    I think we can all agree Solo Piano is a NASTY BEAST! Even Bill Evans said it best to Marian McPartland, that he felt that he had a long way to improve, and this was AFTER he had recorded his first solo album which is ammmmazzing. Anyway, in this podcast I review the 7 most CRUCIAL elements to improving your solo piano and ensuring you're getting the sound that you want, dream of, and hear on albums! Enjoy!

    Harmonizing with the right hand!!! We would welcome a lesson on the subject, beyond the Barry Harris type of 6th and diminished scales. Thanks!!!!!

      My pleasure. I've done a lot of browsing for jazz piano instructional videos on RUclips, and your channel is by far the most structured and logical. So much random stuff out there. Thanks for posting these. They're gems.

    Love your videos. I am also a member of your school. You use the term shell quite a bit. What do you consider as a "Shell"?

    • @jazzpianoschool
      @jazzpianoschool  7 лет назад +1

      Alvin: thanks for your membership! Shell simply refers to the outer parts of the chord, hence the term "shell". So instead of playing 1,3 , 5, 7 for a major 7 chord, the shell would be simply 1 + 7. Another form of a shell is 1 + 3, or 1 + 10. Hope this helps!

    How do you create solo fills?

      Hi Daniel: thanks for watching! For fills, I'd recommend checking out some JPS blogs on the site that I recently wrote about solo fills in a brazilian setting, as well as in a straight-ahead setting: jazzpianoschool.com/fill-style-comping-part-1-oscar-peterson-its-only-a-paper-moon-comping-analysis/
