Critiquing superhero movies seems a little redundant, to be honest. It's kinda like reviewing a new McDonald's burger and expecting actual food. I'd like to hear your thoughts on some more substantial films out at the moment, such as Beau is Afraid, or Influencer, or even the new series of Back Mirror

Whilst I agree with you, the fact is that those films get very few views. We are both very busy and have to put our efforts where they have the biggest impact.

@@ValVerdeBroadcasting Ah, I see the dilemma. I mean no disrespect by the way - I've been a subscriber for years, and will happily sit through a review by you guys for a movie I have absolutely no interest in seeing. You both have a deep understanding of the craft, so it can sometimes seem a little below you both to be indulging the audience, if you catch my drift. In any case, I thoroughly enjoy your content! All the best!

@@ValVerdeBroadcasting Yeah, sadly that's true. Even the 'back from the cinema' channels [like Jeremy Jahns] rarely look at non mainstream films these days for that reason and I appreciate that you've got other priorities outside the channel.

So, all the RUclipsrs I respect, and I like to hear their opinions/takes on movies (and you guys are def up there) have pretty much said, this is a mess, and not very good. I haven’t been interested in anything from Marvel or DC for a LONG while, BUT I really enjoyed this for what it is. I laughed a few times (some of the jokes def did not land though) Yes there were loads about this that is PISH (effects at times, Ezra’s younger self, some pretty poor writing). Loved Supergirl, the Batman stuff was great, some of the set pieces were pretty exciting. Maybe it was because my expectation were ROCK bottom, that I came out pleasantly surprised. Solid 6.5-7/10, and yes I probably need to have a word with myself for that.

Like most releases during this summer, this was filmed under Covid which bloated the budget [the upcoming Mission Impossible for example went over budget by $100 million due to it] and the CGI studios overworked and understaffed
which might explain the dodgy effects here. Keaton was a cast member of the cancelled 'Batgirl' film but that was only going to be a cameo.

Perfect timing, I just got back from the cinema. I haven’t watched this review yet, I’ll comment first so my opinion is untainted. I pretty much loved it really! I thought it was great fun. The dodgy PlayStation 2 level CGI didn’t even put me off. I don’t know much about Ezra Miller but he’s bloody entertaining. I’ve heard something about him being some kind of pervert or something so he should fit right in in Hollywood! All the nostalgia stuff was nicely handled in my opinion, so I liked all that. The icing on the cake was to see on the big screen something that we were tragically denied, which I won’t spoil, but you’ll know it when you see it. I’m glad I picked this over transformers even though I like things with big monkeys in!

Part of Keaton Batman return [along with cameos] was going to be a Batman Beyond movie which would have made sense given his age [apparently they also wanted Michelle Pfeiffer to return as Catwoman] but these plans have long since been scrapped. Keaton instead will follow this with the long delayed Beetlejuice 2 planned to be out next year.

I intially thought, that if the alternate universe version of super heroes do exist in these stories, shouldn't they all still look the same? But then i just realised, well different artists always draw the characters differently in comics anyway. So you can excuse it in that sense.

I just saw it and honestly found it a lot of fun. But maybe I'm just a sucker for time travel storylines (especially when characters go back into other "movies" and change things). Michael Keaton was great although, I surprisingly didn't find the return of his Batman to be for me as much of an overall crutch as I thought would be the case. The cameo-fest at the end is either a "loving tribute" or "cynical exploitation" depending on your point of view, and I appreciate that milage is going to vary on that person to person.
As for the cgi, sometimes it was great, sometimes it was fine and then other times it was admittedly terrible. Everything inside that whole "time sphere" I can give a pass to because it's supposed to be a reality bending environment, but towards the final big battle I was noticing things like one of the Ezra Miller's suddenly having a weird cgi face for some reason, and it was really distracting.
But overall I can't lie, I had a good time with it and if I'm brutally honest, I think I may even have enjoyed this more than any of the other DCEU films we've gotten up till now (it's probably a toss up between this and Wonder Woman or Shazam).
