The legendary founder of Washin-Ryu Karate, Master Hidy Ochiai came to New York in 1989 to teach a seminar. Here's an interview and demonstration with Master Ochiai.
I met Master Hidy Ochiai in 1974, at the boys club in Endicott, New York. I studied all he taught in one day, for many years and I have remained a logical- noncombatant throughout my entire life.
from 2:25 very wise words! I am, in my own eyes, a pacifist. But I also believe in what he's saying here. Avoid violence, but when there is no escape or better ways, one has the right to defend both yourself and your loved ones! :)
The school instructors stressed control. I trained there in Elmira and in Corning. The leadership there was very disciplined. That was NOT the case for Syracuse school. I went to that school one time and that was all it took for that. I stopped once I left the Elmira area.
It's been 20 years now,but I was one of his students. I'm born and raised in binghamton. He is a great man!

Could anyone tell me if there is a dojo affiliated with Sensei Ochiai in the New York City area?

lol, he mopped the floor with me one time b/c I was getting too cocky when sparring other people. Wish I could have stuck with it...
