Ultimately it's ALL about how this contrived narrative plays with Western audiences and whether popular consent for war can be successfully manufactured as earlier with both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Common here - it is a good thing that they are downplaying it and saving a bit of face. Specially in that famous interview, I think they did - unlike DW - an excellent job. U can see on electronic intifada what a massive blow it was. On the other hand I want to start a trial case against DW - which I used to love - for constant supporting genocide. The Iranian Empire began in the Iron Age with the rise of the Medes, who unified Iran as a nation and empire in 625 BC. Persia is today the country of Iran. Persia (modern-day Iran) is among the oldest inhabited regions in the world. The history of Iran is dating back to 4000 BC. The Persian Empire is the name given to a series of dynasties centered that spanned several centuries-from the sixth century B.C. to the 20th century A.D. The first Persian Empire, founded by Cyrus the Great around 550 B.C., became one of the largest empires in history. By the 5th century B.C.E., it was the largest empire the world had ever seen, surpassing the size of their Assyrian predecessors. In 539 B.C.E., King Cyrus decided to expand the boundaries of Persia. He began by conquering Babylon. Unlike Assyrian kings, Cyrus was known for his mercy rather than his cruelty. He allowed the Jews/ Hebrews, who had been captives in Babylon/Iraq for over fifty years to return to the holy city of Jerusalem, instead of turning them into slaves. He returned sacred items that were stolen from them and allowed the rebuilding of their capital and the temple. Cyrus also allowed the Hebrews to continue living and worshiping as they chose. The Jewish prophet, Isaiah, called Cyrus "God's shepherd," and said that "God would go before him and level the mountains." Israel and Iran should live peacefully together based on their past history and relationships. Just like Ukraine became America’s proxy in Eurasia, Israel also became a proxy for America in Middle East. Both country being used by the United States to preserve America’s interests in the region. It is a stupid thing to do and a grave mistake by both Ukraine and Israel. “The greatest enemy will hide in the last place you would ever look.” - Julius Caesar 44 BC
The first civilization in Iran that we know of was Elam, which started shortly after Sumer. The Elamites spoke a language that was completely different from Persian, Sumerian or Semitic languages though.
Is there any doubt in your mind, that bully tactics are not what's currently being applied by the US for many decades now? Rules based order is puerly a propaganda tool, the meanest and most savage super power, with the deadliest weapons, is ruling the world... up until now. If you want to hold your own in this world, you gotta be one tough mofo, and Iran seems to have understood that, as did Russia.
Iran only has to sink the US Navy's last remaining "Oiler" in the region to cripple them. A nuclear powered carrier can go a long time without fossil fuels but it's aircraft and support fleet can't. They've damaged their one in the Red Sea and have only one in the med.
Do you remember the Germans used to hit London and the British reported that the rocket missed their targets so that the Germans would change their trajectory. Now is different where GPS and satellite play a significant role and the accuracy of the Chinese is much spot on than US GPS.
I too thought you overreacted yesterday but the more I listened saw it as a demonstration of your passionate belief in the subject of neutrality! Take care 👍
These are multiple-stage rockets, as the propellant is burned and expended, the structural “dead weight” of the empty tankage is discarded, thus making the entire rocket more efficient. The discarded parts are still burning as they fall. They're not being intercepted by iron doom or any air defences.
Focusing on competing narratives is worse than useless. This is because it keeps one anxious and impotent. The key here is to work on alternatives that are positive. For example, as I watch my daily videos, I multitask by shucking beans. (I grow a lot of our food.) When I am out of beans, I go out to the garden and do my other work. As a retired person, I still ltry to work 3-5 hours per day during the season. In the off season, there are other activities. Don't get caught in believing that what politicians and pundits say means something. It doesn't. It is all about their actions. If the US government thinks Trump will win in November, they will start a regional war because populations are usually unwilling to change governments during wartime. If Harris leaps ahead in the polls, then the US will postpone the regional war until after the election. I live in France and those of us in Europe are relatively safe compared to the US and the Mideast. I say "relatively."
Thank you Pascal. There's Jeff Sachs, John Mearsheimer and Scott Ritter. Have you tried to get Scott on your vidcast? I'm certain he would be appreciated by your audience.
The use of the word "landed" is to try to explain that a missile got through, but we're not admitting it did any damage. Remember when a Rocket intended to launch a satellite explodes. It's described as an "unplanned rapid disassembly".
