5 unpeeled apples

Broccoli Soup:
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup diced onions
1 cup shredded carrots
2 1/2 to 3 cups broccoli florets, chopped
1 1 /2 cup chicken broth
1 cup milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
pinch of red pepper flakes
1 to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Directions: In a large pot over medium heat, melt butter. Add in onions, carrots, and broccoli. Cook to soften. (about 5 minutes)
Slowly add broth, milk, and cream. Sprinkle with flour and add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Continue stirring and heating over medium heat until thickened. This will take about 10 to 15 minutes. Once thick, add cheese until melted and smooth.
BUTTERHORNS:
Mix together 2 1/4 teaspoon yeast and 1 Tablespoon sugar.
Beat 3 eggs. Add 1 cup warm water. Add yeast and sugar. Stir to dissolve.
Let the mixture stand for 15 minutes.
Add:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon salt
5 cups flour
Knead well. Cover and put in refrigerator overnight.
The next day, divide into two parts and roll out in a 13" circle. Spread butter over the dough. Cut each circle into 16 wedges. Roll up the triangles, starting with the wide end. Let rise for 3 to 4 hours. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
PIE CRUST:
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 1 /2 cup shortening
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon white vinegar
Mix flour, salt, and shortening. Add water and vinegar. Roll out into thin circles. *Makes 4 pie shells.
BROCCOLI SALAD:
2 bunches broccoli, cut fine
1 head cauliflower, cut fine
1 lb. bacon, fried, crumbled
2 cups cheddar cheese
1 small onion, chopped
Sauce:
1 1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup white sugar
1 1 /2 cup salad dressing or mayo
1/2 teaspoon salt
Combine sauce ingredients and mix well. Pour over broccoli mixture and mix well.
CHOCOLATE MOCHA PIE:
Soak 1 tablespoon gelatine in 1/4 cup water.
Heat:
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
1 1 /4 cup milk
1 teaspoon instant coffee
Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add gelatine mixture. Cool. When starting to thicken, add one 8 oz. cool whip and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Pour into baked pie crust. Sprinkle shredded chocolate over the top.
LEMON MERINGUE:
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 1 /2 cup water
3 egg yolks
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/2 cup lemon juice
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix sugar and cornstarch in medium saucepan. Gradually stir in water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir one minute. Slowly add egg yolks. Boil and stir for an additional minute. Turn off heat and add butter, lemon juice, and peel. Pour into baked pie shell. Heap meringue on top. (recipe below) Spread meringue over the hot pie filling, sealing it to the edges. Bake 5 to 7 minutes, or until the meringue is a delicate brown. Cool away from draft.
MERINGUE RECIPE:

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
6 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Beat egg whites with cream of tartar until foamy. Slowly add sugar and beat on high until it is stiff and glossy. Beat in vanilla. - Хобби
All these beautiful homemaking skills that have been lost on most of today’s youth makes me sad. Your care and attention to detail for your home making is a beautiful virtue, Mary. Thank you for sharing💕
This was a truly enjoyable trip to your kitchen. I have things to do, but found myself watching to the end. Loved watching the food come together, and the fact that you provided recipes is just a bonus! Thank you so much for whatever effort this all cost you. You are hardworking and deserve whatever income comes your way. The "difference" in your videos is the values behind them--I think that is what draws your viewership. I don't know if I have ever heard how you came to create The White Cottage Company, and if it existed well before RUclips videos became a "thing". Anyway, Blessings to you and your extended family, the animals too!
So true and you wrote that beautifully. I can't agree more. Mary, you are amazing, as always! XO
Amen!
So peaceful and inviting to her channel!
Well said Hannah. Couldn't agree more. Mary I love the music you play with your videos. Sometimes other channels play such annoying music that is truly distracting. Happy New Year! God bless you and yours.
Your pies are just beautiful 😍
Good question, maybe an idea for a vlog!
Hi, you are a very talented and resourceful lady🤩You go about doing all that you do do in a calm and assured manner. Kn
Owing exactly how you want it done, from crafting, to gardening, to decorating and then onto baking and cooking🥰 You are very talented💖
Mary, try adding a teaspoon of cinnamon to your chili. You won't really notice it, but it just adds a little something. Looking forward to another year of your videos!
