Burton: “Burton’s Lifetime Warranty is one of the best in the business,” Burton: “However, after close evaluation, the issue with your bindings is outside of our warranty coverage period.” Me: Never give Burton another penny. See ya in Cali Small Claims Court. Me: LOVE my 2025 Joker Supermatics. Also looks great on my DanceHaul.
I think you are riding the Burton Stepon incorrectly - hear me out. StepOn is by far the most responsive even the soft version Genesis is very responsive but you have to understand them a bit more. Because of the heel cleat in the back (you are locked in from your heel) you don’t push your ankle forward like a normal strap binding when you turn on your toe side. You need to bend your knees and pivot a bit more on the ball of your feet -> you will feel the heel edge being picked up very quickly. SuperMatic and same as flow you need to run the bindings just snug (not too tight) in order for the Step in-out to work properly.
Thanks for the detailed look at step-in bindings, though I feel the video missed some key points that could help viewers make their decision. While you covered the customer service aspects thoroughly (which is valuable info!), I wish you'd gone deeper into explaining the actual riding differences between models and who they're best suited for. For example, saying Clew "doesn't ride well" without explaining the specific handling issues doesn't give us much to work with. Same goes for the Nidecker regular vs carbon comparison - what exactly makes that extra stiffness worth it and for whom? Your Burton experience seems quite different from mine tbh - my local Burton shop has been super helpful with testing and support. While online shopping issues are worth mentioning, maybe they shouldn't be the main factor in recommending against the stepons? Would love to see a follow-up video focusing more on helping viewers choose based on their riding style, skill level, and terrain preferences. All three systems probably have their place depending on the rider's needs. Hope this feedback helps with future videos!
I've been wondering the difference. I had the Gen 1 Burton and now Gen 2. Happy for the most part, but was wondering what else was out there. It doesn't make sense for me to switch to the Nidecker since I'm a few time a year at most novel rider, but I get that the full straps would help if I were more serious. Clew seems hellbent on going out of business. The Clew guys probably already made an assload of money, sold out, and are now focusing on blow and whores instead of equipment innovation. Can't say I blame them. But that's just a guess though.
I've watched more people struggle with the Nidecker than not. I am a Step on user, and I think RIGHT NOW it so much better than the others. I think the nidecker has promise, but I think people really struggle with it.
@@serbman9 Everyone ive asked said that wasn't true, they were constantly fiddling with them, but who knows...I don't have first world experience. It would be awesome if that were the case. Maybe those people didn't set them up properly...
you forgot about the K2 clicker XHB. I got a set of them for $230 US used boots were hardly creased... couldnt pass that deal and i like them alot better then the Step-Ons i tried a few years back
In torn. No idea if I should go with supermaticsnor step on. I have used switch step ins (with high back) for 25 years. Very similar to step on design. But, I want performance. Never had a strap binding in a LONG time so I have no idea what that will feel like
Hate to disagree with you, but I have found the Burton to be much more responsive than the Supermatic. I'm not an evangelist for the tech--people should ride what they like--but several reviewers over the years have remarked on how fast the response is on Step Ons.
Thank you for your review and recommendations now I'm going to buy the nidecker

Once you set them then you don't ever have to touch them again most people don't line up the straps properly on the boots

Union is releasing their version of Step On .... with some tweaks, so check it out

Burton service does suck. I walked into Innsbruck store. Their stock sucked and the 'staff' was indifferent - no one even approached me.
Clew also blocks people that point out issues and rely on paid promotion, they're a terrible company to deal with

I totally agree. The StepOn works a bit differently but once you are used to it they are so responsive.
With Nidecker and Clew you still have to tweak the straps
Once with the Nidecker. Big deal
Great video. I've been trying to reach Nidecker Customer Service, do you have their contact?
All junk . The new FASE is the winner.