"Even without nuclear weapons." The Iranians were enriching to 60% back in April, and at that point their "breakout time" was a couple days to a couple weeks. Iran has nuclear weapons. There was zero reason for them to hold off making a bomb. There's no benefit to being conciliatory or to being"the adult in the room" when you're dealing with Israel or the US: they'll just perceive it as weakness and fear.
The 40 odd thousand refers to the ones they have collected the bodies and names of. There will be many, many more still buried under the rubble. Totals of over 200,000 are likely.
Personally, I find it unlikely that Iran would strike the oil production facilities of other regional oil producers, such as Saudi Arabia, etc. If they were to do this, they would trigger a massive conflict between those nations and Iran (which would greatly inflame the long-standing Sunni and Shia animosities); also, Iran relies on economic and political support from China and Russia (Russia also supplies military equipment to Iran) and is a member of BRICS+, and Iran striking the other regional oil producers would not be viewed with favor by China, Russia and the majority of the rest of BRICS+. Iran striking the other regional oil producers would be tantamount to declaring regime suicide. Iran might prove me wrong, but I find it unlikely that they will carry out this threat.
An excerpt from Japanese media says "The damage was limited due to the inability of Iranian missiles to target their targets accurately and Israel's world-class air defense system being effective."😂 I read it as "we never thought how freaking accurate Iran's missles are!"
Very on the Israelis side of the story, Iranian attack was a total failure and there is no need of retaliation. We the Israeli government tell us that if the attack was unsuccessful? Why would they attack Iran when they failed? Action and reaction 1 and 2. Stay tuned.
It's crap. This was supposed to be the Iranian answer for the decimation of its proxies . What it turned out to be was a touch me not message . That's it.
If you were watching live video, as I was, people were saying Tel Aviv was being struck. I was anticipating a much more serious and immediate response . Later, I found out it was military targets. That, of course, changes things.
Mearsheimer is an ultra nationalist going round the world to justify and prop up the US ruthless hegemony as the liberal hegemony with fanciful names like realism and liberalism. Even if it means wiping off humanity from planet Earth.
Pascal, If you want clarity and an understanding of what is going on, do not bother to read and quote biased MSM such as BBC and CNN for a start and further more (if you can) invite the Israeli journalist Gideon Levy and the Iranian academic Prof. Marandi for a dicussion.
Iran doesn't have escalation dominance though, as it lacks nuclear, let alone thermonuclear weapons. However, you could say that because the level of escalation from the highest conventional escalation to nuclear escalation is so high, Iran has "local" escalation dominance, while Israel has "global" escalation dominance. This is because Israel offers fewer targets for Iran to concentrate its long range arsenal at than vice versa (due to the relative sizes of the countries). The assumption in this argument is though, that Israel can't offset that imbalance by Israel having way more such long range assets that can penetrate Iranian air defences.
*A long history of divide-and-rule/conquer.* The people of the Greater Middle East, including the Levant (most of whom are Semites, and the followers of Abrahamic religions) have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common. Strategically ambiguous rulers make use of this, for own advantages. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople, then during WW1 the seat of POWER playing these games changed to London/Paris (Sykes-Picot/Balfour Declaration/WW1), then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, starting around the time a bark by Washington DC in 1956 (Suez Crisis/War) showed who the new boss was, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC (the entire ME was the playground during the Cold War). Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the ME, in order to "rule" over the dissent which is classical "divide and rule". Today, their leaders are ALL tools. Draw lines on the map without asking any of those affected. Endless wars, constant dissent. Divide and Rule. Oldest trick in the book... Who wields the POWER? Who has had (in all historical cases in the ME/Levant) the GEOGRAPHICAL ADVANTAGE of being able to reach all the other little buck catchers (tools, and other Roman-era style instruments of POWER), but could not be reached itself, because of a geographical-, technological-, organizational-, military-, strategic-, political advantage at any given point of a historical timeline? Same types of people and systems. Different times. Same games. ------------------------------------- The people of the Africa have been "divided and ruled" over by outsiders for centuries. Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common. Strategically ambiguous rulers make use of this, for own advantages. In the era of empires, first Rome/Constantinople in North Africa, then during the era of Western imperialism the seat of POWER playing these games changed to the USA/Europe, then after the 1950's as European colonialism's power decreased, Africa was the "playground" during the Cold War. Moscow was taking on the role of arming the resistance. Once the dividers have reached peak power for themselves, by simply drawing lines on the map without asking any of those affected (Congo Conference/1884) so the own systems of gain can siphon off wealth like a giant vacuum cleaner. The intention was simply to avoid unity in Africa, in order to "rule" over the dissent which is classical "divide and rule". Today, all African dissenters, including some of Africa's own greedy corrupt leaders, are ALL tools. Endless wars, constant dissent. Give them money, and they will dance for the dividers... Divide and Rule. Oldest trick in the book... Four corners of the globe. Different rules. Same games. -------------------------------------- The people of the Americas (most of whom are Christians), including the USA, have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries. Because it is easier to divide people based on personal differences, than it is to unite them, based on what they have in common. In the beginning stages of era of European Imperialism, first Spain and Portugal entered the Americas, employing the divide and rule technique of top-down power on the local systems (Aztecs/Incas), then after 1900 as European colonial powers' influence decreased, the role of divider was simply taken over by Washington DC. As the own power increased incrementally, the entire world became the playground after around 1900. _Today, it is the globalists who employ imperialist tools to play divide and rule games on their neighbours._ *Forget "nukes". The "divide and rule/conquer"-strategy is the most powerful force on the planet, because it can be used invisibly in times of peace, AND in times of crisis and war equaly.* Ever since the two-faced "snake" slithered down that tree of unity (fable), speaking out of both sides of the mouth (lies, deceit), human beings have fruitlessly warned and have continuously been warned, against "divisions" within a peaceful status quo. Such divisions create GAIN for OUTSIDERS (Eden as a "system" divided by lies and deceit). Now the intention is simply to avoid unity in the Americas, in order to rule over the dissent which is classical divide and rule. Endless wars on anything and everything from "drugs" to "terror", constant dissent with everything's a war war war... Insert levers of lies, mistrust... Create favourites: favouritism, by granting access to the own POWER, to those who volunteer to act as proxies... Point the systemic finger, everywhere else, by use of the own paid stooges of power... Divide and Rule. Oldest trick in the book... *In February 1948, George F. Kennan's Policy Planning Staff said: "[W]e have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. ... Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity."* [Critical question: Who is "we"?] And that is what they did. And that is what you are fighting for. America's friends and self-proclaimed default rivals in Europe are still being burnt to ensure this disparity continues, with a "pattern" of alignments which are beneficial to the own rule. Set up European and Eurasian nations (including the MENA region) against each other. It is how divide and rule is implemented. The imperialist playbook of Great Britain and the USA for more than 100 years. Read Halford Mackinder (Pivot of History, 1904) and Zbigniew Brzezinski (Grand Chessboard, 1997) regarding Eurasia for the template. That is what empires have always done. Create the default rival/enemy on their own marching routes. It is usually the power most likely to succeed which is determined as the default rival/enemy. Notice how, as soon as a rival starts mass-producing products high up in the value chain of capitalism, and starts vying for markets, and becomes successful, it immediately becomes the systemic rival, and is then geopolitically encircled by the greater empire. It happened around 1900, as Germany started building high-value products, and it happened around 2000, as China started moving away from building cheap toys and labor intensive kitchen appliances... The games start on the home turf. The first victims are their own people, locked in the eternal struggle for wealth and personal gain which they have been deceived into thinking is "good", but which WILL be exploited by the snakes who deceive them in the divide and rule technique of power. Because ..."most of the great problems we face are caused by politicians creating solutions to problems they created in the first place." - Walter E. Williams *War is a great "divider." It goes straight through the heads of millions and billions of people from the very top tiers, right down to the individual level. War divides alignments and alliances, goes straight through organizations, divides political parties, tears through families, and finally at the very bottom tier, goes straight through individual hearts and minds as individuals struggle with themselves.*