Or a little cocoa is great in it!
You are right you can't taste it but it make a great difference.
Agree!
I started adding a spice called garam masala, which has cinnamon in it. Really good.
Oh I am so glad to see what is my favourite Amish dish - that salad of broccoli and cauliflower! Yumster!! Every Christmas I go over to have lunch at my daughter's house, and she always requests this delish salad.......
Merry Christmas Mary!!!❤ Thank you for all the yummy recipes, everything looks so delicious 😋
Love this video!!!❤
Love the idea to leave the pie crust bits for the birds 🐦
Does anyone know how long you would bake the scraps? I'm looking forward to trying it.😊
@@carolgarnaat6715 I would bake them until they start to turn golden, 10-15 minutes would be enough
@@nanchesca3950 Thanks!
Family, sharing and giving is what Christmas is all about. Thank you Mary.
Lemon meringue is my favourite pie too John. Merry Christmas and a happy new year Mary. Thank you for sharing your life with the world on you tube. It brings me so much joy and comfort watching you go about your day/life. Stay safe.
OH my a big yes for lemon meringue pie or just about anything lemon !! So nice your family went on a trip. That place you stayed at was soooo nice !! Thank you for this video Mary. Wishing you and your family a blessed New Year !!
Mary, thanks so much for showing us your pre-Christmas travels! My old stomping grounds! I lived in the country down there between Cambridge and Wheeling WV. Went to Oglebay many times. Used to shop in Cambridge and to a lesser extent, Barnesville. Did my heart good to spend time with you this morning:)
Oh, how I wish I could cook like you. Everything looked so good! I ordered soap from you for all of my girls. 4 of them and put it in their basket of different goodies. They were the favorite!! Even the guys loved them. They kept smelling them. What a joy to find something they loved so much! I showed them your Etsy shop and utube channel. I think you have a few more fans. Thank you for your time and care you share with all of us.
It’s such a wonderful feeling when smells take you back to your childhood and amazing that it doesn’t matter how old you are. Stay safe and have a blessed new year!
Lovely, just the way things should be over the Festive Season, good food, family and close friends. What a blessing and privilege to eat good food and to be happy and contented.
Holidays are a lot of work but worth it when we all get together
Love your utube channel. Please let me know when your sister cook book is ready I really want one. Thank you.
I love the sound of your Christmas Day with your family.
Love your dads new car .
You know you’ve found a fellow Ohioan when you hear them pronounce 🍅 tomatA!! I love it! Reminds me of my mother. I grew up on a farm in southeastern Ohio and thinking about my mom canning “tomatas ”and hanging the “warsh” on the line are lovely memories!
(I hope this comment isn’t rude. Definitely NOT my intention!) 🙂
Loved this video! You make everything so special for your family! I’m a huge soup lover and I can eat it all day long and be happy! Love you! 🌲🌲🌲
Mary you inspire me. Because of putting love into every thing you make!! But most of all your love for our Heavenly Father... Love all you do because and if Uribe had been around before rheumatoid arthritis took my decorating hands I would make everything you make... Not wanting to sound like I'm wanting sympathy but that's not it all... God blessed me with it so I would be able to stay home with my 2 girls and you know what we didn't miss the money because instead of stopping to picking up pizza we learned how to make it and we grew stuff in the garden and I learned to can and freeze everything we grew!! God sure blessed me!! So I will continue to watch your channel and see what you do next ...God bless you and your family! 🙏
What wonderful food for family and friends Mary!! What a beautiful inn to stay in!! Thank you for your wonderful videos throughout the year! Happy New Year to you and your family!!
That soap slicer would come in handy when cutting cheese. It is so nice to have help in the kitchen.
The farmhouse and barn with the silos were picture perfect. Beautiful. (When you were showing your dads car)
You are such a comfortable traditional cook. You know what I think you deserve in your kitchen? A beautiful, fully restored Wedgewood gas oven/stove. I bought this beautiful 1924 home which looked like it had been stored in a time capsule with very little use. The Wedgewood was in pristine condition and was my favorite thing of all! Beautiful white enamel, lots of special components, and the ovens cooked with remarkable accuracy. I miss it to this day.
