Git r’ done is not the same as innit. ~ a Texan.
Agreed
100% agreed! WTF?!
Thank you
Born and raised Texan here and Git R Done isn’t the same as “innit.” It’s usually used as a way of saying something like “alright” or “awesome” (as a response to something) or literally “get it done” (like to do something). Also I’ve never seen it spelled like that. They should’ve done “tump” as in “tumptit-over” (I’m spelling it phonetically here). It took my northern friends some time to get that one. These brits did pretty good otherwise!
Yeah, its usually 'Get 'er done'
never heard tump tho.
I think "Git R Done" is where they went because of Larry the Cable Guy making the phrase A Thing, except he's not from Texas.
Native Texan here too. 100% agree.
Also - Raisin' Cain doesn't have a g ;)
They forgot "Bless your heart"
Is Git R Done like a regional thing in Texas? I’ve never heard of this phrase before today.
On second thought I haven’t heard of most of the terminology said throughout the video.
As a Texan, some of the vid's definitions were wrong and the people were spot on. 😂😂😂
As a texan, i saw raising cain and immediately thought, "the answer is a delicious chicken place with great fries, and the best lemonade that puts chickfila to shame."
Except raising cane's is bland af without their sauce.
OMG ...that sauce!
lol from Texas too and same
the sauce is so good
Overrated!! Chicken has no flavor.
I live in Texas and most of these phrase are generic Deep South phrases , others I have never in my life heard a real person say. This is not "Texas" slang.
It depends on age and region if some of those are used or not. I' a 50 yr old born and raised Texan, I lived there for the first 40 years of my life. Only one I'd say I never heard was the "That dog don't hunt." But I may not have heard it because I stayed in the DFW metro area. My mom was from the panhandle and had some different slang.
A few words I heard but not same definition as this. "Raisin' Cain" is to cause to be lively or create mayhem.
"Get R done" ? = nope it was "Git 'er done" and meant to " go do it" as in "I already gave you a chore, now git 'er done!"
@@Katzztar most of this stuff I’ve never heard
That's about right. I grew up in South Texas, land of the free and the home of the brave,. My family always said howdy. Now everyone says hi. Makes me wonder what this world is a coming to.
Yes it is my grandparents both maternal and paternal were saying them and they were born and raised in Texas well actually I just remembered my paternal grandpa was born in New Mexico but raised in Texas.
Texas City here. I agree. Start with fixin’, then “what kind of Coke do you want”? Raining like a cow pissin’ on a flat rock.
They're more Texan than I am. The only one that I knew was "fixin' to". Texas is so large though, each region has their own slang. I live an hour from Mexico and a ton of slang used here is Spanish. The interesting thing is that you don't have to be a Spanish speaker to use it as it's ingrained in our daily verbiage.
The dfw area doesn’t really use much of the “common” slang that isn’t accurately common Springtown needs less California
Texan here, I thought everyone knew what all get out meant.
Oh you mean "finna"?
I'm from Houston, and we English speakers say things like "where is the baño", "una mas cervesa, por favor", "see you mañana" and so on. Even my mom from the Midwest says these things all the time.
As a Texan from “cowtown” I didn’t understand half of these at first until I realized they were saying the words the wrong way 🤣 like “piddle’o” shoulda been “piddle’ole” and most of those phrases we just turn into one word like “fixin to” would be “fixnna” or “finna” 🤠
I say "fixinta."
Well y’all are more Californian than small cities near Fort Worth Springtown doesn’t do the same as y’all and we are only 45 minutes away MAX
Yeah, half the definitions were so bad too. I’m a native and they left me confused/questioning my own understanding of words and phrases lol
Same
He's having a conniption fit was how we used it lol. Not in years again. Crazy. Raising Cain is like raising hell I think.
Over yonder (over there)
Y'all (you all)
Fixin' to (going to)
Have a conniption (throw a fit/tantrum)
Corn-fed (big and tall)
Skeeters (mosquitos)
Worsh (wash)
Coke (literally any soda)
Some I've heard personally as a Texan
Someone pin this
Piddlin' around (kind of lazily doing minor tasks or nothing at all)
Conniption.. like, you're having a conniption fit.
I feel like this is East Texas or maybe West Texas slang(think ranches and agriculture-built towns), not Texas as a whole. Maybe BuzzFeed doesn't realize that the slang changes according to what region or even town/city/metroplex that you belong to. I'm certain that we say things up here in Dallas/Fort Worth that people down in Houston or Austin wouldn't recognize and vice versa.
Things definitely vary throughout the state. I have never in my life even heard some of these things said let alone know what they mean and I've lived in this state my entire life.