It is serious crime under ICJ and a couple of media owners got death penalty for cheering genocide.
Needless to say that it is disgrace of journalism to support genocide, apartheid and settler colonialism.

It was quite interesting watching you get hysterical on seeing Israel attacked by Iran compared to never seeing you hysterical throughout a full year of Israel committing genocide. Interesting indeed.
After all, this is neutrality studies. /s
Because the odds of a major war in the region and possibly the world have just gone up dramatically.
That's not true. He has been reporting very criticalally of all wars. His hysteria was because he was worried the lunatics of Israel and US will escalate to world war.

The Elamites spoke a language that was completely different from Persian, Sumerian or Semitic languages though.
good reporting/analysis given current information
Israel is desperate for escalation.
John's Foreign Policy is "Bully Tactic".

These are multiple-stage rockets, as the propellant is burned and expended, the structural “dead weight” of the empty tankage is discarded, thus making the entire rocket more efficient. The discarded parts are still burning as they fall. They're not being intercepted by iron doom or any air defences.
Good analysis
Thanks for the excellent analysis.
PS: to get something clear when reading western media one has to resort to a kind of philological analysis.
There's also no point in having nuclear weapons and not deterring your enemies with them by demonstrating that you have them.
Israelis killed tens of thousands and some argue 100-200 thousand.. not "tens or even hundreds" as you propably purposely claim!
At which point excessive "self restraint" starts to be perceived as "weakness"?
He’s talking about number of deaths in individual strikes. Calm down
The 40 odd thousand refers to the ones they have collected the bodies and names of.
I don't understand why would Iran risk an all out war for Hezbollah and Hamas? They have to be a financial strain for Iran.
An excerpt from Japanese media says "The damage was limited due to the inability of Iranian missiles to target their targets accurately and Israel's world-class air defense system being effective."😂 I read it as "we never thought how freaking accurate Iran's missles are!"
Even though they demonstratees their accuracy by hitting a US occupation base in Iraq 4 years ago.
That's it.
Thank you
If you were watching live video, as I was, people were saying Tel Aviv was being struck. I was anticipating a much more serious and immediate response . Later, I found out it was military targets. That, of course, changes things.

Using John Mearsheimer as a reference is a big mistake.

The explosion in sky is the separation into multiple war heads.
I've never read anywhere that Iranian IRBM have multiple warheads.
You are as clear as MUD
Professor Marandi is Iranian not Israel obviously!
For how long Hezbollah, Iran practice caution⚠?
The Palestinian who was hit was hit by an interceptor not by part of missile, doesn't work like that.
Missiles _landed_ is not a euphemism, though. Observe the use of "landed" or "made landfall" re "meteorites".
*A long history of divide-and-rule/conquer.*
The people of the Greater Middle East, including the Levant (most of whom are Semites, and the followers of Abrahamic religions) have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries.
Same games.
-------------------------------------
The people of the Africa have been "divided and ruled" over by outsiders for centuries.
Same games.
--------------------------------------
The people of the Americas (most of whom are Christians), including the USA, have been divided and ruled over by outsiders for centuries.
_Today, it is the globalists who employ imperialist tools to play divide and rule games on their neighbours._
*Forget "nukes". The "divide and rule/conquer"-strategy is the most powerful force on the planet, because it can be used invisibly in times of peace, AND in times of crisis and war equaly.*
Ever since the two-faced "snake" slithered down that tree of unity (fable), speaking out of both sides of the mouth (lies, deceit), human beings have fruitlessly warned and have continuously been warned, against "divisions" within a peaceful status quo.
Kennan's Policy Planning Staff said: "[W]e have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. ... Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity."* [Critical question: Who is "we"?]
And that is what they did.
Williams
*War is a great "divider." It goes straight through the heads of millions and billions of people from the very top tiers, right down to the individual level. War divides alignments and alliances, goes straight through organizations, divides political parties, tears through families, and finally at the very bottom tier, goes straight through individual hearts and minds as individuals struggle with themselves.*

update: according to the highly dependable substack of "simplicius", iran did indeed forewarn the united states of the impending attack on israel - again. as a result,
all of israel`s most valued assets (F-35s, etc.) were airborne at the time of the attack, including israel`s whole refueling fleet. therefore, any claims made by iran that
any F-35 aircraft were destroyed in strikes on nevatim air base are - unfortunately - not only fraudulent, they are deliberately misleading on the part of iran.