Thank you for the recipes, Mary! ❤ Please, let us know how we can purchase Marlene’s cookbook when it’s available. I love to cook and bake so good food is right up my alley. 😊
Oh yes me too, can't wait for her cookbook 😊
Me too!
Me Too!!
Mary, Happy New Year to you and the family! All the food looked so good. The family time is so enjoyable! Thank you for a year of awesome videos! 🤗
I could never get the zigzag to look good on my pies! I'm going to try the way you did it. You made it look so easy!
Love your videos!
Everything looks so wonderful Mary ❤ Everyone getting involved and having lots of fun.
What a treat to have a family crust recipe and to pass it on ❤I will be trying it for sure!
You have definitely earned some down time after all of the wonderful dishes you made.
I really hope all of your family had a fabulous time together & wishing you all the best that 2024 can bring.Happy new year Mary,John and Boys and extended family ❤ & pussy cats.
What a wonderful video, Mary!!! Although I am not the least bit surprised, as I thoroughly enjoy each of your videos. Am from around the New Wilmington PA area, and even tho I have chosen to call NC "home," my heart still belongs to the rolling hills of the country side in PA and Ohio! I am so glad you share the blessings of your heritage. God bless you and yours as you continue sharing White Cottage Company with your "wanna be" followers. I have been so inspired by you and your family. HAPPY, HEALTHY, and RICHLY BLESSED NEW YEAR!
Those pie’s looked so delicious you are a good cook everything look so good
Hi Mary, wondering if you’ve ever seen lemon or orange candles. It would be amazing to see you make some. I’ve seen lemon lavender ones, I’m sure you could put your own spin on it. It would smell amazing and would be sustainable and eco friendly 😊 Thank you for sharing your Christmas video. What an amazing time you and your family have 🎉🥗🥕🍜🫖🎄 wishing you all the best in the new year 🎉🎉🎉
I live just outside of Barnesville! I live on Captina highway , just around the turn from the Amish produce auction. Most of my neighbors are Amish. We have become family! I bought my place from them. I live in a barn that I converted into my home. I've been to the festival of lights more than once lol! It's really neat to see the area with which I live in, through someone else's eyes! Thank you for sharing this! We would make great neighbors!
Mary I love watching you cook . You make fried chicken like my mother used to. We are actually having her funeral on Friday. And my heart hurts for her. I miss her so much. She was 89 years old and my best friend. There were twelve children and mom spent a lot of time in the kitchen cooking. She never needed a recipe book and was the best cook ever. I wish there was such a thing as smellavision so I could smell your chicken frying. I appreciate your channel it’s calming for me and right now I need all of that I can get. Thanks again Mary you are a beautiful lady inside and outside ❤
Hope you enjoyed coming to Cambridge and Barnesville. This is area I live . Hope you liked Theos , we aren’t fan of their food but lots people are. Thanks for sharing all your recipes. They look great!
I love watching your videos. You get so much work done and stay so calm it is inspiring.
I love that John is helping with the food. I love lemon meringue pie but it is lots of work.
I love my WV. Such a beautiful state. Looks like such a fun holiday. Definitely going to try some of these delicious recipes.
Thank you Mary for a fun video. I enjoy all your videos, and I'm constantly amazed by the things you accomplish. I really enjoyed seeing your Dad's 68 GTO! I have my Dad's 67 Mustang Convertible which we have restored and drive only on sunny summer days! Old cars are so much fun. Hard to believe these cars are considered "antiques"! It makes me feel old!! LOL Thanks for all your decorating inspiration. Your home is so warm, welcoming. and cozy. I also enjoy seeing your Kitties and the love you have for them. I'm a kitty Mom too! I wish you and your family a happy healthy New Year. God Bless 🐾
Mary,
I enjoyed seeing all the different recipes you made for Christmas preparations and your family celebration.
What a great idea of using the roasting pan to warm your chicken for the next day!
Thank you for all your inspiration! 🙏🏻🥰
Add a 1/4 cup of mild salsa. So good. My husband is a professional singer for AZ Dickinson Carolers for 17 yrs now. We travel all over AZ for hubby singing career. So fun. Last Gig was in Prescott, AZ lots of Victorian houses..so beautiful.
