If I had a nickel for every time that a channel tried to create a Thomas series based on Tugs I have two nickels which isn't a lot since it happened twice first with Victor Tanzig and now The American 8F
Tbh, Eric did make a good point in regards to getting water from the river, it was just that his crew forgot to check the water for any fish, and I bet that it would've worked out fine for Eric had he not had fish in his tanks
18:36 I’ve been seeing a couple of posts about this clip on X/Twitter so I wanted to offer my thoughts. I watched the whole episode and thought it was solid. Very clearly inspired by Tanzig (great for you if you enjoy his videos) and similar concept with two rival companies on Sodor mixed in with real world history and inspiration from Tugs for the tone and some concepts. But when I got to the scene of Jeffery + Douglas talking about what would be current events unfolding in Germany during this stage, it felt like it crossed some lines. Historical accuracy and sensitivity to the severity of the events discussed. Assuming this is set in 1933 when H-ler is elected (January 1933). Since Jeffery made the comment “you’d think he’s the Emperor of Germany” I guess kind of implies March 1933 after the Enabling Act allows him to seize absolute power as Führer. Then we get to the part that’s why this has been going around X. The facts are: -The first camp to open was Dachu, also in March 1933. -The main purpose of Dachu was to hold cultural and political prisoners. No death camps at this point in time. -Many of the early camps were improvised. But Dachu became the model going forward. However, Douglas’ line and the image of Auschwitz on screen is where we get problems. -Auschwitz was first operational in May 1940 (after outbreak of WW2) -Knowledge of the camps was barely known to the outside world even in Germany (i.e. the secluded locations of the concentration camps and how strictly the propagandists like Gobbells kept the realities hidden from the German people) and the states annexed/invaded by the N*zis. No one in 1933, when the first prison camps opened and when groundwork was laid for the enactment of the Final Solution into the Holocaust would have had that knowledge. Especially not engines in England or on Sodor. I also kind of felt Douglas said that line far too casually which I believe a source of a lot of the Twitter upset. I completely agree, given there were no content warnings at the start. Not just for making a RWS or Thomas inspired series, but for any work of fiction that references the Holocaust, you have to remember that there are people affected still alive today. If you get stuff wrong, people who aren’t educated about the Holocaust may hear of or experience works of fiction with errors and therefore be wrongly informed. For such dark and real world subject matter (a real genocide) to be mixed with a property originally for children, of course a lot of people are going to be sensitive about that. People do look to the mostly bright and cheerful source material for escapism - as was The Three Railway Engines for many young children after the war ended in 1945. That’s why Mattel shut down HiT’s “The Adventures of Thomas” movie that was to be set in WW2. That’s why I think most “darker” fan works aside from the few that break the mold remain taboo. It can be done but extreme sensitivity regarding historical events MUST be taken. If that’s the direction you’re taking the series with real life history, that’s commendable. I’ve always been of the view (furthering my point of escapism) that different fans enjoy and create different types of fan works. But real world history should be relevant to the story or have genuine reason to strengthen the world around the characters - not be name-dropped because it sounds cool. I don’t think this is a deliberate case of ahistoricism. I’m sure your intentions also weren’t bad, but since there’s so much discussion about this part of the episode I felt this needed to be said. I really want to see you improve and I wish for success for your channel. I think if you can diversify your music and make sure all historical details are researched and verified, then you’ve got great potential in your future works. All the best and thanks for reading to the end if you did.
@@furnessespeon I made a mistake on my previous stories. If you watch my most recent story, I corrected my previous statement. But to confirm. The year this episode takes place in in 1935.
How many engines you can found will be participated in the future stories . I found three , alice , duck , and Arthur . Alice will be predicted she will be introduced in another future story that the America 8f will do , duck's story will we have very high chance of a rewrite to link up the future projects , as for arthur , that was the plan for the next story as i guess . (Will the America 8f will also consider to rewrite Dudley's story to inplement or connect the future projects , i don't know , it is his choice after all.....)
About Dudley no. I’m not gonna do any stories with Dudley. I tried to rewrite him once, but that turned out to be a bad idea. I just put a picture of him for a cameo.
@American8F, you should of also mentioned Catholics and Christians. We also suffer greatly under Hitlers rule. We had a Catholic Pope, assassinated under Hitlers rules. Our sufferings however are not as mentioned, because we’re a popular religion now.
@ Thank you. I’m not trying to come across as an ass. I just wanted to remind people that all religions face persecution. That should never be forgotten. Forgiven yes. But forgotten no.
Heres a theory: Arthur is the unlucky engine, why? Because at the end of the episode we can see Arthurs papers clearly and by what it says “but he is a disaster on wheels” and also he has had 50-80 accidents in the 3 years of his working life, Arthur has been reassigned too many times and what i can read hes been with 10 other controllers.
So I will say the same thing I've thought about the same episode that deals with this same plotline. How did the fireman not see a fish in the bucket as he was pulling it up or holding it? Never liked that plotline, never made sense to me.

Eric and fish is similar to Thomas goes fishing
If this series takes place in the 30s its worth a mention that the Ivatt 2mt (what arthur is) doesn't come around until around until 1946

27:16 Jeffery’s wheels are still turning even tho he is stationary
So Douglas is female in this universe and called Emma? Nice take on the character.
I wonder how Arthur and Eric will bond are friendship as they’re very similar in design.
Was not expecting this episode to turn into Eric goes fishing. His voice actor sounds like the garbage tug from tugs
Hang on, I didn't quite get this until now but are Donald & Douglas replaced by Emma and Elise?
Why was Peter not allowed to talk to other engines?
You do know that barrow and sodor are in Cumbria right so its not all that far
What's Eric based off of an LNER V3 not an L1?
Why was Arthur’s maintenance and Tending in another language?)
