      Jeni Pereira There are inconsistencies with that, though, in the guide to the code, when the kits drowned, they appeared to Graywing as adults, the cats they would have become had they lived.
      And I think it was said in an interview that cats appear in Starclan as they did at their happiest point in life.
      Starclan is just really confusing to think about sometimes.

    Respectively I must disagree. I think people work in the land of the dead because they want to. They take pride in what they do and like to help others. Some, like the performers, are probably thrilled to get to work with the greatest 'whatever' that ever lived.
    Personally I would like to work in the Department of Family Reunions. Bringing families together would be a rewarding way to spend my afterlife. That or a wig shop. Wigs are fun

    I think that the offerings left on ofrendas are used as currency. This explains why they declare what they got when they return to the Land of the Dead, and why well-remembered skeletons (de la Cruz) are so much better off then those being forgotten (Hector and the others living in the slums).

  • @HaakonHawk

    Here's an idea for you; How does *age* work in the land of the dead? Since you even touched upon that in this video.
    Like, is their age based on how old they were when they died? This can't possibly be the case. Since the majority there are seemingly young people. All of them couldn't have died young.
    Yet, Coco herself seem to be as old as she was when she died. How does this even work?
    This is way more confusing than the job issue.

      Pretty sure it has to do with the photo that is put up on the ofrenda. Unless, of course, the person does not have a photo on anyone's ofrenda. Then I think it may just have to do with the age they were when they died.

    • @HaakonHawk
      @HaakonHawk 6 лет назад +16

      KeyJKandy - I was thinking the same thing. But in that case. Wouldn't there be conflict for Coco? Since she technically has 2 photos of her up on the ofrenda.

    • @KeyJKandy
      @KeyJKandy 6 лет назад +21

      HaakonHawk I think if the person has their own singular photo, it cancels out a group photo. Or maybe an adulthood photo cancels out a childhood photo.

    Wait wait wait, how come most of Miguel’s relatives look so young when they are in the land of the dead? They couldn’t have all died young and the twins couldn’t have died on the same day? But then Miguel’s great grandma was old when she died? Maybe it depends on the picture they put up???

      Just another Lazy Trash Panda, that's what I thought too until I remembered that those relatives would have been dead before the baby was born and, depending on when the baby was born/died in relation to the day of the dead, might not know of the babys existence at all! then, one day, this random infant appears and they are expected to take care of it for up to 80 years until the parents die! Unless of course there is a job in the land of the dead to take care of dead children, but this would create a lot of problems if in fact they do age. Having them not age at all would create even MORE problems! (who wants to be a baby/take care of a baby forever?)not to mention the fact that you are basically screwed if you die a child since the fact that you never got to live your life will lead you to be way less likely to be remembered at all!

    I always figured there was some kind of reverse aging process for people who died of old age. Like there’s nothing to imply any of Miguel’s relatives besides Hector died of old age but they all appear as middle-aged adults, but when Coco appears (presumably soon after her death) she appears as an old woman. Plus almost all of the residents of the land of the dead appear as adults

    So I have a theory...so he said that when the bell fell on the actor skeleton (I don't remember his name) that it just created more problems because as we saw before skeletons can just fall apart and put themselves back together but what if skeletons can die when their death experience reoccurred. Like the bell. I don't know...it was just a thought...and if you decide to make a video please can I have a shoutout?

    I kind of assumed it was the same way some countries have mandatory military service once you graduate. So in the Land of the Dead, once you get there, you are required to do some sort of job for however long to keep the place running. Maybe if someone really liked their job, they could keep it longer.

  • @peaches8
    @peaches8 6 лет назад +8

    I also wondered if you die with a sickness or disformity/ mental issues do you go into the land of the dead with them? Because I thought you should be "comfortable" in the land of the living. Another thing, you constantly see people who are about 20-60 years old in the land of the dead, you barely see people like that young girl or old people like Coco ( Miguel's Great-Grandmother). So does that mean everyone dies at an early age?

    • @milimulti24
      @milimulti24 6 лет назад +2

      Christian Ali Really? I always thought that Dante was just a dog and that later he becomes Miguel's alebrije. That he made Miguel meet Héctor because he had some kind of intuition that he was Miguel's relative.

    • @christianali5431
      @christianali5431 6 лет назад +2

      Milagros Montero I think Hector had Dante only because Miguel needs to be dead before getting an Alebrije. Also, Dante is almost exactly the same as Hector to some extent. At first sight, both of them come across as slobbering animals that some might condemn to the street [like Hector’s wife did to him] But when given the chance, reveal a secret nobility that only their closest friends and family get to see. There’s also a scene in the film where Hector is performing on stage for the first time in just under a century, and when he and Miguel give their best gritos to each other, Dante begins howling off stage, suggesting that both he and Hector share emotions and react in similar ways to the same thing [In this case, how much Hector loves music]. Of course, without the writers confirming it, I’m not 100% certain, but this might explain why Dante was able to find Hector and Miguel when they were thrown down that pit, and only changed back into his Alebrije form after Miguel realized that Hector was his great great grandfather, which could have been Dantes mission all along. As a fun little sidenote: Imeldas Alebrije also comes to the land of the living, and takes on a mortal shape as well. It turns into a cat.