Im from east texas never heard most of these and these are like old old slangs
Exactly. I’m from Dallas, too. I feel like most of this is super outdated. I’m curious to know where they got these from
@@mictlante Sorry I gotta laugh because... you're right! XD I'm 50 yrs old and was born (Corpus Christi) & raised (DFW metro) in Texas, didn't move out until 40.
I heard most of those, except "that dog don't hunt" and "corn-fed".
While I heard most of them, some of those words had different meaning or was only half of the phrase. "Git R Done" was "git 'er done" and wasn't a filler phrase, instead it was 'go do it' or 'get to it' = "I already gave you a chore, now git 'er done!"
Frankly, I have to wonder if they got this "filler phrase" from a Southern comedian from 90s/2000s (contemporary of Tim Allen) that would use it as his catch phrase and would throw it in his jokes all the time, often at the end of them ...and I don't know if that guy was from Texas or not. All I really remember about him was rolling my eyes at just how often he'd use the phrase.
Some I did use as shown= Dad gum it! interchangeable with dag nap it! (thanks Elmer Fudd!) was a fave as a kid back in the 70s as it was seen as a "kid friendly" version of a swear to express frustration or disappointment.
Conniption- that's only half of it= "conniption fit" meaning to throw a hissy fit, to make a fuss about something.
Definitely not eastern Texas. I live in the North East and we have a very generic American accent without the use of any slang.
" Bless your heart " " Y'all " "Have a good one " " Alrighty " " Much obliged " " Whataburger " " Give me/be there in a minute " " I'm up the street " " Fixin "
All the words I say on a weekly basis 🤠
Innit and git r done are not the same or relatively similar. Innit is more like "ain't it" or "isn't it"
Git r done is said when something/someone needs a lil push/motivation to get something done or completed. It's also figurative in that way.
Disappointed in whoever put together this information
Also, never seen "dad gum it" but rather "dag on it" (more phonetically bc idk how to spell it) which would be equivalent to darn it or damn it.
I grew up both in the north and south, east coast US.
Let’s start off this way:
Two, to, too, and tuh.
Fixin to.... Not it 🤔
Conniption fit. “Everything is so messed up, I’m about to have a conniption fit”…
Literally have not heard 95% of these and I’ve lived in Texas my entire life
I’m from Dallas. I feel like a lot of this is stuff people in East or west Texas would say or stuff old Texans would say. I used to work at Waffle House and the old regulars would say some of this
@@Okra_winfrey i live in San Antonio and never heard these exept git r done but used ironically
Lived in Texas nearly my entire life and was born here. I've heard most of these. It depends on where you live though.
I’m from Texas and when I visited England I had no problems with people understanding me until I said mayonnaise. 😵💫
Just say Mayo.
@@lionofpersisdadgummit
Wait, they don’t say mayonnaise in England?!?
Tejanos have an entirely different set of slang too. All in Texas.
Yeah, what ever happened to the term "Shoot It!" Or " Damnit boy". I sure did like it when the girls told me that one.
Without getting to specific, they weren't kidding about British teeth.
Born and raised in Texas and have literally never heard most of these before. The couple I have heard were from southern comedians or as a joke, no one actually says this, at least not in the cities where the normal people live.
Corn fed -- in beef a corn fed steer is top choice , prime.
Never heard any of this in Texas.
How
@@livinginstereo cause i live in texas and accents vary
These are all SUPER old idioms. I feel like only old people say this stuff. The only thing on this list I’ve ever said is “that dog won’t hunt.”
@@Okra_winfrey My guy I'm raised in the countryside of Texas, I say alot of these things and I'm 14 Lmao
@@GhostOfKotori you said the magic word: country lol I’m from Dallas.
Kinda cringey that her first thought of "bigger in Texas" was a burger. They're more known for their BBQ.
True
Both
@@christopherjernigan673 Don't let them stereotype us Americans. Each state has better food than just burgers.
True, we Texans are known for BBQ, but I was wondering if she got that from Whataburger which started in Texas. ... doesn't really matter in the end as Texas IS known for BBQ, brisket and Tex-Mex more than burgers.
As a Texas i’m proud to say you all look like buzzfeed people
Buzzfeed this is all wrong no one talks like this. I LIVE IN TEXAS AND HAVE NEVER HEARD PPL TALK LIKE THIS
Then you haven't been in Texas very long
Lol it’s not wrong, it’s just REALLY outdated. Old people still say almost all of this
It depends on where you're from.
I’m a Texan and this is the funniest thing to look at
Lived in Texas all my life. Heard all of these except for conniption and piddlee'o.
Haha I live in Florida but we still are in the south and I feel British actors in movies are very good at doing a southern accent.
In michigan the lot of us don't pronounce the I in Florida.
@@kryptickodex3846 I'm in Florida and I don't say the I either.