Your Dad's cars are fantastic! I always show my husband he's a big car guy.
I always really enjoy your videos. But for some reason I found myself sitting in my lazy boy watching you working in the kitchen, and all of a sudden, I realized I was rocking away, so relaxed! I never rock in my lazy boy (always in the rocking chair in my kitchen). I was so comfy and relaxed! Thank you for that. It was just what I needed. I and my oldest son love lemon meringue pie. I always put a little extra sugar in the filling to take the tartness of the lemon out of it. My very favorite pie is coconut cream. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all your family!
Back in the 1940-50’s, they called gelatin mixed with fruit and/ or veggies…..A SALAD.
Very informative and enjoyable video. Happy New Year to you and your family Mary 🎊🎉
You are such a blessing to this world!
Your family is blessed, your subscribers are blessed, and even the little birdies and Kit-Kats are blessed!
You seem to have found the perfect balance of being "little Suzy- homemaker" and an entrepreneurial career woman! (With state-of-the-art techno-skills!)
Wishing you and yours a healthy, prosperous New Year!
P.S. I know why you and your family left the Amish order.
(It was because you & your family wanted to race those kool vintage cars up & down the road!)
Mary, lemon meringue is my favorite too! Seeing how it’s also Johns, I am going to share with you my grandmothers secret. Use milk. NO water. DELISH.
I enjoyed this as cooking and gardening is where my heart is( you won’t find me sawing wood or thriftingha). That’s how I make my fried chicken too!
This was a great video! I loved all the cooking. And that GTO project should be exciting. Also, thanks for sharing that Victorian house. Wow! It was amazing!
Thanks, Mary, for always sharing your life with us! So happy that you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and a fun adventure to Wheeling and Ogelbay! Your videography is always amazing! Happy New Year and a blessed one to you and your family!

I am absolutely mesmerised Mary the way you attend to those piecrust. Look so pretty. I called this dedication. I would just leave it without the frill edging because I am too laizy😊. But as they say you eat with your eyes too so your pie would go done so fast. Thank you for sharing. Truly you are a very special person❤🫂. Wish you and your family a Happy Healthy New Year🎉🎉🎉. Thanks for this dose of sweetness over the holiday week! I admire your pie production tremendously. I can only imagine the amount of work and love that you put into them; I myself baked a few batches of cookies over Christmas and called it done.

Please pass the pie. 😋 So much love in your cooking. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Particularly enjoyed your music selection in this video.
Hi Mary, All the best for 2024. Great video, now I'm hungry. I was wondering what you do with the chicken once you fry it and put it in the roasting pan. Are you basically using that as a container to store and heat it or do you add anything else? It looks delicious and I'd like to try it. Sometime the best recepies are the simplest ones. Thanks for sharing the video.
Mary you are so creative! Love this video very comforting to watch you prepare dinner for your family ! 😊
Wow I would love to stay at that Victorian home!!!
I would love to see a video of how you organize your pantry/fridge.
Everything looks delicious.. I can almost smell those rolls ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing your Christmas with us! I particularly enjoyed seeing the Victorian BnB and your dad’s classic car. I have those interests/hobbies as well and I’m inspired to add a few new touches to my BnB this winter - thank you for the inspiration. I appreciate the inspiration and motivation I get from you for my little RUclips channel Karoleena’s Cottage! Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your family! 🙏🎄❣️🏡

You are so talented…❤
Last summer, my husband and I spent about 10 days touring in Ohio. Have you ever gone to Mosser Glass Factory near Cambridge? We really enjoyed it. The woman there recommended Theo's Restaurant, which we thought was great. Their fresh peach pie was amazing!!! We might have to make Ohio a yearly destination just to eat at Theo's!!!
I am glad you had a wonderful Christmas!!! Happy New Year!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! You are so amazing in everything you do!♥️🎄♥️
Thanks Mary for such wonderful ideas and recipes. I have tried several of the recipes over the years an have never been disappointed with any of them. Your family are an Inspiration of what a family should be. I feel that the family unit is slipping away in America. Watching your family having so much fun is a breath of freshness and delight. My family is some what like yours in that we all have so much love and fun together . God bless us this year with all of our Immediate family to be together. What a wonderful time we had.