  • @blurryink115
    @blurryink115 6 лет назад +3

    I feel like this problem could’ve been solved in the making of the film. The skeletons with jobs could’ve been replaced by alebrijes, they’d be in charge of the shops and law and custodies and not the dead. I feel like the alebrijes weren’t used as much as they could’ve been so I think this would solve both problems. The thing with people being rich and poor would have to do with being remembered. Maybe to pay for luxuries in the land of the dead you’d pay with your offerings that you got from being remembered or just the essence of being remembered may be enough to pay for lavish items. The people who lived in the slums of the land of the dead I believe wouldn’t all be actual poor people in real life since I’m sure even poor families and such would be remembered and not every hobo is forgotten.

  • @42Fossy

    It's strongly implied that physical ailments no longer affect you once you're in the land of the dead - Coco is seen able to walk just fine, and so is Frida Kahlo even though both were wheelchair-bound in life - so I don't think old people will have trouble performing in jobs there.

    This is a little bit of a side note but I think people don't necessarily appear in the land of the dead just as they were when they died. Coco is an old skeleton, but Mama Imelda's is the same age she was in that photo on the offrenda. So the skeletons appear as they are in their photos. As people will remember them. So, kids in the land of the dead may not have died as kids.

    I think part of the reason there are jobs in the land of the dead is for sentimental purposes. Technically, the land of the dead could just provide everyone with nice houses, good food and entertainment. But they choose to have jobs for people because it makes them feel good, like everything has a working order as in life. If people have everything they need, they eventually tire of it, we see that effect in WALL-E. Of course, your idea makes sense too, but I think that this might be another reason for having jobs in the land of the dead.

    At the end of the film, Ernesto didn't get crushed. He got trapped underneath the bell. I don't think he would be forgotten under the bell, because Hector's story would be told, including Ernesto's betrayal. Hector would be remembered greatly, while Ernesto would suffer, trapped forever under the bell.

    There's another factor at play: fame in the land of the living would effect fame in the land of the dead, because fans would have been aware of this person when they we're alive. When Ernesto de la Cruz died, anyone who had been a fan of his who had died before him would have been aware of him immediately. And since he was still well-known in the land of the living long after his death, anyone who was a fan of him since his death would end up being a fan in the land of the dead. For someone like Hector who wasn't famous in the land of the living, gaining fame in the land of the dead would be almost impossible, because people who were famous in the land of the living have an obvious competitive advantage. I suspect that there would be very few celebrities in the land of the dead who aren't also celebrated in the land of the living.

    The worst thing is that they probably know the answers to this, because when you build a world you have to know a lot about it and through the process of making a huge project you get to know it. I wish they would just release books for each movie they come out with that tell us how the world works

    Teachers teach the kids. Old people watch the kids. RUclipsrs do something similar to their channel's purpose before. Pewdiepie, Markiplier and JSE would be comedians. Seamus, you'd probably be an afterlife analyst - a theologian of sorts. Music channels do music, kids' channels entertain children. Channels dedicated to a fandom run game shows with specific trivia or run specialized museums.

    Could you do a video about all these hints in Coco that point to Héctor being Miguel's great-great grandfather since the beginning of the movie and De La Cruz being the main antagonist? (based on the fact that the man in the picture on the Rivera family ofrenda is obviously not as muscular as Ernesto and why De La Cruz would have his "Sunrise Spectacular" on the final day of Dia de los Muertos)

    My theory on jobs pertains to straight up boredom. Their needs are met, so there isn't need for money. They work or follow their passions purely for something to do.

  • @bandotaku

    I think their offerings are their currency. Ernesto probably didn't start in a big house, but was able to buy it with all the offerings he got. It's the reason Hector is in the slums, because he can't get offerings. You can see people exchange them for goods and deposit them in banks in the movie.

  • @Never_Really_Here

    I wondered the same thing when I first watched the movie, but I don’t think it creates that many problems. I either assumed they got jobs they wanted to have when they were alive, since they didn’t have much holding them back. Or I thought they continued their previous jobs, like the Rivera, because Mama Imelda was seen wearing a work apron like the living Rivera’s that worked in the shop. As for elders and children, I guess they would be the responsibility of the family, or maybe they could work too depending on their age. Miguel is technically a child, but he could still help around, and Mama Imelda is up there in years but still capable of work. The line of who can and can’t work is arbitrary, just like in the real world. A better question would be if the children stay frozen in their mind development, or do they have 80+ year old mentality in their 5 year old body.

    Why is mama Coco old at the end of the movie. If it’s because of the picture of her, then what about the ones without pictures. How are their looks decided. If it’s because she was that old when she died then why was mama Imelda so young. She would of died when Coco was in her teens.

    • @milimulti24

      Ryan Pettit Vlogs I don't think mamá Imelda is too young. She does have some grey hair (a few of them, but that means she's not the same age as in the photo)

    Another question; why did Coco have to remember her father? Because since Miguel went back to the living world, now Miguel remembers him. The only thing I can think is that they have to remember what he was like when he was living, and since Miguel never met him it wouldn't work.

    Why is Coco look older than her parents in the land of the dead? Is it because of what age she died, or because of her picture on the ofrenda?

    Where do you think the land of the dead ends? Is it just an island in the middle of the ocean, or is it a separate land of itself? Does it have non urban areas? How did the homes appear and how do they stand without falling over? When the first people died who were remembered, was everything already constructed? SO many questions we probably won't find answers to.
