    This would be the last time the audience would hear the innocent voice of Judith Barsi. Before this movie premiered, she and her mother were shot and killed by her jealous father. The saddest fact about this movie is that the little girl who voiced Ann-Marie (Judith Barsi) was murdered by her father not long after doing this movie. Bluth stated that he intended to feature Judith extensively in his future productions. So the credits song "Love Survives" was dedicated in her memory.

  • @DanGamingFan2406

    Definitely one of the best Don Bluth films. And believe it or not, this movie was originally going to be a lot darker. You can tell there was supposed to be more between where the car started moving, and when it flew off the ramp. Also, Charlie's dream where he's in Hell was going to be a lot more intense, and Carface was originally going to use a machine gun instead of a ray gun. You can even see where they didn't change the lipsync.

    • @osmanyousif7849
      @osmanyousif7849 Год назад +2

      Not to mention the 2nd act of this movie was very off. Because, one moment you have Charlie saying that he's going to get revenge on Carface for trying to kill him, and the next you have him building a casino WITH HIS NAME OVER IT. I mean, what happen to trying to keep a low profile, especially since before this, it's established that Carface still thinks Charlie's dead? If anything, building a casino is going to tip off that he's still alive and Carface will figure out that Charlie has Anne-Marie. I think this was done however because the 2nd half of the movie has more focus on Anne-Marie, and someone didn't know how to get from Point A to Point B, therefore they wanted to have their cake and eat it. But it still leaves with the plot becoming muddled.

  • @SpacialRend7

    Interesting fact about this film, several scenes have been notably cut down due to scenes being too scary for kids, similar to The Land Before Time. The entire Hell sequence has been unveiled from someone recording the footage and posting it for the world to see some time ago (and probably can still be viewed). The huge devilish creature had a line saying “now you’re mine” and laughs evilly. So yeah, now you know how dark these Don Bluth films can be.

    • @osmanyousif7849
      @osmanyousif7849 Год назад +5

      Also, the scene where Killer says he has a gun was original going to be a Thompson Submachine gun (Tommy gun), but they re-edited the shooting sounds with "ray gun" sounds. Also, I think those apple's at 25:46 was probably going to be Charlie's blood, especially paying attention to the way the scene looks....

    There was once a time when Don Bluth became better than Disney. But when this movie was made, Disney also made The Little Mermaid, and they were back to being to kings of animated movies, going on to make Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King.

For what it's worth, however, people started to warm up towards the film over the years and now it's included in one of the classics made by Don Bluth, and sadly, it would be the last one to do so for years to come as he would end up getting into all sorts of executive meddlings for his next 4 films.

    One of Don Bluth’s classics is incredible. Due to this movie’s dark nature, it’s entirely different from Bluth’s An American Tail and The Land Before Time. Great job covering this underrated gem, Nick!
    This movie was up against Disney’s own flick The Little Mermaid back in 1989. It stood no chance in the early days of the Disney Renaissance Era.

    This was sadly Judith Barsi's last film as a voice Actress. She voiced Ducky in The Land Before Time. Her abusive alcoholic father killed her and her mother in a murder suicide. She was 10 years old.
    The film qas dedicated in her memory.

    Holy smokes… I’d been wondering if you’d seen this movie before and just waiting for a video to eventually pop up. Your timing for this reaction is perfect, but also unfortunate. My 14-year-old dog died last week Friday, and I had her since puppyhood. This is one of my favourite animated films ever. Now I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to watch it again 😞💔🐾🐶

    One of my favorite and most nostalgic Don Bluths. Musical fans complain about it because Burt Reynolds really wasn't a singer but it has a lot of redeeming qualities anyway. Two bits of censorship made this movie a bit confusing. They removed the visual of Charlie being hit by the car on his first death, and the ray gun was originally supposed to be a tommy gun because that scene was supposed to show Charlie was invulnerable because of his watch. And supposedly the original hell scene was even more terrifying but that didn't do anything to confuse the storyline

    There is an easily overlooked detail right in the end and it's what Charlie says. He says that Carjack will be back. Consider this, Charlie believes that in the end even Carjack will redeem himself to make it back to heaven.Had anyone else said that, you could just brush it off as wishful thinking, but it's Charlie who believes that his murderer will make it back to heaven.
    That Charlie redeems himself is a nice message for a movie, but if Carjack can make it back, means that everyone can redeem themselves.

    I wish Soul had this sort of ending. You know, just a little smile of acceptance as he goes up to the light and is gone. Bringing someone back after that sort of thing, especially as a "reward" when death is not supposed to be such a bad thing, it just rubs me the wrong way. Let characters who willingly die for a good/important/whatever cause just die already. They've done their bit.

    As for the sequels, I have watched the first one many years ago. As far as I remember it was fine and had at least one musical number that I still remember quite well to this day.
    The one scene I do remember really well is the intro sequence since it is actually pretty sweet.
    I think there are more sequels and a TV show, but I can't say anything about those.
    But at least for part two I would indeed enjoy watching a reaction to it.

    This movie was one I wasn’t allowed to watch when I was young, probably due to all the content towards the beginning, so I’m glad to see an adult visiting this rollercoaster! It’s got a lot of surprising character and depth with a typical amount of Don Bluth zanny-ness!

    But honestly, my 2 horror-scenes that really kinda scared me as a kid were the one nightmare-scene because of the sounds - and also the final scene when the clock sinks down under water and the black bubbles come up - idk what it was about this scene but it scared me so much, I hated it x__x
    I still feel weird when I watch this scene - it's better now though :P but still.... the music is just intense.

    Love Survives was not originally written for the movie. It was added before All Dogs Go To Heaven was in theaters. Judith Barsi starred as Anne Marie and in 1988 her abusive father murdered Judith and her mom in cold blood. Judith's father later killed himself within days of killing Judah and his wife. one time there was a death in Judith's family before she died. The mom had a family member die. Her husband Joseph hid the letter letting her know so she couldn't go because she didn't know. Some years before their deaths Judith starred in a true crime movie about a man who murdered his wife and kids. Scarry considering what happened.

    It was the last cartoon movie that didn’t care about being a good role model for kids with the gambling, smoking, drinking and controversial humor during the first song. But that is what makes this movie a treasure. This movie was originally intended to be PG because Hell was going to be scarier but the studio wanted it to be more kid friendly so they made Hell a little less scary and because of what happened to the actress of the girl they changed it to a ray gun instead of a machine gun. I wish they stuck with the PG rating because that would have made this movie more popular.
