Every track he has ever rocked he literally outshines every MC that raps with him...even the RZA...and I believe that is why RZA deserted him bc he had more skill poetically and verbally than RZA and he couldn't allow him to be the better... and the sad thing is 99.9% of people who listen to rap these days never even heard of him...that is wrong bc of the caliber of his skill...he makes Em look like a novice...and he was a positive mc who told vivid stories that not only the poor kid from the PJ's can relate to but the 88 year old man would stop and say " did he just say what I think he said"??? he was a good person with a giant heart for everyone, all races, colors & creeds...if he was around today I think he would be ashamed at the Satanic nature of music today...no skill, no poetry, no stories that paint epic pictures...it's all about money. guns, drugs and sex...all whilst disrespecting woman beyond what even the worst and most materialistic rappers of my time "the late 80's and mid 90's" were capable of...it's astounding...to me, he was the very last of true Mc's and the best of em.....I was fortunate enough when I lived in LA to become friends with his wife Dee Dee and to me it was like meeting Jacky Kennedy RIP or Royalty...but she is just like me and you and just a wonderful woman. -maybe one day someone will right a book or a screen play about his life, poetic skill and tragic death...he deserves to have his story told...he was the only good role model in the rap industry out of all the artists I listened to he actually preached positivity about having faith and the truth in this world when it comes to the fed bank and all the TRUE "conspiracies" that people know are true but just don't have the influence, rap skill or courage to let it loose to the public...he did until his dying day....my fav verse was from the song Never Gonna Come Back.... "through physical mine fields- miserable is how my mind feels, knowing there's no time to heal- shit is real----another black mold in a hole---God bless her soul as you travel back home---I'll carry her essence & the thoughts I manifested---as pleasant memories OUTSHINE MY DEPRESSION" that my friends is PERFECT!!!
I havent heard this in over 20 years. I remember listening to this year after my father lost to cancer. I broke down. Many years later I got cancer but I survived it 💪
After 13 years, I came back to listen to this having lost my brothers. Likanga, Patrick and MacDonald Salima. Rest in peace my brothers till we meet again. I promise to represent you well and I will continue to stand on your shoulders!
I had a friend I met many moons ago in our teens (36 now) and he introduced me to this song. I loved from the first time. He would go on to introduce me to countless other things beyond music. Everytime we would link I would ask him to play this. For years. He died of Cancer a few years back..The irony that this song foreshadowed his death hurts me til this day. Hindsight is a .....
"a meaningless death made me ? the meaning of life does my body stay at rest like when i'm sleeping at nite, will i burn in internal hell, or will i find paradise, be rejected, or resurrected like the body of Christ????" now that's lyricism guys keep the music alive!!!!
"My strength is the most high, my fam and close friends The Last Emp and Set Free blessed me with a verse Staying healthy comes first Look at me things could be worst" The most emotional ending to a song anyone has ever written. Poetic is a good name! Gravediggaz for life!
This remains one of the most poignant, haunting, heart wrenching, and visceral songs I’ve ever heard. Idk why I thought if it again today, but here I am. What a beautifully tragic performance. Hearing this as a child made me cherish health and life so much more. Now, as an adult, having lost so many friends to gun violence, overdose, or the prison system, I realize just how blessed I truly am. this is music, this is art, this is LIFE
The Last Emperor is the underground diamond in the rough one of the greatest unknown artist, leaps and bounds ahead of his time, even his new material is pure Hip-Hop gold era worthy.
Poetic is and was THE most talented modern day poet of the 20th century...just listening to him reminds me of a troubadour from the middle ages that spins rhymes for royalty the way he delivers his verses is , I have no other word for it other than PERFECT...his rhymes are flawless....some would say he was way ahead of his time , but I think he was behind his time possibly thousands of years before time memorial...YES I believe he is and always will be the greatest MC of all time on planet Earth w/out question. RIP Anthony and Dee Dee, your a great gal and I am proud to have met you and call you my friend....... - Robbie T
Poetic, Rest in Poetry man!!!!!!!! this tune gives courage to a lot of people out there..... i remember me having tears when i first listened to this track....... "things could be worse"....... so true man....
been having a heavy heart lately, listening to this song got me chopping onions and finding solace in dark space and the questions i have no answers to.
His outlook was still positive in that moment, his mental fortitude was beyond incredible, definitely one of the most underrated MC's from the 90s. Was a great person too (donated money and time to inner city programs and stuff like that), such a shame he passed away so young.
"Every time I question death my only answer is life" This is THE most touching hiphop song ever. Major respect to Last Emperor- one of the best emcees EVER.... and Rest in Peace Too Poetic aka Grym Reaper (6 feet deep is a classic album)....
One of the saddest songs I ever heard and The Last Emperor’s best song no doubt. Poetic’s verse was actually better than Emp’s both were so very great. The best concept song about dying from an illness in all of Hip-Hop, quite a hidden gem. Everything about this song was so flawless from the brilliant lyrics to the meaningful concept to the well-sung vocals to the mixing and production. Just an absolutely eloquent masterpiece.
RIP Poetic. I grew up listing to this masterpiece and always felt terrible for anyone who has/had to endure what Poetic describes in his verse. Ironically, about a year and half ago at age 28, i found myself on the bathroom floor screaming for help. Turns out I had/have stage 4 colon cancer and my tumor ruptured. I'm doing better now, still have a long fight but i keep coming back to this track for inspiration. Being healthy always comes first. Peace.
Ant was an Angel who God put in our mist so he could spread truth to a population that would have NO way of receiving that information from people they trust...he was the one...and God has much bigger plans for him now...he is a warrior for Christ and he lived a loving, strong life while he lived on Earth...and now he is at the right hand of Christ as a true advisor to our Lord...we all miss you and your beautiful words will last for eternity. "HIS GRACE IS SUFFICIANT"!
One of the greatest, if not THE greatest storytelling in hip hop history. Devestating and wonderful at the same time. Goosebumps every time I listen to it.
This song is so sad. The Last Emperor is pure quality. Poetic (second verse) died shortly after this song was recorded. It really hits that much harder knowing that. R.I.P.
the story in this song is just sad. And as if that wasnt enough, the emotion that the beat brings with the rain sounds and guitar as well as the violin in the back (i think its violin) just brings up even more emotion. Definitely one of the best tracks i've ever heard..
Came back to it after an intense bout of kidney stones and small intestines infection after not hearing it for years,no song could have hit any harder.Beautifully sobering piece of art
Rest in Peace Poetic. This is the most personal verse signed Poetic iv'e ever heard in a track ever, when he was ill with cancer and died shortly after the song was made. Sad sad stuff.
this song is so touching...it makes me reminisce on the days that i was innocent....before i started doing bad things...man this song....it brings me emotions that only christian rap/music touched me with...
Poetic's verse is fucking unbelivable, the guy was about to die and wrote amazing and powerful lyrics, Poetic was a strong and wise human being. 'Stay healthy comes first'. Blessings to all the people that are suffering from some disease.
Becomes so much more real when you know Poetic died after laying his verse on this. How he describes it just makes these small problems we all go through insignificant. Amazing.
Hits me right in the heart every time. This track goes deep, deep into my psyche. R.I.P dude. Last Emp. Definitely blessed you with the opportunity to touch the masses.
everyday i turn on the radio and question the fame of the so called "Rappers"... then i go home and listen to artist like this man hear i question why i dont hear him when i turn on my radio... it must be because he educates his listeners, gives him a taste of the real life... im an 18 year old white kid from south dakota, i write and rap just about everyday; its my way of living life and setting myself free.
too me this song is sad for us because we lost an amazing lyricist and person. but its uplifting because listen to his pain...now hes in the better place. death is only feared by those left behind. RIP POETIC AKA GRYM.

