the customizing your bag trend is actually a favorite of mine, because I am always doing it; either painting, adding charms, patches, more pockets, you name it and I do it to my bags. but I can see how it could get old fast when there's no real intention behind it.
Agreed!
Handbags are my vice and I also love this trend. It has helped me fall back in love with the bags I already have, rather than purchasing or lusting after something new.
Recent subscriber for mindful consumption including fashion. I do want to respectfully counter the sheer shoe commentary. The Chinese sheer slides were a prior trend in the early 2000s expanding to the white population (when I was in high school). These shoes are particularly utilitarian in Asian communities as an affordable indoor shoe after taking off outdoor shoes (cultural significance for hygiene and respect). Latin communities are also known for using these shoes as well. It's important to recognize the class and racial connections of these shoes. They may not last as a trend in social media and in the white populations but are a staple in non-white spaces. It's easy to dismiss the longevity of something cheaper and "less sophisticated" per Western standards. However, they have existed for decades compared to the new, expensive, modern, and "more luxurious/fashionable" version.
i was just thinking that!! which is probably the reason why i cant really take it seriously that this would be trendy or fashionable because i see aunties wearing them as bath slippers or walking slippers all the time
I was gonna say! My Halmoni has been wearing these for decades. I've been so confused seeing these on random girls on pinterest and IG. Ajummas have been buying these at Asian markets for forever, ESPECIALLY the ones with the flowers and beads lol. I definitely agree with most of this video and I'm hopefully not coming off as rude, it's just funny to see such serious commentary on house slippers, haha.
@@nixxxxxxie that’s exactly why it’s a crazy micro trend to see, the ones I showed were $80 from Mango
@@michaeladickson 80 DOLLARS?? Y'all that want them should just go down to your local Korean/Chinese/Thai/Viet/literally any Asian market, you'll find yourselves a pair for 4.99 right next to the counter. You'll find all kinds of colours, neutrals, sequins, flowers, whatever. It's right next to the shopping cart full of 50 cent chip and cookie bags.
Shout out to Ajummas and Aunties being trendsetters in their vests, visors, and those strappy sketchers. That's my trend prediction for 2025 lol.
Btw your tip with taking pics of clothes to sell on the back of a closet door facing a window has saved my back from trying to do flatlays on the floor. It's so much easier your way! I can get a whole bag of clothes done in less than an hour now.
Also I love these trend videos. I'm not super into trends, but I love seeing a good summary of what's going on and why.
I think the mesh shoes will be a mircrotrend in either version. Also it's funny you say that the one with beads are the microtrendy ones, because I remember those the most from the past. I remember them being sold in convenience stores for 1 euro and falling apart after 1 wear. I don't really like mesh shoes because they just remind me of nylon invisible socks.
For real!! Growing up in the 2000s we’d buy these for a couple bucks in Chinatown. I think people who live in white bubbles think these slippers are a new trend when really they have never been and never will be a microtrend 🫠
I also feel like it’s gotten easier to pass by micro-trends now that I’m in my late 20s. Looking at all the veryyy young influencers online makes me think that it’s so much easier for them to buy into micro-trends because they don’t even know themselves yet!
yes! I feel the same! Feels like I turned 25 and really knew what I wanted from clothing
I love the analogy of sambas being the trend and the micro trend being brightly coloured sambas. I will forever be a samba stan, idc if they are trending or not, they are a comfy cute shoe!!
I love that! I actually have the bright pink adidas gazelles and wear them often 💗
so many truths in this video that simply need to be said !!!!!
I just would like to say that I understand the rage about the "Berkinification" of bags and the way it's being done. I've always been a collector of little trinkets and cute things and anyone that knows me that comes into my home or sees some of my more deeply expressive outfits says "wow it really feels like you in here" or "that outfit is so you". People can tell and feel it when it's genuine (not trying to toot my horn, I've just always been that way and gotten that feedback) i think this is the vibe people are doing "cheap" versions both financially and dare i say emotionally too lol.
It's the same shit with people wanting to be "gym girlies", "running girlies" etc... just because you buy gym clothes or running clothes and maybe went running once doesn't make you those things.. it takes time and most people don't want to put in that time because it's hard and takes time and effort and our entire society seems to be driven by instant gratification these days. Idk .. I could go on and I'm SURE you could too haha. I love it.
