Nice espresso martinis, Nick!!! BTW the lighting is good. If I have to point something out, it’s that the right side of the screen (your left side) is a little dark.
I feel like you might need a second light on the right side of the video or bounced light from the light on the left of the video since the shadows on the left are a bit distracting.
looks amazing, and I'll be trying to make all three. Sad to see the sweepstakes is only available in the UK, the US and Australia. What do you and Mr. Black have against your Canadian viewers!? Guess I'll get back to figuring out how to build my own cold brew tower...
@GlockWiseSB There's definitely a lot going on that I'd do differently haha but if it works for his cocktail then that's all that matters! Main things are that he should've tamped more, should grind a little finer so it comes out slower (it was going a little fast) and instead of stopping the shot early, he should pull the full double shot then discard what he doesn't use, since pulling it early creates a "ristretto" shot and changes the taste of the coffee (which many people like but is different for sure).
Ok, I’ve loved you for a long time but THIS... this was the cherry on top for me. Thank you for your excellent videos. I had to comment. I appreciate your insightful, witty, top shelf style.
For the lighting: It is a little hot. The high lighting value that you have definitely makes things look a bit cinematic, or perhaps something for intense photography, but for this kind of educational video, it may be a little overly dramatic. The shadows are a bit harsh and the background is then very uniform. There were a few spots when your hand got close to the light source that the power of the light totally washed out detail due to very strong lighting. This may be because you are relying on one single source (+ambient) to light the scene, but you should look up 3-point lighting to help out with this and alleviate these problems. Use your fancy new bright light for your key light on your right side, have a dim fill light on the left side of your face, and then a back (or hair) light that shines from your rear three-quarter to create a halo around you and differentiate you from your surroundings. Granted, that might be a bit hard in an apartment setting, but might be worth a play around with. ruclips.net/video/vR_l1vTfaNk/видео.html For the cocktails: I'll take ten!
I would love to see a video about Caipirinha. It would be be very interesting seeing a "chemist" version of a such simple drink. Love the Chanel keep the good work.
Your Espresso Martinis are looking great! I love the cold brew coffee one! If you'll ever look for a fourth option, I once made a Kahlua&Coffe foam using a cream whipper (for an Inverted White Russian). Looking at your episode made me think that would taste sooo good with one of your Espresso Martinis!
I love to add vanilla or salted caramel vodka as well and instead of the simple syrup I'll sometimes replace it with frangelico. You can add or substitute a lot of subtle flavours in the this cocktail and they're all perfect.
bro, your dad jokes and your kind of humor really please me!! haha plus there's a lot of quality in your content, I always make the drinks. Thank you so much
I've been hearing such good things about Mr. Black, excited to get me some. That third one would definitely be the winner in my book, but all of them looked amazing.
The move with the lighting is going in a good direction. However your key and fill aren't well balanced. Whatever the source you're using camera left is a bit too hot and direct, it's especially pronounced on your hands/face which look a bit overexposed. Because the fill isn't really filling much, it's also causing things like a lot of cast shadows from your right hands onto your body, though it doesn't read most of the time due to the black apron. But it looks like the time with Skillshare is paying off. I'm glad to see creators who show interest in continuing to improve their content, especially by branching out into areas that may not be core strengths.
I've started using Mr. Black for my espresso martinis and they have absolutely turned out better than using alternatives. It's a great product for the price. My only wish is that they were retail around me rather than ordering online.
Since you asked about the lighting. I’d say the directional is WAY better than the simple two light setup. I think you could diffuse it even more though. The highlights on your face/hand for the “cheesy fake cheers” shot get a little blown out and over saturated. If you want to be simple about it, you could get a shower curtain or a 5-in-1 reflector (using the diffuser portion). All in all, the content is really good which is truly what matters! Thanks for the awesome videos. …one more thing. The tamper comes out of its place to put proper pressure on the coffee grinds. You can see the coffee flowing out super fast due to the loose puck.
I really like the quality of the lighting on the left side of the frame and it has some nice dimension, but I would recommend bringing up the right side just a stop so it doesn't feel quite as invisible (mostly for the sake of what's on the table). This would also help you balance the exposure so the whites on the left don't start clipping when you move your hand. Cheers Nick!
As someone that has been a barista and a bartender ahhhhh. It’s just your coffee skills that need improving I love your stuff. You should get a separate tamp for your espresso as it needs to be even and have a lot more pressure on the the grounds. For the cold brew system the filter goes under the coffee it is useless where you put it. Though that system makes the best cold brew. Also you should try using orange with coffee especially if your doing a dark roast. I want to say I do love your channel.
