The percussionist smile… I knew this performance would be great! I admit I don’t know about Cory Wong work, but this tune sounds like a mix of Spyro Gyra and Steely Dan. 😀
Cory Wong is best known as a sensationally good Rhythm/funk player, but he has some great lead solos too. And he has alot of great music! Definitely recommended
Thanks, Jeff. Gotta love that "percolator funk". Jon Lampley and Kenni Holmen played such great solos! FYI: Jon and Eddie Barbash (sax) have both played in the Stephen Colbert band.
Hahaha omg this is so awesome! ❤ that sax lick at 7:10 blew a hole in my boat haha. I’m stealing that and using it on guitar lol 😂 P.S also love how much Cory Wong is enjoying it. He is always a very humble player, bringing forth the members of his band. And I know for a fact Cory has grown up with Victor Wooten’s “school”(among others) of ‘there’s no wrong notes’, just funky ones lol Cory has some great leads too sometimes.
To Jeff and ALL: If you want a dream ride, check out Cory's collaborations with Sierra Hull. "Over the Mountain," (both versions) for starters. -RH, age 71, Prague
Quote in sax solo is Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue:)
Love kenni giving Cory that I can't breathe look and Cory just waves his hand 'keep it going!'🤣
Whoa! I never knew double sax playing was a thing. Amazingly fantastic! ❤️
Boy, did that take me by surprise. Not only the jaw dropping sax player, but the whole horn section is amazing!
This was filmed in Prince's studio. Sonny T (bass) and Michael Nelson (trombone/horn arrangement) played with Prince
They’re really good!
Cory and the Wongnotes is one f i n e 😆 and funky 🙃 little big band... 😁 & Kenni Holman 🤩 is a monster 😮!!! 😎

Don't forget Nêgah Santos on percussion, who is also in the Late Show Band.
What a groove song! A surprise for me is this Cory Wong. Thanks, Jeff
i love when guys with years of experience get together and blow the roof off the place.

Tip the hat to the drum lesson. Subtle and Personal💕
Definitely some Tower of Power (RIP Rocco Prestia) vibes.

That whole session was smoking! I miss the old line up with Neggah Santos, Sonny T, Ronny Barbash... although the current band is formidable!

I believe he was quoting Rhapsody in Blue.
