I think an important step to making realistic shadows is understanding how shadows work. Looking up a diagram of soft penumbra can help. Though it definitely differs depending on the type of light source, the general idea is that the penumbra gets larger as the gap between the object and the shadowed surface gets larger, and so the shadow edge gets less sharp as you go out further. It also helps to think about the inverse square law in lighting, where a close by (idealized) light source will cause a faster fall off of shadow intensity, whereas with a further away light source like the sun this will be more subtle. Then you add in final checks for "should any light be bouncing to here" and "do I need to remove these highlights", etc.
@@srikkanth-techI don't tend to record myself much, since I'm not confident enough to do voiceover or commentary. My channel is more of a bin for me to throw the occasional meme edit (and one of my old attempts at making a serious video) so probably not what you're looking for!
We miss you, Benny. I have such fond memories of your channel and the great content you used to share. It feels like RUclips today just isn't the same without your unique touch. Your old videos were always a highlight, and I genuinely enjoyed each one. Please consider bringing back the style and charm of your earlier work. We’d love to see that content again! 🥹💚🔥
Awesome tutorial. Even being a senior designer I learnt many things from it. Can you please do a quick one on the highlights too? I loved the way you add outline to the objects which contributes alot in to the realism of the scene. Pretty sure many artists would love to learn that,
Beautiful, beautiful. You have been using this technique for a long time, in videos, the process being on speed, not noticing each step, not even in slow motion.
this tutorial is better than the previous ones it's very friendly easy to understand it's helped me a lot can you remake the previous ones like this l love how you nailed it
For the spoon, you can use drop shadow and then r-click layer styles> create layer> then it will create new layer and then you can subtly mask out the dark shadows to soft. This way will create accurate shadows in my opinion.
your tutorial videos are great, could you do a tutorial or a tips video on composition, one thing i notice is that in most of your work you build your own backgrounds/settings by chopping up other images. i find it difficult to figure out what kind of images to choose for creating my scenes and how to make them work. i tend to just find an already decent looking background image to add my ideas into.. thanks for all your content. i look forward to your next video
Pretty helpful Benny, now im growing with my movie poster design because of your videos. Thank you once again. And + I always wonder where did you get those oval landscape brush and its so simple to get after watching these.lol, i guess im a dump ps user. Thank you again Benny
Top video , erg leerzaam. Thanks! Keep it up 💪🏽🙏🏼
I find, for hard shadows, that if you use field blur on your mask, and make the blur 0 px near the subject and 3 px at the farthest point from the subject, it gets a little more realistic. Overall tho, very good insightful video!! Thanks as always
Your technique of painting it is pretty good, but you're missing one crucial thing in your shadows, and this applies to all of your work. Shadows not only change the brightness of the colors, but they also shift in hue. So instead of just turning the shadows darker, the shadow color also shifts in hue as darker as it gets towards the environental hue. If you're only using black/grey shadows the image looks muddy. If you add some color to your shadows it makes it look much more convincing. You should watch some digital painting tutorials to learn more about it, it's a game changer and you'll immediately improve all your art
I don't quite understand. You mean the closer it gets to the floor it should change HUE? I only knew about shadows being more blueish rather than pure black.
@@crristox You can't generalize that shadows are more blueish. This may be the case outside, because of the scattered (blue) light from the sky, that's why shadows have a blue tint during the day, but that's something different, that's bounce light. In the evening when the sky is orange/purple the shadows might be purple. Im talking about light falloff though. The light itself, as it gets weaker, gradually shifts in hue. Look at a flame for example. The brightest spot is yellow. And the darker it gets, the more it shifts towards orange and then red. This happens to EVERY light. A neon green light shifts towards turquoise, baby blue and blue the further it gets away from the source

Shadows are for sure the most important thing for photo manipulation
shadows and Lights is the most important for this.
