There is a line in The New Frontier where Batman states he adopted Robin and a new costume, specifically because he realizes he was scaring kids. He says something to the effect of "I set out to scare criminals, not little kids". Its an interesting parallel between that book and this.

    • @kimifw58

Batman likes children because he's a kid at heart. Also, scaring children isn't good when you're trying to save them from burning buildings and such.

I think it would’ve been better if the “final ghost“ was scarecrow rather than the joker. Have joker be still the final villain, but have scarecrow and joker somehow working together. That way, those visions that Batman sees make more sense. And it would work better thematically.

@@BrendanJSmith three things with this. 1. As to where this lies in continuity ( I know it’s non canon but bear with me) it would take place around a couple months to maximum a year after Jason Todd’s death. If I remember correctly, Nightwing was still doing stuff with the Teen Titans and plus I don’t remember think Dick forgave Bruce for firing him yet. If I recall correctly he really didn’t until Tim Drake became robin. The whole reason Tim became robin was because Robin was the good nature that kept Batman’s pessimism in check, and Bruce was without that for too long. 2. In every version of A Christmas Carol I’ve seen minus Scrooged, the ghost of Christmas past was always a woman. And 3. I think the playfulness dynamic works better with Selina instead of Dick.

Again this to me not only shows why Linkara is the master of storylines but why this one is by far the best he's done because of character moments like this: seriously Harvey at his grave is by far one of the most emotional moments outside of a Pixar movie I've ever expierence and always gives me a sense of sadness and then joy seeing it play out. Really excellent acting from Linkara here and honestly the simplicity of the scene makes it work way more. You don't need a bunch of people playing out: all you need is Harvey and the person Harvey feels represents what he no longer has, and finally coming more to terms with that. Just great great stuff man and really wanted to sa ythat here.

I think it makes sense that, as Bruce's parents were killed by a desperate messed up criminal degenerate, he SHOULD have a problem with all criminals, big or small. He SHOULD be unsympathetic, regardless of the situation, as he's out there every night obsessing over his one unhealing scar. Every one of them would remind him of the single criminal who robbed two people in an alley; The quote: "One that got away".

I tear up every time I watch the Harvey Finevoice Carol. It's an incredible story and in my opinion an excellent take on the formula. This time after watching it I had the completely obvious but beautiful insight that "Just because he can't be your son doesn't mean he can't be your family". In the words of Harry Dresden: "When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching -- they are your family."

I really like what Linkara did with Harvey that year...I especially love how he fights against the trope of the Christmas Future angle; very Whoovian in my opinion.
I even like that Harvey sort of has had the existential revelation, but it's not what he's afraid of. He's not afraid of his own death; he's afraid of the death's of others.
Truth be told, I especially like the dialogue, because I'm the guy who really sympathizes with Scrooge all the way through. Scrooge knows his past; it MADE him who he is - so throwing it in his face just seemed kind of cruel. Having to face every single mistake you've ever made, or worse, every happy-memory of a bygone age that can never be reclaimed. In fact, I'm almost certain that "The Past" angle was invented purely for the audience - it's how WE learn about Scrooge as a character and grow to sympathize with him. But imagining actually have to live through the experience; remembering your childhood with a hateful father, losing the love of your life by a simple mistake, and the death of his sister...

The first version of A Christmas Carol I grew up to was Mickey's Christmas Carol, and I was later introduced to a lot of other adaptations, like the one from 1951, the musical from 1970, The George C. Scott version (one of my favorites), The Muppet version, the Flintstones version, the Patrick Stewart version (another one of my favorites, because I watched it over and over again to the point where I memorized the dialogue), and the Disney version starring Jim Carrey.
Also, I year after Linkara first posted this video, I was able to get my own copy of Batman Noel on Amazon, and I'm damn glad I did. Thanks for the recommendation, Lewis.

4:34 Well... Christmas Carol is a horror story (if you take away all christmas and jolly part) and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come can give a run for Pyramide Heads money.
13:58 Hell, Batman even tried several times to reason with Joker and to help him. And not only Joker.
BTW, that's why I really like B:TAS, he was so... humane there. But starting with TNBA he became more and more gruesome (but still retain some of his humanity) and ended up as an old grumpy Bruce of Batman Beyond, who lost all his friends and didn't bother about anyone.
17:47 You should have mention my favorite B:TAS episode, "I Am the Night", where Gordon was shot because Batman was late for police assault on some goons and Bruce just simply lost it. He tear down his whole Batcave and questioned the entire point of his mission.