Lol... neither do us in Texas..... actually......is there an i in Florida???(he asks with sarcasm)
I'm VERY impressed with how well the actors in The Walking Dead do Southern accents. They do it much better than American non-Southerners.
Anybody remember suffering through the TV show "Dallas"?
Florida is southern but like it’s just different in it’s own way
I am a born n raised Texan and haven’t been exposed to some of these phrases 😂 must be in a different region
As a Californias, when I hear Texas, I think of Republicans and BBQ.
What's a "californias"?
@@livinginstereo they meant Californian. Aka someone from the state of California.
You’re not wrong
Lol from a Texan
I’m from Dallas. That’s basically Texas in a nutshell 🥴😂
“You’re having a conniption fit” is how you would you use that in a sentence my mother loved that one and “that dog don’t hunt” she always said that when me or my brother were telling a really bad lie😂😂
Yeah, I haven’t heard most of these as someone who’s always lived in Texas.
I rarely hear people say “git r done”, unless it’s in an ironic sense. I agree with everyone else, it doesn’t mean “innit”.
I only hear “piddele’o” from like grandmas.
It’s “da’ gum” or “dag gum”. I mostly hear “dag gone it/dag gone it all to hell”
I think “sho ‘nuff” would be more like “sure ‘nuff”. I don’t really hear people use it like a saying though.
I’ve noticed Texas lingo is basically just taking a whole sentence and trying to fit it into 2-3 words. There’s also a lot of passive aggressive sweetness with things like “Bless your heart”.
Dad gummit omg... Haven't heard that in so long. My dad used to say it all the time when we were kids but he's from Boston Massachusetts haha.
I'm from NC and I've heard/used all of these 😂😂😂
Same here from VA
Exactly! I am from Louisiana we use some of these. I live in Texas and rarely hear any of these once you're outside of East Texas, Dallas and Houston ( the Deep South portion of Texas).
Because the attributed southern slang to Texan slang.
Born and raised in Texas and I have never ever used the phrases "Git r done or corn fed. " The lies.
The Texan version of “innit” is “idn’it” or “ain’t’it”
I'm from Oklahoma originally, as well my family, and these are all said and are continued to be said there. Heck, I still say these! Lol
Thank god you could escape hell on earth
Well, shoot I’m quite late to your comment but me too! I think we sorta get forget about because Texas is right there, but my family uses these terms too. I love saying them too😂
I’m a native and I’ve never heard anyone say the majority of these words. Where did you get this from?
You are more apt to hear these words in small towns, than larger cities such as Austin, Dallas, or Houston. One last thing, it’s extremely rare to see someone wearing a cowboy hat. The majority of people who haven’t visited Texas think you when you walk down the street everyone will be wearing one. In fact, I think it’s a bit odd when on a rare occasion you see somebody wearing one. You forgot to include the most common word in Texas, and that’s ya’ll. I don’t say that, when I see my friends I’ll just say, how’s it going you guys. Enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing!
Are you from Austin? In Houston and East Texas in general, cowboy hats and most of these phrases are everywhere. Texas doesn’t claim Austin anymore.
- born in Galveston, raised in Houston, live in East Texas
Texan here. Family has been here since before it was a state. Lived in the country parts of Texas, REAL Texas, my whole life. About half of these, NOBODY in Texas says. One of these words, Piddlee-o, not me, my father, or grandfather, has EVER heard in this state, and that covers about 100 years of Texas living.
TX slang and FL slang go hand in hand for the most part apparently but specifically NORTH FL since it's more country around here. Texas has us beat tho in regards to being country.
you're taking over this comment section😂
@@Basedjeevs sorry I'm bored lol
Never realized how strange our slang is 😂😂 but also a lot of these we don’t use in everyday life or it’s taken out of context or the definition isn’t accurate
Conniption is a noun. “Fixin to have a conniption” is one way of using it in a sentence. It’s also commonly used with “fit” like “conniption fit”.
I’m from East Texas and a lot of these track with the country stereotype, but Git-R-Done is a Larry the Cable Guy thing. Isn’t really used that much anymore, maybe in the mid 2000s but not anymore. The rest have been passed down.
Also, it’s not “That Dog Don’t Hunt,” it’s “That Dog (just) ain’t Gonna Hunt.”
“He did it with conniption.” 😂
I’ve never heard any of these but also i’m Houston so like there’s people from everywhere
Conniption is generally used as an adjective as in having a conniption fit.
get r done means get that shit done
Bless their hearts.
Most of this is highly incorrect.
... and super outdated. Somebody REALLY old made this list lol
“Fixin it” is not a phrase we use. I’ve never heard somebody say that. We say “fixin to” which means literally I am about to or was about to do something. I’ve heard all of these phrases before they aren’t unique to Texas they are more or less general southern slang. Also I’ve never heard it said like “that dog don’t hunt” I’ve heard “that dog won’t hunt”
Not all of us in Texas talk like this. Especially in the DFW.
