I imagine most of this comes from Multicultural London (or British) English and the languages that have influenced that, as someone suggested below with the observation that some of this UK slang sounds quite Caribbean.

Came here solely for the slang term: moist. I'm British through my mother's side but happen to reside in Canada. Moist (this video) brought up memories of the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau using the word: moist. Correction, moistly - during a COVID-19 daily press conference. And, when asked about the use of masks, Justin replied: It protects others more than it protects you because it prevents you from breathing or speaking moistly on them. It hit me differently being British than how it effected Canadians. Glad to have come across the term online.

I think it’s because there is a large Caribbean community there. So over the years , some words and saying stick around , eventually becoming part of the slang .
@@carlmcpherson2397 yes and no.. patois, just like any other creole dialect/language, is a mix of all the linguistic influences of African slaves, European slave masters, Indigenous people and Asian indentured servants. But similarly to AAVE, patois was considered an inferior language, so it wouldn't have made its way back to England because up until even my parents' generation, patois was sadly considered a lower class dialect. Thankfully now more people have embraced it with the global popularity of dancehall and reggae.

Yeah I went into a london spa years ago - paid for a spa, sauna, hot tub, gym session. Got into the spa area and had this group of 8 guys some white some black some Asian all with tags on their ankles which at the time I thought was some kind of new Fitbit. They said something like she is Peng and piff ting innit? - probably wrong but that's what it sounded like. I assumed they were being nasty so left and went home. Interesting slang, and I was still none the wiser as to what it meant but when I told my mate Chris (from Jamaica) he was literally rolling around on the floor in hysterics. More about the fitbit than the slang. Prefer aussie slang!
As an American, I knew NONE of these lol. Only one I THOUGHT I recognized was “clapped”, in US, clapped could mean killed or taken out, or gotten; example in the context of a video game your character gets clapped/killed

Most of these words have been derived from our parents native language and has just been passed down generations. The fact that it's mostly used by ethnic minorities is why you're so happy to call it roadman/hoodlum. It's spoken by everybody not just by 'roadman' or people from ends. I've never seen anybody call anybody who speaks cockney 'hoodlum.' So like I said your racism/prejudice is jumping out.
The Aussie slang was mostly Sydney/Melbourne slang, most of it isn't shared across the rest of the country. The rest of Australia uses the mostly typical slang people would associate with Aussies, like "yeh nah", "Good On Ya", "yous" (you plural), "servo" (pertrol/gas station) etc. I don't think I've ever heard anyone actually use "fair dinkum"/"crikey" in real conversation, outside of a few older people in Melbourne, or people trying to further-impersonate an Aussie as an Aussie already.... Like other comments, this is really just comparing distinct cities' slang terms. London v Melbourne/Sydney Having grown up in Melbourne and now living in the other half of the country, there is way less use of unique slang that I've experienced, especially something like and "shamozzle..." p.s FYI It's "Bottle-O" not bottlo. There was confusion because it was written as one whole word, sounding more like a verb than a noun, since of course it's the name of an ACTUAL bottle/alcohol shop.

Like how 'The Adventures of Barry McKenzie' portrayed a shallow and illinformed parody of Australian culture in the 1960s--for example less than half of one quarter of a percent of Australians ever drank Foster's Lager--none of these supposed Aussies seem to have a clue about modern Australian slang. Where did they get their knowledge base from? Perhaps a cheesy English RUclips from the early years of this century. No one has used 'fair dinkum' for generations.

Nah ours is pretty general. Tbf the London slang is used more across the UK these days, it's just amongst 2000s kids

Yeah I went into a london spa years ago - paid for a spa, sauna, hot tub, gym session. Got into the spa area and had this group of 8 guys some white some black some Asian all with tags on their ankles which at the time I thought was some kind of new Fitbit. They said something like she is Peng and piff ting innit? - probably wrong but that's what it sounded like. I assumed they were being nasty so left and went home. Interesting slang, and I was still none the wiser as to what it meant but when I told my mate Chris (from Jamaica) he was literally rolling around on the floor in hysterics. More about the fitbit than the slang. Prefer aussie slang!

As an American, I knew NONE of these lol. Only one I THOUGHT I recognized was “clapped”, in US, clapped could mean killed or taken out, or gotten; example in the context of a video game your character gets clapped/killed

Most of these words have been derived from our parents native language and has just been passed down generations. The fact that it's mostly used by ethnic minorities is why you're so happy to call it roadman/hoodlum. It's spoken by everybody not just by 'roadman' or people from ends. The Aussie slang was mostly Sydney/Melbourne slang, most of it isn't shared across the rest of the country. The rest of Australia uses the mostly typical slang people would associate with Aussies, like "yeh nah", "Good On Ya", "yous" (you plural), "servo" (pertrol/gas station) etc. I don't think I've ever heard anyone actually use "fair dinkum"/"crikey" in real conversation, outside of a few older people in Melbourne, or people trying to further-impersonate an Aussie as an Aussie already....
Like other comments, this is really just comparing distinct cities' slang terms. London v Melbourne/Sydney
Having grown up in Melbourne and now living in the other half of the country, there is way less use of unique slang that I've experienced, especially something like and "shamozzle..."
p.s FYI It's "Bottle-O" not bottlo. There was confusion because it was written as one whole word, sounding more like a verb than a noun, since of course it's the name of an ACTUAL bottle/alcohol shop.

Where did they get their knowledge base from? Perhaps a cheesy English RUclips from the early years of this century. No one has used 'fair dinkum' for generations.
