My first job was as a gift-wrapper for Sears when I was a teenager, about 50 years ago! This was a lovely trip down memory lane!
Oh wow! That’s so cool. I remember the gift wrapping stations fondly. Btw, my grandmother used to make custom drapes for Sears. Every time my mom and I stopped at Sears for something (also about 50 years ago), we’d go to the back room and say hi to her and all her friends. They had ginormous sewing machines.
When I was a child, my parents went to a department store at Christmas time and bought items that needed wrapping. It was the most powerful ASMR experience I’ve ever experienced. There I am staring blankly at the gift wrapping and almost past out. So this is a true treasure for me

I too grew up in the Sixties, Sherri - tho' in Ireland & the UK. Shopping in Dublin or London then - particularly at Christmas was a little less flambouyant, but the smells, sounds & cold, biting Winters were unlike anything that may be experienced in the Twenty-first century; nowadays, it is clinical, detached, & overly superficial. This then, was something of a trip down memory lane; of the few videos I have watched thus far, I find myself transported back to a better, vanished time - these are superlative presentations - Thank you !

My grandmother worked at a dress factory for a while, and then eventually at Sears in the custom drapery department. I remember my mom taking me back to the sewing rooms to visit Mamaw anytime we were at Sears. Ginormous sewing machines. When I moved out on my own, my grandmother made me custom drapes (pinch pleats!) for my apartment. 🛋️💚
@@MidModMeridianASMR That is very cool, as well!! This was back in early 70s in Ambler, PA. Such great memories! I used to tag along a lot with her to that gift shop. It was on a main street of a little town and I loved strolling down the sidewalk of all the shops!!❤️

This reminds me of my job during college at a pharmacy in the early 80s. It was family run for generations. Lots of gifts - Fenton glass, Precious Moments, Russell Stovers (when it was good), Hallmark, perfume counter, etc. We offered free gift wrap and I was expected to know my regular customer's names. No kidding, as i was a kid in the 60$, my grandparents had glasses like these. And the small ones for cherry liqor. They were only used when they had guests. I guess back then people apprechiated what they owned and took care of the things.

Modern medicine is the only really good thing about the 21stc. We may live longer, but quality of life is worse. Hard to believe we used to have free gift wrapping at stores and full service gas stations and layaway. And I grew up with a Kmart that had a huge slide right next to it. SMH. The past is another world.
