    I've been very impressed with Anker over the years since they started arriving in the UK (mostly low power stuff & USB though). The only issue I've had was a dead USB power pack once, but they replaced that immediately with no quibbling & didn't force me to walk half a mile to return the broken one.

    Not read the specs at this point but the temperature range is pretty standard stuff... for discharging. Always read the fine print. A battery that can't be charged below 0c and is mounted outside isn't a lot of chop in cold countries unless it has self-heating capabilities.

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts 2 месяца назад +1

      It can interface with Home Assistant, so basically you'd set up one of those on a hub connected via Ethernet & then just integrate that with the batteries. You could then use it instead of or alongside the mobile app. You can use small UPS devices to keep your networking equipment and the hub itself online in a full power failure if the Anker batteries themselves & the grid go down, and those can also keep your WiFi up (just without internet).

  • @KavanOBrien
    @KavanOBrien 3 месяца назад +2

    Sorry if my ideas are stupid , but the benefits of me being stupid = makes others look good , do you think in the future they would have a solar panel that is linked to a heater such as the floor radiators like they use in a ATA heat pump type so you would have a solar panel for disguised as blinds or shutters which in turn would have a small amount of batteries built into the radiator that would be enough to give out warm or cool air , depending on the time of year , depending on the size of the window and size of the room will dictate the size of battery needed with the radiator. I have three south facing windows plus a front door to the hallway plus a back door both doors south facing, I know the angle on the roof would be better but to capture the sun just enough to give energy for small air radiators you would not need 100% perfect situation, or am I just a thought away from total madness ?

    • @nightcatarts
      @nightcatarts 2 месяца назад

      It could work, but as you say the angle on a vertical surface isn't great so the actual solar cells themselves would need to be tilted to compensate for that I think. They can also be quite heavy so blinds might be out of the question.
      As for now, I've got heat issues (well, heatwave issues really) in my house too & fitted those cellular blinds with aluminium inside and that has made a big difference as a passive solution, in both hot & cold conditions, so I can recommend those if you have tempered glass & trickle vents on your door & window frames already. Without the vents you'll have to leave at least a 10cm gap at the bottom to avoid mould building up, & without the tempered glass you may find your glass cracks due to the extreme heat build-up between it & the blinds. Exterior shutters will do better than anything else available right now if you're able to use those though.

    • @KavanOBrien
      @KavanOBrien 2 месяца назад +1

      @@nightcatarts I don’t have vents in the windows or doors, I thinking about the flexible panels not the solid one on the roof type but thank for replying.

    Out of interest, for a 5kW inverter what size cable would you need back to fuse board? (assuming a 10m run, and 10kWh battery) Logic says nothing major (2.5mm2), but I guess efficiency matters a lot given number of charge cycles....
    Im asking as Id love to know approx complexity of installation (there is already a 6mm2 cable spare in the ceiling void).

    Had a quick look at the manufacturer's specs on line - all US spec at the moment, which is strange given they were showcasing the device in a European city.
    Anyway, double-checked the ENA Connect Direct Live Device Register and to date (4th July 2024) it has no certification for use in the UK, yet.
    Oh, and the manufacturer claims a "switch time" of 20mS - that'll be the time for the switchgear to decouple from the DNO supply and go into island mode **once a loss-of-mains has been detected**, so a wee bit misleading. They're not the first to try this nonsense tbh.

    If you only have a single phase electricity supply and put these in could you then run three phase machinery directly off these batteries?

    • @protectiongeek
      @protectiongeek 2 месяца назад

      Assuming you intend to only charge the batteries from your grid supply, it really depends whether the system would charge with only one phase live (from its point of view). If the other two phases appear to be 'missing' my guess is it would probably not interconnect as it would see only one phase live as a fault.
      If the chosen device (and your installation) was suitable for operation in island mode (aka "off-grid"), then I would say that you could run 3-ph equipment from the battery source BUT it depends what _kind_ of 3-ph equipment you intend to operate. Some loads presenting things like starting currents for rotating machines can be rejected by inverters as they are incapable of delivering the necessary fault level unless they are significantly over-spec.

      I was quoted the following, from a local company in California, on the Solix X1 with tax and labor:
      3 battery modules for a total of 15 kW : $20,450 USD before tax credit or rebates
      4 battery modules for a total of 20 kW : $25,600 USD before tax credit or rebates
      6 battery modules for a total of 30 kW : $35,900 USD before tax credit or rebates
      1 power module only has a load start capability of 70 LRA so it will not start up most AC units unless it has a soft starter.