I'm here revisiting this take on a Christmas Carol, and even now, I still get teary-eyed.
I lost my mother to what was essentially an accident, when throughout the day on December 27, 2014, she kept drinking alcohol and forgetting that she took her doses of medicine that staved off her alcoholic cravings, which she was diagnosed as a recovering alcoholic (She wasn't an abusive kind of alcoholic, she'd be more likely to sit in the corner and sip from a glass than get angry).
I was the last person to talk to her, in which she said I was her favorite of 5 kids.
That night, when she fell asleep on the couch, her heart slowed to a stop. Her brain cells died within 10 minutes after that, due to a lack of circulation.
The next morning, which was my little brother's birthday, I was the first to see her body. I still remember getting an eerie feeling when I saw her gaping mouth, thinking it was like some black hole.
I didn't realize she was dead, and just wanted to get on the computer that was next to the couch she was sitting on. After waiting a while, I got on anyway. When my little brother got up, he was initially mad that I was on the computer while she was asleep, then started to freak out when she realized she was dead.
After that, it's all a blur of talking to police officers, a funeral, the burial, being with extended family that I've never met before, and all the while sitting around in a numb haze, only actually breaking down when my hardass dad, who was tough and had a tour in the marines before my oldest brother was born, broke down and hugged me and my little brother, openly and loudly sobbing at his loss.

mst3kharris it was several years ago, so we’re getting better.
I should’ve put some kinda disclaimer about all the coincidences involved that just add to the tragedy, though.
What are the odds that my mom died 2 days after Christmas, and we found her body on my little brother’s birthday?
Evidently, the odds were high enough.

My top favorite version of the Christmas Carol.... 3. Scrooged (with Bill Murray) for its metacommentary not only commercialism but on the Christmas Carol's ability to be endlessly interpreted and still be creative 2. The Muppet Christmas Carol for a lot of the same reasons you said. 1. A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott and David Warner.

Kinda surprised Linkara didn't point out Superman's suggestion that Batman should actually show his face to the people of Gotham, only for Batman to retort his face isn't bullet proof like Superman's (also the line bugs me as it seems to ignore Superman has a civilian identity & most tend to view Clark Kent as his true identity & Superman is just his public superhero persona! Sure, Superman doesn't hide his face as Superman & Clark Kent may seem like flimsy disguise, but compared to Bruce Wayne, a mild-mannered newspaper reporter isn't as recognizable as Bruce Wayne is whom most people would recognize if he ever revealed his identity)! Additionally, Bruce could face legal liability for his vigilante activities (a perfect example can be seen in the Batman Brave & the Bold cartoon where the show's incarnation of Batwoman was forced to quit her vigilante career when she was unmasked by a villain, so Bruce Wayne runs the risk of getting arrested should his identity be revealed (such as in The Dark Knight Returns)! Sure, Batman can do good as Bruce Wayne, but as Noel shows, he doesn't have to reveal he's Batman to do it (just as Clark doesn't have to reveal he's Superman & let's be real, Clark probably wouldn't face anything beyond presumably being fired from his job (as his secret identity as Superman could be seen as a violation of journalistic ethics), but it is unlikely he would face jail time given I doubt Metropolis' taxpayers would want their city's savior imprisoned (even if Lex Luthor and/or Lex Corp would be glad to foot the bill to construct a facility to hold him, or their happens to be a Phantom Zone projector that authorities have access to deal with any surviving Kryptonians (including Superman & any his Kryptonian relatives should they go rogue)!
Bruce Wayne's wealth makes him a target for lawsuits & there are likely plenty of crooked lawyers willing to sue him & Wayne Enterprises (as they could be held liable due to most of Batman's gadgets & tech originating from Wayne Enterprises R&D)! Also, Bruce Wayne is mostly viewed by Gotham as a playboy billionaire & though he is philanthropic & charitable, some might view his crime fighting as someone wealthy beating up the downtrodden or a rich person just playing hero! Others might also question his sanity if they realize the murder of his parents is what drives him to become Batman! There are many ways Batman revealing his identity could backfire & there are plenty of criminals in Gotham who would likely lose their fear of Bats if they knew he was Bruce Wayne as they would know he is mortal & would likely lose their fear if they knew Batman was Gotham's billionaire playboy! Heck, some such as the Penguin would take advantage of the situation as Penguin would likely take advantage of the feud between the Wayne & Cobblepot families to paint Bruce in a negative light! Ultimately, Bruce Wayne wearing a mask as Batman makes sense as Batman is meant to be a symbol & like Batman pointed out, his face isn't bulletproof & despite all his tech, gadgets, intelligence, & years of training, Batman is still a mortal human & a bullet to the head is more than capable of taking out Bruce Wayne!

Though the Muppets Christmas Carol was one of the first time I've ever seen the story the whole concept is something I always enjoy watching it never feels overdone are played out to me because I like seeing each reinterpretation. In fact my new favorite version of a Christmas Carol comes from my little pony, a hearthswarming tail even has an interesting twist to it where the Ebenezer Scrooge character is actually getting ready to cast a spell that would remove the holiday all together in the three spirits show up to show her how bad an idea it is, not just in the fact that it's a great holiday and you wouldn't want to get rid of it but with the holiday actually has magic to it that helps protect the land.

So glad you're putting these up here. Lets me make a playlist and binge watch. This was just a great episode and the adaptation was well done. Loved seeing some backstory for harvey and why he sticks with linkara and all. Just a great character and psudeo 'father figure/big brother' for linkara. Seen it before on ya site a year or so back, and had go back and listen to the song cause youtube's easily exploited copyright system. Tnx again for the uploading here and keep up the great work. =^.^=
