called 5 star airline! 😂
I think at the end of the year or overall, all of your past scoring should be put together like a league table and ranked accordingly so that everyone can compare between the best and the worst.
That will be much better than the Skytrax rankings that don't tell us anything
Oh SKytrax is such a joke at this point lol. Thanks for watching 🩴
Don’t understand the reference… Does he like dirty restrooms? Or the Egyptian coast line? 😅
Ha! No, he is known for using the term “lotions and potions” in all his flight reviews. Your video is the only other time I’ve heard this. 🤓
Ahhhh, you know, you may be right. I’ve said it in a few videos but honestly I have no idea where I got it from haha.
