  • We were thrilled with our amazing adventure to Oyster Bay! As we set out on the gravel road, we knew we were in for a bumpy ride, but it was all worth it once we reached our destination. Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the beauty of the village. Oyster Bay is truly a hidden gem, with its stunning beach and massive sand dunes. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was so soothing and relaxing. The Oyster Bay Resort was a bautiful place with camping spots and wood cabins. I particularly loved the rustic feel of the place, which gave it a very natural and authentic vibe. Overall, our trip to Oyster Bay was an unforgettable experience. We would definitely go back in a heartbeat. If you're ever looking for a peaceful escape, Oyster Bay is the perfect place to go! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #easterncape #oysterbay

Thanks for these recent posts, long forgotten how lovely the Eastern Cape is. Worked as a guide at the ostrich farm as a varsity job in 1963! 53 years as a kiwi, but my SA roots still strong. Dankie, alles van die beste. Kiwi Jim

I hear you! I was born in the Eastern Cape, but my folks moved away when I was very young and I forgot every time the incredible natural beauty, until I visit again! 🚙🤩 We appreciate you watching from so far away, thank you! This country remains so very beautiful and we're happy to share all of that with you! 😍🇿🇦

Same here, I've always wanted to see Oyster Bay. It's quite something and a bit of a trek to get there, but well worth it. I can only imagine holidaymakers arriving there with all their supplies and just completely forgetting about the outside world! 🚙🤩🌊 I'd love to be a fly on the wall when you guess where we were headed to next. You can let me know if you were close once the first episode of that trip is uploaded on Thursday! 😁

Once again a lovely trip, hubby worked on those wind farms, used to travel daily from PE, when he wasn't in the mood to drive he would " Carol don't you feel like driving me today?". I would then spend the day driving to these little gem towns till it was time for me to chauffeur him back home 😊. Was very interesting. Enjoy your time @ home & plse let me now when I need to pack again. Love & blessings to the both of you

Hi guys you always seem to find these gems great gravel road surrounded by wind farms I noticed the guys making the bridge useing the same shuttering pans I used in Germany lovely houses I got Groot geneit great enjoyment. You would not want to get lost in those massive sand dunes .the whole area had a tranquil vibe and I can understand why the residents want to keep it quiet beautiful properties very nice lawns considering the lack of rains only in South Africa beware of snakes the drone footage really shows how isolated the place is. Glad to see you arrived home safely. I remember taking a South African guy in my black cab in London who told me he had bought land by the sea in Nysna must be a very rich man today. Thanks for taking me along cheerio till the next one

And there are so many gems to be found! 🚙😁 I'm glad you enjoyed the footage of the bridge being built, I always find it fascinating too. How interesting that they would use similar building materials than you did in Germany, that's quite cool! Oyster Bay is quite an isolated place and the local folks are very protective of its remoteness. There was no cellphone signal the day we were visiting, so they really get away from it all! We appreciate you joining us on this great trip from the Garden Route to the Langkloof to the Gamtoos Valley and home via Gqeberha! We had a great time! 😁

It was our first time in Oyster Bay, so we had no reference point of what it looked like before. Judging by your comment, this beautiful oceanfront village has expanded quite a bit! 🤩🌊 The locals are understandably fiercely protective of their piece of seaside heaven and rightly so! We know windfarms are controversial, but we happen to be in favour of them. As with everything in life, it has its ups and downs, but we believe harnessing nature in such a way is beneficial to the planet for the most part. 🌍 We hate that birds are lost as a result, but it's certainly better than fossil fuel, which we believe may kill many more birds and other wildlife in the end! A matter of opinion, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Oyster Bay was fantastic! A holiday destination with a vibe all its own. I can handle smoked oysters still, but don't make me eat a fresh one. I always say it must be growing up in the Free State, but seafood is a real stretch for me! 🤷‍♂️ I'm glad you enjoyed this journey from Oyster Bay to our mutual hometown of Strand. It's always great to be on the road, but just as great to arrive back home again! 🚙🤩🏠

Hi you two! Thank you for this outing. What an amazing and luxurious place, Dunes so high that you had to fly up in the air to see the sea! Your drone flight captured it beautifully.
I have often heard the name Oesterbaai but now I know what it looks like -- fantastic!
Have a safe drive back to Strand, and get some rest!
We're also about to leave for home and I'll be ready for wherever you will take next.

Oyster Bay was a fantastic, very different experience to the beaches we visited early on in this trip. 🚙🤩 The beautiful white sand everywhere was great to see and I totally get why folks would run away to this place to forget about the grind of daily life. We worked for a few weeks once we got home and then ran away again! That destination we look forward to sharing with you day after tomorrow! 😎 I hope you had a safe trip home, I'm sure you're well-rested and got a good nature fix!

Dutch kroketten jaaaaa 😋😋😋.

We just love those croquettes! 😁🇱🇺 The potato ones are our favourite, but they didn't have any that day and beef and chicken had to do. No mustard for us though, just as they are! I wonder how authentic ours are compared to the real thing you must've enjoyed at your meeting this afternoonI We had some in America too many years ago and they tasted fantastic! I wish we could have a McKroket, I think Sonia would eat them every day! I'm getting hungry now. 🤭 Oyster Bay is a beautiful place and a fitting last stop on our trip before we headed home. Thank you for joining us, we always appreciate having you on board! 🚙🤩 (Let's hope your comment is still there when I go to post this. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻)

Ah! At last I can catch up with you guys! I also never heard of Oyster Bay before. What an impressive sand dune. The camping area is so lovely. Awesome place, thank you, nice treat. The best part for me was the bus shelter. The mosaic is so beautifully done.

I was wondering whether you were on a short hiatus and am so glad to see you back! 😁 I wasn't surprised that you would notice the bus shelter, Sonia loved it too! We missed Oyster Bay on two previous trips and decided to go and check it out on our way home and I'm happy we did! For a seaside village, the beauty is bare and barren in places on the coastal side and we love that! Appreciate you coming along! 🚙🤩

Greetings to all, Oyster Bay has very big houses. Do you suppose people live there permanently, because there were no shopping facilities I saw, or are they just huge holiday homes ? Not many homes have high walls or window security bars which is so unusual but so nice to see. Thank God all went well to return home safely. Thank you 🙏

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  Год назад +1

I think, like with most seaside villages, there is a combination of permanent and holiday residents in Oyster Bay. We weren't there in peak season and there weren't many people around, which would support this thought, but I really don't know one way or another for sure. 🤷‍♂️ There are some pretty fantastic places there though, it was great fun to drive around! 🚙🏡 The locals love the fact that there are no extensive shopping facilities and such and they'd like to keep it that way. I think it would be quite a trek in and out for criminals too, therefore the lack of security measures, which is another great thing for this gorgeous place! Thanks for coming along with us! 🤩

Colin, we used to live there. It was a wonderful time. If you need to do some shopping you go to Humansdorp or to St Francis which was my favourite place to go. I loved it there.