Also love the tip about imagining if you would pack it. Carry on girlie for life here too
i love these ranty sit down videos!! so many good takes 😊
Just watched a Link Ozark video on micro trends. She defines them as very item specific trends, like the example you gave of colored Sambas. But not more general looks, like mob wife. When I first heard the term I assumed it referred to the duration, as you seem to. Either way, as a 62 year old, it blows my mind to see how fast things come and go now. One thing I would have preferred, though, are the choices. Growing up in northern Ohio in the 70s, I just remember that everyone in my high school wore the same style regardless of how well it suited you.
Laini, not Link!
mob wife microtrend was so quick I didn't even know it happened... like was I not on tiktok that week how did I miss that
literally the fastest thing to ever trend then fade away
Lots of great points in this. So much shallow fashion these days.
The Sambas are like the opposite of a micro-trend, they're a mass phenomenon. I'd say even the colorful adidas trainers are more than micro at this point. But people putting charms on their bags I haven't really seen irl so I think that's just a micro trend.
I don’t even notice trends, micro or otherwise. I wear vintage clothes from the 60s through 90s every day. I get more compliments than I ever did when I paid attention to what was in style. It’s very funny bc young people are always asking me where I got something so they can get it too. Goodwill, passed down clothes, the occasional vintage shop.
I’m so grateful to you and others who are helping all of us be reminded how influencers are just doing their job when they have enormous wardrobes etc. someone else who made a video like this said something like “ you CANNOT out shop an influencer” ( or even ‘keep up’ shopping with an influencer). That sentence is now like a little ‘mantra’ for me. Every time I watch a video and find myself ‘comparing’ their wardrobe ( quality/ brand of items and quantity) to me and my ‘accessibility’ I will repeat this quote/ saying to remind myself how ‘unrealistic’ their life is. I like how you said it too and will use the line…” It is their JOB, it’s not my job” .
You covered this so well!!!
I enjoy this kind of video! it validates my principle of sticking to what works for me and not being swallowed by trends that make me insecure and broke. I appreciate people who are into it but it's not just for me
I feel the people with the most style have very strong opinions directly or indirectly
I genuinely tend to wait a few weeks after a trend is out. You'll find another designer has come out with another version of it that will suit my style more. But I'm also very picky with what I wear so I guess it contributes to me not wasting money on microtrends.
Do not judge it by if it’s micro trend or not if the garment or shoe is for you take it
Excellent points and excellent questions to ask! Personally, I had to stop watching a lot of these "big" influencers because most of their vlogs were becoming one big advertisement, for the most part. I thrift when I feel the need for a little something new and even on the thrift that is a 50% off day I am picky. Don't need/want all the stuff that becomes clutter. I finally figure out I like comfort, casual and classic. Has really helped my brain :)
That's so true. We feel like we can relate to "normal" influencers... minus the free stuff, and the getting paid hundreds for taking a picture with a product, etc.
I think that micro trends can be fun but I do not participate unless I already had the item or it is really, truly something that I will use for years.
I actually bought the expensive Ganni tie front top on sale (still expensive) and it justlooked terrible on me. 😢 Just because it is cute on some doesn't mean it will be cute for everyone. Lesson learned. Expensive lesson.
There’s no more fear of missing out when you know everything about your body and colors and your needs and wants which is entirely taste
Ok, I’m old. How old is none of your business. This post is one of the best I have ever watched. All the information is spot on. It is sad that young woman fall into the influencer trap”. These media people say what they do to make money. The best thing you all could do is leave social media behind and be yourself.

The mesh with the beads is so nostalgic ❤ #2005
Actually it might have been 2004 🤣
This video is so insightful, I love your outlook!! The trends are so hard to keep with up these days. What do you think about the boxer short trend? Debating if I should buy into that one.
I think it depends! I find them really cute but not for me because I don’t like short shorts. I do however have some cotton pants that are in the same style as boxer shorts just long and I looove them! I think it’s a good purchase if you know what you like
I've been loving your content lately. I hope your subs take off soon because your stuff is great
Thank you!! 🥰
Well said! Might seem obvious, but I feel you really nailed it with your good arguments. 👏
"little micro-trend, micro-short" say that 3 times fast! I agree the bloomers are such a micro trend that IMO will be embarrassing in a short period of time.
Wow second comment.. and what a great video I had my eye on the tie front top but still not sure if i should or shouldnt buy it
🌻
Your cadence is killing me
is this good or bad
I always ask the is this a good outfit or is she just pretty TT pretty people get away with too much
no literalllyyy I’m always like oh haha this is ugly once I get it on my normal person body lmao
Thank God you didnt..😊
I was really looking forward to your video this week.. your videos uplift my mood.
Thank you ♡
Aw what a sweet comment! Thank you 💗
