    Ciao Stefano! Interesting that YT recommended me this video. 11 years later and now I am flying the same exact aircraft and flying the same airfields as you were doing here!

    Great landing . Always wondered what one could get down and stopped in real world testing... 1600ft... not bad at all. Way better than the p180 manual says lol

      Hi Stefano, I think you would be better off in Italy things are very expensive out here in Melbourne, we will be in Italy in the second half of September mainly in the north, I have a friend who lives in Genova who I have known since the 60's, take care.

    It looked like there was no flare just before touchdown. It seemed more like a carrier landing where the plane is flown at constant speed into the runway, with the gear designed to absorb all the vertical energy. The Avanti gear looks stocky and tough, but I guess it is meant to be.

    • @StefanoCaporelli
      @StefanoCaporelli  Год назад +2

      Exactly, well spotted! I did not flare at all with the yoke, I did just a little correction a fraction before touch down (see the yoke moevements). But there is an "auto flare" function in the P180. I' m kidding, but when you cut the throttles the P180 rises the nose automatically due to the pushing propellers (vice versa when you apply power the nose goes down). Compared to standard aircraft the pilot flares less on the P180. Anyway, this is a short field landing (short for a P180) and I was tought to do so by Piaggio test pilots during a couple of hours of short field ops training. On normal runways, lets say longer than 1400m, the landing is slightly different and closer to standard aircraft.

    The music is good option for this video! Do you like this aircraft ? What you prefer jet or Avanti?

    • @StefanoCaporelli
      @StefanoCaporelli  9 лет назад +1

      I love this aircraft!!! :)
      For sure jets are way easier to handle than the Avanti (and than any other turboprop). I think I would prefer jets only if we would talk about aircraft starting from the Lear 60 and above...

    its impresive that it can stop at that distance, but can it take off in that distance too?

    • @StefanoCaporelli
      @StefanoCaporelli  9 лет назад +3

      it depends on weight, usually for take off it needs more distance than for landing...

  • @2018paulrobbinx
    @2018paulrobbinx 6 лет назад +1

    The Avanti is pretty hard to handle from a pilots prospect right?

    • @StefanoCaporelli
      @StefanoCaporelli  6 лет назад +2

      for low experienced pilots it's not the easiest aircraft, that's sure. But I can't say it's hard to handle. Like any other aircraft, you have to know it and fly it as it is supposed to be flown. And never compare the Avanti to any other aircraft, because it's different. The only difficulty I had at the beginning was the handling on ground, where the Avanti can be very tricky, expecially with cross winds, due to the steering system (improved with time but still tricky compared to other aircraft I flew). Landing on short fields (I mean short for the Avanti) requires time, experience and training. The aircraft has high landing speeds (full flaps Vref at MLW is 125kts), has no antiskid (Avanti I and II, the Evo has it) and reverse must be operated smoothly due to the aerodynamic effects on the rudder (risk of loss of longitudinal control). Due to this reasons operating the Avanti on a 1000m runway could not be the easiest thing in the world. In the air the Avanti is simply fantastic, and feels like a fighter. It climbs fast, flies fast, it's very stable, and reacts promptly to pilot's inputs. I simply love it!!!