Been looking for this song for years since I heard it .... damm poetic grim reaper verse is still heartbreaking 💔he let all his pain spill on this record
Every time I hear this song, it makes me think of the tough times I had. And makes me wonder, why do things happen the way it happens? Will I find the answer after death? What’s going to when I die? Like the song says, “Am I living in the moment, am I living righteously?” I have all these questions to ask myself
Real rap and one of the saddest songs i have ever heard it talks about life and it could end anyday To bad we dont have real music these days. R.I.P Too Poetic
i went to the deadbeats hip hop festival about fifteen years ago an they gave out a mix with this tune, the most beautiful hip hop tune ever made, bless all crew,i been breakdancin, beat box,la lockin, roboticks, makin rymes since 83 old punk dread still lovin it !this song helped me!
I met Last Emp a few years ago, real cool cat. Definitely one of my fav MC's. Combine that with the lovely Esthero and the late Poetic and you've got a match made in heaven, which is more Poetic is at now. RIP, my man.
Too Poetic. Simple as that really. Never did an artists name sum up the individuals talent better. Possibly the greatest man to ever pic up a mic. The only hip-hop track that takes me close to tears every time I hear it. R.I.P. Grym

Damn has to be one of the most powerful songs ever. the background music is so bossing. The story line that goes with it just brings out the true pain of the teller. Really worth listening to, glad this song has so many views. Not enough music like this is heard by the ears.
RIP Poetic.
Although he said he was blessed to do this verse, it's a blessing to everyone who hears it.
Timeless track.

The crazy part about Poetic (the 2nd verse) is that the dude died from cancer. His verse is about the pains of his cancer.