Thats some pretty sweet fancy dancy equipment you have going on there! I do have Mr Black at least and will settle with my Bialetti and my Keurig machine! Very nice martinis, one and all! Thank you
Hey man love the video! Cannot wait to make the first one this weekend. One concern though and this really depends on how much you care about your espresso, but you should definitely tamp it a bit more. Consider pulling out the tamper and tamp your grounds on the table. I think it will completely change your espresso game.
Damn! I subbed to your Channel couple of years ago when I was still in school and honestly forgot at some point. Now this popped up in my recommendations. Love to see that you stepped up your game and got more professional! Looking forward to catching up on all your videos with an Espresso Martini! :D
Love your content man! Just came from the negative comments video and it kinda boggles my mind that people would get so aggravated with such random aspects of your videos. Also kinda weird that there’s no winning when it comes to pleasing ‘unpretentious’ people or hipsters on the other side of things. Anyway love the new format and keep it going.
They look amazing and it reminds me of "cafe del tiempo" in Valencia, Spain. Coffee, ice and a lemon slice (to drink in the hot months) But the fast, cheap and alcohol-free version!
Absolutely lovely lighting. If it was a warmer shade of white it would definitely make you feel like you're in your bar, getting a lecture from your local bartender
I adore espresso martini. My absolute favourite cocktail of all time. But to be honest, pro version isn't something I would enjoy as a fan, since this is a hot version. Would love to see over the top cold recipe as well!
i like to toss a few pieces of orange peel into the grounds when doing a bloomed cold brew, it works really well. it's not sweet, it just gives that citrus oil note.
Oh nice, an espresso martini recipe. Perfect to finish my bottle of St. George's NOLA coffee liquor. Currently I've been using it to spike my morning cappuccinos brewed in my Bialetti
A few goods ways to make an expresso Martini and you also give me some good idea for a future cocktail!! And you make me laugh so much with Homer 😂😂 cheers!
I was pretty serious until the "Turn the spout for about 4 drops every 10 seconds." I just exploded into a laugh at that. It's so fun watching someone having as much enthusiasm for beverages as me. Thank you mister Chemistry!
You should learn how to use the espresso machine. You called for a double shot but the machine was sent for a single shot dose. You tried to tamp the grounds while the tamper was stored in the machine. You really cannot get a good tamp like that. The tamper is stored in a magnetic slot. Merely pull it out and and tamp while the portafilter is resting on the counter. You need to push rather hard with the tamper, and then use the razor to level the grounds. All of this is covered in the instruction book that came with the machine.
The new lighting setup is interesting, but it looks like it's coming at you from only one side. If you can do a little more fill lighting, I think it'll look aces.
If you like the lemon flavour with your espresso martini you should definitely try to make one with "Qahwa Gin 1528". a spain/belgian gin infused with cofee/chocolate and yuzu. Just perfect for my taste. Love your videos btw. very good stuff :)
Actually lemon and espresso is a classic pairing called an Espresso Romano, which really wakes you up in the morning or chills you down if it is in the coldbrew martini version😋😋
I love your channel and despite being a bartender for about two decades I'm usually in awe of your third level drinks. But this time I'm wondering why you wouldn't shake the cream since it then won't have to be whipped so hard and in my book will combine better with the rest of the drink.
The lighting is looking great but you should get another light source for the right side. This is because shadows are visible so it throughs off how the video looks.

James Hoffman is crying seeing him making the espresso 😂
because of the way he tamped (for example)
When I saw the extraction by volume indiscriminate of coffee-in, rather than pulling a proper shot and measuring out from there 🤦🏼♂️

lol in fairness there's not much point trying to perfect the art of espresso if you're gonna dump kalhua and vodka in it
i was gonna say the same thing

Love Mr.Black. Went to an Espresso Martini masterclass with them last year (in the before covid times).
When Cocktail Chemistry takes on the "Ex"presso Martini, you stop everything you are doing and watch. My daughters formula can wait. 🥃
I love Expressos 🤣
Love it, lost count how many times I've said there is no S in.....well you the idea 🤣

I used to use those cold brew drips for tea at a restaurant I worked at. They're incredible.

I like the new lighting. I like very much that you used an actual espresso machine outside Italy to make actual coffee.
I'm digging the new setup. I love how you're always playing your production, in the videos and in the thumbnails. And it always works.
Love the new lighting, great contrast! Crazy what the right lighting can do to a scene
I can't 'esspress' my gratitude enough for these recipes...I'll show myself out.
Two thumbs up for the new lighting! Warm and diffuse lends to the atmosphere, and *almost* makes us forget you're standing outside your kitchen :)
