    I recently purchased a RA2 pro to replace my roller only that I've had for about 4 years now and I'm couldn't be happier. However I guess you could use the ability to turn tumblers on end to engrave a logo on the bottom

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  2 месяца назад

      You could just turning it upside down and engrave it without the rotary. Have to raise the laser up quite a bit though.

  • @swissfreek
    @swissfreek Год назад +1

    3:09 I’ve seen folks with galvo lasers use a rotary pointed straight up like a turntable to do multiple items at once since they are limited on workspace. Burn a job, rotate in the next one like a revolver, repeat. Not something us with XY machines need, but still really neat that they built this capability in.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Год назад +1

      Yes, this is why I pointed out that you can rotate the chuck straight upward. In the case of a fiber laser you would typically create a turntable that can be mounted on the chuck where you can load parts and engrave in volume.
      This rotary should work with any laser where you can connect and extra stepper motor and fiber lasers are no exception - though not all fiber lasers have an separate rotary output.

    Just looked it up but only found the KR Pro rotary - interested to check out what the difference is. I only have the RA1 for my xTOOL D1 Pro but within weeks of getting it, I was seeing the RA2 everywhere. Not keen for something similar to happen again so I want to look into it first.
    Great tool, though, regardless. I have spare stepper motors and was going to build one with a chuck but
    I do like the look of this.

      The RA1 and RS2 Pro are still decent rotary attachments, but the KR Pro is the next evolutionary step.

    People on various social media platforms always say Diode lazers can't etch/engrave on plain stainless steel without using cermark or equivalent product. It looks like you didn't use anything, is that accurate?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Год назад

      Correct. No need for Cermark when using a diode laser on Stainless Steel. Not sure why people think it would be required, but they are incorrect.

    Very interesting. I own an Atezr P20+ but i have the X-tool RA2. It might be worth it to upgrade, from what you've shown.
    On thing though : you did not mention anything about the risers for the machine. And without risers, there can be no work with a roller or a chuck, so are the risers we can see on your machine custom-made or 3D-printed? Did you purchase them (if yes, where?)

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Год назад

      Sorry you are correct. The KR 20 kit also comes with replacement feet for the Atezr lasers. These obviously won't work for a non-Atezr laser, but I probably wouldn't use them on my V20/V35 either. It would be far better to leave the existing feet on the laser and just use corner blocks to raise the laser up when you are using the rotary. This would avoid having to pull all the screws to constantly swap between short and tall feet.

    Thanks for your video. I would like to engrave gourds which can be 8 to 10 inches in Diameter or longer than the base appears to be for the hour glass shaped ones.. also interested in engraving bamboo. I can’t even get shipping info from Atezr re the new gen 36 w laser which I would order from them if it would match my travel plans. Not courting new customers like they should.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  Год назад

      Right now, manufacturers should be going above and beyond to lock in sales.
      If you’re engraving gourds I can’t imagine you would need a 36W laser anyway. Atezr has the best rotary but it will work on any other laser. If you did want a 30+W laser, for around the same money I would choose the Acmer P2. I also have a review of the AlgoLaser Delta coming up in a few days. It’s only a 22W but it works like a 33W and has some very nice innovations not found on any other laser.

    I can't get rotary chuck to hold on to heavy dollar store tapered glasses. It don't matter if I try to grip them from the small end or the wide end, they slip out of the the chuck. And, it also doesn't matter if I grip them outside or inside. Any ideas?

    • @SteveMakesEverything

      Try to grip it from the inside by expanding the chuck and using pins. If not you may have to use a roller. Some items are just too heavy

      I did a video a while back (in fact you left a comment on that one too😀) where I plugged my RA2 Pro into my Muse 3D to engrave some mugs with handles. So yes, pretty much any rotary can be connected to any laser.
      In the case of the Muse I needed to create some different cabling, but for most lasers that use Lightburn, the KN Pro should just work with one of the two cables Atezr provides. It is certainly a much nicer offering than the one FSL provides for the Muse and is about half the price as well. Other CO2 laser sellers are similarly priced and also not nearly as nice as the KN Pro.
      I'm happy to try this on my SP-3624 laser and put a RUclips Short up to show it if you want.

      @SteveMakesEverything  11 месяцев назад

      Support from most companies is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. Everyone wants to sell you something but no one wants to support.
      There really isn't much that can go wrong with a rotary attachment, since it's really only a $20 stepper motor attached to rollers or a chuck. However it is possible to blow the stepper driver if the rotary is plugged in or unplugged while the laser is powered up. If this is what happened then it can certainly happen to any laser - and it's very easy to do. Companies (and RUclipsr makers too 🤔) should do a much better job at pointing this out to people.

      @@emce2pl Yes, I understand. The driver for the rotary is on the controller in the laser (as noted the rotary is just a motor). I'm willing to bet that the driver is dead and you will need a new controller.
      This isn't first complaint I've heard about support for laser products and I've heard some about Atezr, but they aren't unique, so I don't think it's safe to assume that Sculpfun (and I've heard complaints about them too) or any other company is somehow much better. Improving support is an area where every company needs to focus.
      Some (like xTool or Longer) seem to do it better, but none are what I would call awesome from a support perspective.
