    Starting with the vitamix on high could potentially damage the motor overtime, whenever I blend frozen fruit, just start at zero, then turn the dial. You don't need to go slow, but go from zero to ten, not off to trn

    • @PotatoWisdom
      @PotatoWisdom  7 лет назад +14

      that's how I used to do it but I found that makes my blender angry and hot. This way it's done in less than 30 seconds

      You're dumb these machines are never broken barely any break unless someone purposely breaks it which clearly they wouldn't do plus you got a 10 year warranty anyway when you get certain models some are around 7 years

      Also these blenders ain't cheap it's built with metal components so is very capable of handling anything you throw at it you can use any ingredient no matter how solid on the blades the motor is built using the same stainless steel think about it tool

    Thank you! This just happened. I was making banana nice cream and did not turn it all the way up. I did the gradual turn and it overworked the blender. So it's best to just start out w/ the tamper in which I didn't do as well. Sheesh. It started smoking underneath, I thought I broke it but then rinsed it out and ran it w/ just water and it worked fine no smoke. I'm thinking the blades got stuck and the motor was trying to spin and it just quit. Thank goodness I did not break it, those are expensive!

    • @PotatoWisdom
      @PotatoWisdom  5 лет назад +4

      Go with what feels right for you. One thing I like about this method is that it's done and over with quickly without making a smell from a hot motor. When I do it the slow (suggested) way, I notice the motor starts to smell.

    • @jenevievevegandc
      @jenevievevegandc 2 года назад +1

      @@PotatoWisdom thanks again. yes I think it is best to make it quick, turn it on high. Like you I was afraid to turn it up too high and so it over works the motor. I had smoke coming out the bottom and was afraid I broke it but now it works fine. Next time I feel brave enough to make banana nice cream again I will try this "quick" method rather than the gradual turn up way.

  • @weightlossat5979
    @weightlossat5979 6 лет назад +5

    First, you could pulse it first. Second, 4 bananas for two people is a LOT, it could serve 4 people. Especially since you are adding more fruit. Also, banans are great and thanks for the tip about defrosting a bit so they arent like banana rocks in the vitamix. I think another trick might be to add some coconut oil or a bit of avocado...to keep it from getting too crystalized. Finally, liquid stevia has a vanilla creme flavor that I use in my chia pudding and it is really good. The options are endless...banana strawberry, banana chocolate, coconut, mango...pretty much any fruit.

    • @PotatoWisdom
      @PotatoWisdom  6 лет назад

      You can do this in a food processor. Cut your bananas into chunks before freezing. When you're ready to make your nice cream, let the bananas sit out for 10 minutes to defrost slightly. Add to your food processor, pulse until smooth (you may need to add a splash of non-dairy milk, and you also may need to remove the lid a few times to push the bananas off the sides of the food processor). I hope this helps!

    Can you use a blender instead of a vitamix?

    • @PotatoWisdom
      @PotatoWisdom  6 лет назад +1

      The tamper is what makes the biggest difference and it only comes with a vitamix as far as I know. If you want to make it in a regular blender, I suggest letting the bananas defrost a little longer (maybe 15 minutes at room temp) then give it a go, you may need to add some almond or soy milk to help it along.

    • @evolutiongirl321
      @evolutiongirl321 6 лет назад

      A Vitamix is a blender. Do you mean food processor? Yes, you can use a food processor.

    • @christopherbarker9079
      @christopherbarker9079 3 года назад

      @@evolutiongirl321 A Vitamix is a blender, but it's a very powerful one with overheat protection (it shuts off if it gets too hot -- yes, I have had that happen more than one with frozen bananas). I bought my Vitamix specifically for this, as my regular blenders (both a ninja and a Kitchenaid) just didn't have the power.
      You can add more liquid (milk, soy milk, etc), which is OK, but it gets pretty watery, so you need to freeze it --then it gets harder than pure banana.
      Also: the Vitamix has the tamper, which is very helpful. I Have no idea why other blenders don't have that -- it's pretty simple.

    Guys please DONT START VITAMIX ON HIGH!!! It’s going to ruin the motor after several such uses. Always first break up the frozen fruit on low speed and once it is mixed up into a sludge, then gradually increase speed over the course of 30 seconds or so.

    • @PotatoWisdom
      @PotatoWisdom  5 лет назад +3

      Nope. I have been doing this for 4 years. No problems whatsoever. The key is to let the fruit defrost for at least 10 minutes. The vitamix ends up on high for less than 30 seconds. Yet when I do it the way you suggested, my vitamix motor gets HOT and smells.

    dang 500 bucks for a blender? not at all doable for this po boy. Do you actually need a blender AND and food processor? won't a processor do the job of a blender? thanks

      I'd just stick with your food processor if you have one, it just takes more patience and time to do this in the food processor.

      Made my first batch; the bananas and strawberries mixed up very quickly and next time, I'll put the pineapple in first:) Also, once i dumped out the mixture, i put the lumps back in for another go. It was delicious. Afterwards, i put the NC in the freezer but i have to chop it out of it's container, which is okay; may find a buncha one serving containers to freeze it in next time.
      Thanks for the intro to NC; i love it!
      Oh, and I found an acceptable food processor, in like new or new condition, at a flea market for $5! Just had to fashion myself a tamper cause it was missing. Nice Cream on a Budget!

    Starting the motor off to high is better. Electric motors have their highest torque almost instantly. Starting it low and then turn the knob actually stresses the motor more as you start it with its lowest torque. The only problem is that it will probably catapult all the materials up. I am starting it somewhere middle and then take it all the way up. Now if someone wants to start it low there shouldn't be a problem as these machines are built like tanks.

      Really? It's not like she rubbed poisonous mud in her hair. Grief, it's just hair, which is made of the same "stuff" that fingernails are. Do you eat food touched by someone's fingernails? I swear, some people just feel it is their JOB to write something negative, even if it is utter bollocks.

      Amy Lynn Hunt some people have different opinions on things. my mom told me when i cook and i touch my hair make sure i was my hands. it’s just proper hygiene. and it’s not rude it’s the truth.
