  • In this video I use Nikon's Pixel Shift technology for some close up product work, tethered with NX Tether and NX Studio. I review the resolution improvements and assess the noise reduction options in NX Studio.
Thanks for checking out the video!

Yeah the ability to drop the noise floor and increase resolution will work very well for that use case! Thanks for checking out the video and taking time to comment.

@jonneave olympus M1iii for now. And many Nikon's, but I've been waiting for good reports on Nikon's pixel shift before investing in pixel shift Z body.

I have the E-M1 iii as well. Olympus went mainstream much earlier than the competition. Nikon’s approach looks good though I’ve seen some reports that show it doesn’t handle movement artifacts as well as say the Sonys. Hopefully Nikon will iterate their algos and make improvements here. Thanks again for checking out the video.

Thanks for comparison to the pixel shift between Z8 & Zf.
As I heard a lot of Nikon users said that, in term of the manual focus performance with manual lenses, Zf has better usage experience than Z8.
Will you consider to make an other deep comparison on manual focus with manual lense to Z8 and Zf?

Hey Vincent, thank as for checking out the video. In the video I explain and demonstrate the functionality of pixel shift. The functionality is identical between the Zf and the Z8 except the Z8 will produce higher resolution images than the Zf. I own the Z8 but sadly dont own a Zf. Maybe one day when they’re on a refurb sale….! And more sadly (for me at least) the Z8 hasn’t been updated with the manual focus functionality of the Zf. Maybe one day…! Thanks again for checking out the video!

When do you think the Z9 will get this functionality?

    • @jonneave

Good question! Nikon have been great releasing additional functionality to their mirrorless cams. Though they’re not transparent as to when they will release an update. Let’s hope it’s soon!

Just saw firmware 5.0 drop for the Z9. No pixel shift?!

Yeah it seems that way. I’m surprised it was not in the 5.0 release.
