SAILING TO FAKARAVA - SwT 153 - Sailing to the most famous Pacific atoll in French Polynesia

- In this episode, we set sail from Rangiroa to the Atoll famous for all the sharks that hang around there. This requires some planning not only arriving in daylight but to time this with the tidal water that can create some serious challenges at the entrance. There are no tidal tables to look at, so I used my sailing experience to come up with a strategy to find the best timeframe and also to leave this atoll soon. We had a beautiful 175 nautical miles sail here in the south pacific, first heading a bit north and then towards east to not miss Fakarava.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever we have time for it. I used to sail singlehanded and occasionally have sailing friends onboard. But now the permanent crew aboard BE FREE is including Gee from Holland. We are now exploring the Pacific Ocean.
Even though this is season 5 on RUclips I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean prior to this, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.
No problem for the boss! The white caps on the entrance had me worried as this indicates shallow water. Thomas, you should be lucky to have a "gourmet meal" in the middle of nowhere! Salute from Louisiana, USA⚜🍾💪🍻
Growing up on the Bay of Funday I know how careful current and tides can be ,neat to see how blue the waters are.
Tahitian music still makes chicken skin for me. Lovely as always.
It is something special for sure! Thank you so much for watching
That spot your anchored ⚓️ in Fakarava looks so serene. 👌 😊
Wow Thomas, you are in paradise
Beautiful anchorage!
Sure is! Most of the anchorages in the pacific is on really deep water. So make sure to bring long chain if sailing this direction.
Cheers
