I can't believe it's been ten years since first saw a post of yours (performing "I Don't Know" in a small compartment within a pub somewhere)... I was hooked on your tone and musical style then, and although much has changed for you since then, I'm still impressed with your unique and purely angelic gift. her style of singing stretches her diction and makes it hard for even native speakers to hear. The first time listening to this song I could only catch every other word. i think it's a valid difficulty especially for those who have english as a foreign language. When I listen to songs in other languages it can be hard to hear all the words. It's actually not her accent that's causing trouble for you, most people lose part of their accent when they sing. I am sorry people jumped on you in the comments, It's ok not to be perfect at a language and need extra help. No one should be mean to those who want to improve and learn.

At first, your comment really bothered me but I think I know why you made it. Not understanding lyrics can be frustrating, however, your comment suggests that Lisa should do what a lot of other foreign artists have had to do to become "stars". Give up or change their own unique style of performing. For some artists, that just doesn't work (THANK THE MUSICAL GODS!). Staying true to their own originality means they are sharing with the world, exactly what they intended when they wrote the song. A strange example is Julia Michaels, who is an artist I consider to be as spectacular as Lisa. In the beginning, when I listened to some of her songs I had a hard time making out some of her lyrics because of the way or style she sings. But I would never EVER ask her to change her writing/pronunciations/diction/etc. I found it more satisfying from a music lover's stand point to study her music. I now hear and find inspiring, every lyric.
Part of the reason why mainstream pop, rock, country, folk, blues, (hell) ALL genres of music have become a mass production line of cookie cut "hits" is the way the industry asks artists to give up, set aside their personalities to fit in a 3 and 1/2 minute slot and sadly the artists concede and we end up with thousands and thousands of "meh" songs.
ANYWAY
I suggest you:
1. Buy ALL of Lisa's wonderful music.
2. Listen and re-listen to every wonderful song with a good set of headphones and you'll hear more and more of her lyrics shine through. It's well worth it!! Enjoy

Here from New York USA, I 1st heard Lisa Hannigan back when I saw the vid. for “Volcano” by Damien Rice & thought I saw her playing the Cello & was instantly more mesmerized by her than anything he was doing....most especially when the song “Cold Water” was introduced into the film ‘The Girl in the Cafe’ w/Kelly McDonald & Bill Nighy. There were a bunch of films/TV shows that introduced their music. I know the music was listed as his, being that it came from his album (which I never had), but I was somewhat miffed & disappointed that I never saw the credit for her & that every song I heard @that time her voice was always 2nd. Again I understand it was his album(s). But then a wonderful thing started happening in which I heard her solo angelic voice w/her own musicians. &I picked up her 3mainstream US albums & was not surprised that she was put 2nd B4 b/c she WAS the talent. In the US women are always struggling in the business & each generation there are a handful of women that open the door for others. Here I connected most w/Tori Amos b/c I'm a pianist as well & in those early days it led to Sarah McLachlan & others doing the Lilith Fair project, all of it 2get more female talent in mainstream music. I love that I found Ms. Hannigan, but I hate this slippery slope of talentless cr*p stamped out there, despite the internet, while talented women having little to no control over their music struggle 2 make it in the industry for all to hear! Thank you Lisa for your, I'm sure, hard work & lovely input into this «business». I can’t wait for this new album!