Dad gum it can also be interchanged with dang nab it
Haven't heard of some of these. And most of these listed aren't really still used... Old slang I would say. Only two of these I still here when I go to the country parts of Texas.
Corn fed is describing a big ol son of a buck.
No.
Quite literally git r done is in no way equivalent to innit, git r done is like saying “just do it dammit” or “yeah man good job” depending on the tone
We use innit the same way. Git r done was never a thing until larry the cable guy
Git r dun is from a guy from Nebraska. Not from Texas
Born and raised in the best country that is Texas. And only heard of maybe 3 of em being used.
Don’t watch Boomhauer from king of the hill. You’ll be up for days trying to figure out what he said.
I've never heard anyone say Piddleeo . Literally never heard that word.
I’m upset LMAO I’m a born and raised Texan and I don’t know half this shit. But what I do know is that git r done is NOT the same as innit
Can’t forget “Do what?”
A conniption is when someone is blowing their top, loosing their temper. Those folks need to calm down before they blow a gasket
Born and raised in the center part of Texas. Corn-fed doesn't mean your a coward. It means your big, and husky. Like thick muscular guy.
Conniption is a fit. "Fixin to" is accurate. Nobody says "Sho nuff". Nobody says "Piddlee o" Try these: "Ate up with the dumbass." "You got chingale'd. "Nombre dude." "Your barn is all woppyjawed." "What kind of Coke do you want from H.E.B.?" Can we get some real Texas language please?
Fixin' it, no no no. Its Fixin to.
Texan here. I’ve never once in my life anyone say piddleeo. Pretty sure that’s not a thing.
Half these phrases we don't use in Texas colloquially . I'm confused.
As a Texan never heard of any of this. I live near the city. Sooo
Lol that’s why. If you’re from the city, the only time you’ll hear stuff like this is if you’re talking to somebody old or taking a trip to the country, like east or west Texas
Okay, I know a Texan did not write this. It’s not Fixin’ It, it’s Fixin’ to! Like I’m fixin’ to go to the store, fixin’ to get my lunch ready. Fixin’ = About.
I have never heard of piddlee'o. Piddlee, yes. Never have I heard an o added to the end of it. Also, most of these words are not used in everyday conversation. I don't think I've heard anyone say Get r done since 2005 when Larry the Cable Guy was running around shouting it everywhere.
Piddleo, also Piddlin’.
Raisin Cain was correct when that guy said “Hell Raisin”. It’s like making a big deal out out of an argument or causing a huge commotion
nice i knew most of em. only two i didnt know, All Git-Out and Piddlee-o.
yall wrote “Fixing It” , but everyone seemed to be saying “Fixing to”, im sure that was just a typo, cause people everywhere say “im fixin it” when repairing something right? or no? lol.
also conneption... did i spell that right? word ive never seen written lol. only heard in the phrase “you are throwing a conniption fit”. like a tantrum?
As someone born and raised in Houston Texas, damn near none of these definitions are correct
As a Michigander, I understand none of these. lol
I’m sorry but this is far from Texas slang 😂😂 Texas is too big to say that any of us have slang terms let alone some type accent, that’s just like saying America’s main language is English, cause it’s not
"Fixin IT"??? 😂 No, that is NOT a Texas saying! It is "fixin to"!
I am a Texan and I say this is funny
Git r done is absolutely not the same as innit - Also a Texan
Git r' done means hurry up or finish it ~ a texan
I have a hard time believing anybody from here would fucking say piddlee’o
Are the British Reps two gay men and one Indian woman? Crazy.
You all should guess Massachusetts slang
Texas, East all my life. I knew and say, them all
Whoever supplied these words does not live in my part of Texas. And they did not spell them right.
But at the same time Texas is a very big state. 800 miles north to south and 750 miles east to west. Your looking at 12 hours east to west and 14 hours north to south. The slang probably veries from region to region.
Dang Yankees
Fixin it means fixing it haha. I’m born and raised in this great state of Texas. Now fixin to is a Texas phrase that means you are going to do something or about to do something. Fixin to is Texas. Fixin it just means fixing it lol
Fixin’ to not fixin’ it
Git R Done isn't innit...
Look up Pittsburguees we have the worst accent it’s a mix of the south and north
Don't try to talk Texas if you ain't from Texas. It makes it sound like you ain't from Texas.
No real person says "git r done" only larry the cable guy
Not one of these expressions is remotely peculiar to Texas.
This isn’t all of Texas slang. Y’all left out Black Texas Slang
i haven't heard of most of them but they saying it slowly
A conniption is a fit.
I’m from Minnesota and I didn’t know like most of these words meanings
