The “do not force one to use it” is because weighted blankets were originally designed for autistic people and forcing someone to use it during a meltdown could be incredibly distressing.

I have restless leg syndrome and my weighted blanket helps and also a history of leg spasms it just calms my anxiety but the only problem is in the summer it’s gets way to hot.

The extra weight comes from the fabric - manufacturers put in 15 pounds of beads and the last three account for a blanket. A reference point for fabric weights is that jeans usually weigh around 2 - 5 pounds depending on your size. Learnt that from being over in baggage on flights.

Ever since I was about 14 I really enjoyed having my comforter on top of the duvet to weigh it down so cold air would be able to slip in along the sides. Then when pandemic hit there was a sale on the weighted blankets (and my friend had one that they really really liked so I was already interested in trying one) so I thought, why not? And in hindsight I actually think I used the comforter for the very same reasons you'd use a weighted blanket, except the weighted blanket achieved it even better.
And you do feel like a burrito :)

They are honestly the best. The husband got me one for our anniversary this year and it has helped a freaking ton. I usually just snuggle under it for a bit on the couch, but on really bad days it comes to bed with me.

@@nathaliemillerr Definitely take your time and pick the right weight for your body. Also material. The one I got was a cotton knit. Kinda feels like a t shirt. Some of them are more blanket or quilt like. Just something to keep in mind if you are worried about getting too warm. Mine stays fairly cool.
It helped me so much. With insomnia too. I used to wake up every 30-60 minutes every night, paranoid that I would miss my alarm, but even on nights I didnt have an alarm. Now i sleep until my alarm goes off. My brother got it to me for christmas, and he ordered one the next day for himself. Highly recommend them.

Is anyone else here on the autism spectrum and noticed how many traits Cristine has displayed and/or described over the years? The whole "I'm a sock" thing; avoiding social contact unless it's on her terms, or just limiting her time with others; the way her videos evolved from having none of her face or voice, to just her voice, to speaking on camera; the way she's so detail-oriented and strives for perfection in her polishes, the analytical and fact-based job she has working with statistics... I can't be the only Aspie who has noticed. I myself was late-diagnosed at age 43 about 5 years ago.

I’m afraid that might actually be dangerous. She could slip under the covers and suffocate, or maybe the weight will be too much and put stress on her rib cage over an extended amount of time (in turn, it might make her take in less oxygen than she needs) I’m probably too cautious, but if she is going to do it then there should be someone watching her.
