Great review. Don’t forget the new approach shot section. That feature is pure. I have owned my mlm2 for a bit. Definitely improved my game. It’s interesting watching my hozel hit a ball in slow motion.
Great review! We do a lot of Garmin reviews and this Rapsodo looks to offer quite a bit more accuracy. Stuck in a pickle if it is worth switching from the R10 to this. Helpful insight! And congrats on your channel's success!
My issue with this one, which is giving me buyers regret, is getting it aligned with the ball. It has to be perfectly aligned, and it takes some time to do that.
Agree with this. And I haven’t figured out how to play a simulated round while I’m at the range due to the position of the camera on tee shots, versus lies off the mat (without having to recalibrate the camera after hitting driver each time). That’s been a bummer. Would be nice to see an update in the future where they increase the FOV of the cameras, so the ball could be seen by the device anywhere within a wider defined radius, thus also reducing the alignment time of setting the mlm2pro up.
Can you do a review on the “golf daddy” at home simulator please? Just picked one up and I think it’d be worth your time to do a video. Love your reviews and content!
I've owned one for 3mths. I mainly hit it indoors into a net. Whilst I've carefully set it up using their exact suggested distances from Rapsodo unit to ball, and ball to net, I find the distance accuracy disappointing. It's under selling distances by 10-20% - especially with driver - which is frustrating. This isn't just me over estimating my distances - when I take it to an outdoor range the distances are really accurate. (I note in your review your driver distances were slightly down too vs Trackman). I'm not sure whether it has trouble picking up balls hitting into my black net (vs hitting into a white impact screen), but either way it's frustrating and is the only thing that stops me wholeheartedly recommending the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro
FWIW, i've got a friend doing a lot of research because he's taking the plunge into a big simulator. He said that doppler radars, when indoors, are susceptible to metal buildings (if inside a metal building, the radar can bounce around a bit making the data a bit less accurate). So that's why he's going camera-based. If i ever get this, i don't see it being an issue because i'd be using it on an outdoor net anyway.
Yes, I want to get it for outside to hit into a net but worried about that, I wonder if I need to put some kind of white tarp behind the black ball net to help it read better?
Is it picking up to much spin or just calculating it wrong. Cause on GS pro you can let GS pro take the launch characteristics and they get the distance
This! I play weekly and know my good driver distances. Couldn’t come close to my normal numbers on this inside with the RPT balls into a black net. I have the setup distances correct also. It still disconnects and I just got it. Sadly I’ll be sending this back. Going to probably get the Mevo+
Great, well produced video as always. Liked the accuracy testing, but you are leaving like 30 yards of carry on the table with your driver!? Based on your club speed and spin numbers, you are probably hitting down and/or coming over-the-top.
No matter what device you get, I think the first set up steps include downloading new firmware. The software you download will automatically have the latest stable version.
I have been really thinking of getting this Rapsodo device, but my thing is that I plan to use it outdoors in my back yard. Have you heard how well it works outdoors?
Hey @breybone! As long as you have adequate space and somewhat level ground there should not be any problems. Many users lack the space indoors and will pair the MLM2PRO with a hitting mat and Net Return! Reach out to our support team if you have any other questions regarding set up and they will be more than happy to assist!
Yeah, if you're looking for a launch monitor under $1k for a net outside, this is the one I'd go with. Being able to use RPT balls into a net, puts this well above any competing options at this price.
Have you test it with the Awesome Golf app, to which they are compatible? I have the Garmin and I only sue Awesome Golf... These lower end native apps tend to suck anyway and dont fully leverage all the equipment potential.
Yes, this device works good from 100 yards out. Sucks from anything inside that range. Wonder how much you got paid to talk this product up had to return it after two weeks of trying to get it to pick up a chip shot.
Is the side spin better! Have you watched any comparable reviews? I owned the Garmin for a while and also have the MLM2, the MLM2 destroys the Garmin. The only issue with the MLM2 is the random disconnections.
@michaeldasilva6753 Not quite. You will be able to see from the slowmo impact camera if your face is open or close. However you still won't know what you path is doing so trying to fix face or path will be pretty hard. Unless your miles in to out or out to in.
By far the biggest issue with the mlm2pro is the miss shots and flakey direct wifi connection. It can make for a very frustrating session, but when it's working, the accuracy performs well above its weight class. Just a shame these two issues still persist. The mlm2pro would otherwise be a near perfect unit. @Rapsodo here's hoping software can address this
@@Rapsodo Hi Rapsodo! MLM2Pro owner here - can you please confirm if club data is coming to beta soon? I can't seem to get a response from the support team. If it is, can you please provide a ballpark estimate of when? Thank you!!
This would definitely be my pick in this price range to use as a simulator. For a little less you can also use the Garmin R10 or the Swing Caddie SC4 - neither of those need a subscription to use the included e6 courses, which is the big advantage they have over the Rapsodo. But the Rapsodo is more accurate.
@Rapsodo I disagree for a beginner club path is fr more important than shot shoe as lots of different things can use shot shape but swing path us something that needs to be consistent
Love the reviews but in this case it would've been helpful to see the results outside without the special tracking balls. Using it at a range or on the course for me personally, so indoor results with improvement tracking balls is eh, but good to know. If you ever use it outdoors I'd be interested to see that update/review.
- I have the MLM2Pro and can say it’s perfect for use on the range. However, you will not get spin data; the device will track the ball, and you will have a shot tracer, and the distance will be very accurate. Using it on course sounds good in theory, unless you are playing alone and no one is behind you it’s more of a pain in reality. The RPT balls make a significant difference when playing indoors, which shouldn’t be dismissed.
Sean, I've not yet used one of these or read your other reviews entirely, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. When you're comparing the accuracy of the MLM to the Trackman (or to any other monitors), is there a control or validation of some kind? I.e. how do you know the Rhapsodo is less accurate than the Trackman and not the other way around? Or is the Trackman a gold standard of accuracy?
Tracking accuracy is the hardest part of these videos, as you never really know which one is correct. But the Trackman is generally considered the gold standard - so in this video I used it as the control.
The Garmin R10 is the cheapest way to get club path, but I haven't found it to be terribly accurate. The alignment of the unit can pretty dramatically effect the results, and it's not actually measuring - its using an algo to calculate that specific metric. The Mevo Plus I believe is the cheapest product to give impact detection. But even that, you'll need both Pro Package and Impact Detection Package. When on sale, and using a promo code, you should be able to get for like $2600ish.
No spin data with no RPT balls however the ball is tracked and you will get a shot tracer (when using on the range). You only get spin data with RPT balls.
I have stopped using it because it would freeze, miss shots and I ended up spending half my time on the range fiddling with it to get it working. Real disappointment.
