How to Replace the Zipper on Jeans - Secrets from a profesional tailor

  • Hello friends! In today's video, I wanted to show you how to replace the zipper on jeans. This customer had a small defect in the teeth of his zipper, while it is tempting to replace the slider, sometimes, the risk just isn't worth it due to the fact that there isn't a massive difference in the pricing and that the results wouldn't last very long. So I hope you found my process useful. If you did, please don't forget to give this video a like, comment, share, and subscribe! Your support means the world to me.

OMG - that's insanely beautiful. What a great job! Patience of a saint. That is a lot of steps. Plus, of course since you are a professional tailor, you are using a very strong industrial machine. I would love to have one. But I'll have to make it work with my home sewing machine. I don't think I could thread two threads through my needle though. I might give it a try just to see what happens. What a great idea.

    • @DowntownTailoring

Hi! Thanks so much 🥰 I would recommend to use a bigger size needle (size 16 or (18) to work on this kind of material. It will facilitate the job a bunch. Good luck 😊

I use a lint roller to grab those threads after seam ripping- just roll along both sides of the fabric. it does an awesome FAST job, lol- only leaves a couple of the more stubborn threads. Mind the fabric so you don’t accidentally ruin the seam allowance or fray your project.

Great job there! I wish I'd have watched it the whole way through because at the end you say about not sewing over the zipper. I had the correct length of zipper, but put it on the top first and ended up having to go over the zipper. But, it was my first time and I'm ecstatic that I replace a jeans zipper! Thank you so very much! I think it's more difficult to remove the old one than it is installing the new one. You're the best!

This is a much better way of doing it, thanks so much for sharing! Yes I currently do it the other way - I leaned it that way and never questioned it, but it always irks me that you can’t sew the ‘J’ in one go without sewing in part of the under flap with it, so you get a little curved line of sewing on the inside (which wasn’t there in the original jeans). It seems so obvious now I’ve seen you do it - I’m totally converted, thank you!!
