      I'm hoping they're going to release a poly analog version of one of these. If they did that they would sell a lot! Cuz Dropbox has got that new Jupiter style $600 desktop. I mean they should be able to pull this off. If they were smart I'd be interesting if they did some more specialty products in this line like granular synthesis etc I mean they would have a big market if they entered this boutique into the modern era.

      The only analog boutique sized module they released was the SE-02 and it was mono, I just hope if they were to release future boutiques like a JP-04 or other past synths, that they release fully polyphonic ANALOG boutiques at the same price as the SE-02, going back and re-releasing old boutiques doesn’t make business sense (except for the early models, I mean cmon man 4 voices??) now that I think about it, a re-issue of the Jupiter 8 synths with a built in Jupiter 4 engine, 8 voice polyphony would actually fly off the shelves

    After having watched both the JD-08 and the JX-08 I'm still pretty excited about these new releases. However having both a JX-03 and JP-08 I'd like to say that usability would increase 10x by growing the size of the boxes. Why don't you go for 19" rack width with the option of adding rack ears to them? With a little bit bigger space and nobs (and 43 cm instead of 30 cm) it would be a lot easier using these boutiques. And hey, you skipped the pitch and modulation bars and upgraded to usb-c (which is good since micro-usb was never really fool proof), so I believe there would be a much bigger market for these gadgets by just increasing them in size to a boutique mark 2.
    And this would open up for a full-size keybed of 2 octaves or 3 octaves for the mini toylike keybed (which are really hard to use for someone who is used to play synth or hammer-action keys) and the missing pitch bender. Improve the series by making them a little more user friendly, please!

    • @Ferrichrome
      @Ferrichrome 2 года назад +9

      A rack format would be great for a lot of these boutiques, they feel just a little cramped for their large feature set.
      I prefer what Korg does. If they make a small synth, like the Monologue, they usually make it simplistic to match, which makes it a powerful little box that is quick to use. Same thing with the bass station 2. This thing unfortunately has the negatives of being both small and complex to program at the same time.

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 2 года назад +8

      @@t55a2 Of course they are an option, but a midi keyboard won't increase the size of those tiny slides and knobs. I've used a JX03 in a live situation and it:s not very user-friendly.

    Easily most interesting thing of all Boutiques. But it outgrew the format probably. In order to unfold its full potential you'd have to use external keyboard and probably even something like Faderfox. I wonder if they could release it as 49 or 61 full-size version with some longer throw faders.
    Behringer CAT's faders seem longer than these but still unusable. Every time I wanted to buy JP-08 or SE-02 I remind myself of that.

      Don't think there were faders on the SE02, but your point is taken on the size. I liked the sound of my SE02 a lot, but the lack of class compliant USB audio was enough of a bummer that I parted with it. Mobile format hardware synths should be able to connect with phones and tablets IMO.

      @@Leviathan-mj8gi I don't have judgement on the usability of this device as I haven't used it, but to those suggesting mapping a midi controller ... if I'm going to map a big midi controller I might as well just use the JD-800 in roland cloud.

    Question, Does motion record support external midi cc?
    Lets say i wanted to use microkorg as keyboard for this and also sequence microkorg from track b, would i be able to wiggle filter on microkorg and record it?
    Another point, very nice touch having individual step length! Is it possible to change step dividers per track, eg. 1/8 on track b(8bar) and 1/16 on track a(1bar)
    Please please hurry this to retailers, would love to wiggle it around christmas, rather than wait til january. 😁

    Looks and sounds good. Now: where's the backward compatibility? Five-part multitimbrality? Where are the SL-JD80 expansion card waveforms and patches? Where's the proper one-sound-per-key "Special Setup" for drums? And above all else, where's the JD-series SysEx compatibility? Seems odd to have crippled such a potentially powerful piece of kit.

      @@garygood6593 Yeah, the original JD-800 has 5-part multitimbral functionality, including the "Special Setup" patch that allows a different sound with different synth parameters on every key.

    • @maxhult830
      @maxhult830 2 года назад +1

      @@msld_sound That's actually EXcluding the Special Setup. So 5+1 parts. But yeah, I don't get why they massacred it in that way... was it the cost of 128 voice polyphony? If so, wrong choice imo. 128/4 = 32 voices for a single 4-voice patch... How do you even use that? Except ambient stuff with Release Times of 100. At first, I was like, yay 128 voices now I'll have enough for all Parts... oh... right, ALL two of 'em. If there's no SYSEX I couldn't even program it externally with my OG JD-800, what a bummer... And why NONE of the expansion waves? Seriously, come on, memory isn't nearly as expensive now as back then, so WHY the heck not?... Had they pulled it all together with this one as PROPERLY as the JD-800, it would've been an instabuy for me. Now, no way. Come on Roland, get your sh*t together!

    A problem I've been having with the jd08. When controlling the unit from my DAW I can't seem to use the arp. If I switch on note mode the arp works. I'm using the usb midi, there definitely is a difference it has more layered octaves and switches on the drone but no arpeggio .
