It was a qualifier, I don't recall endlessly celebrating qualifier wins during the charlton years unless maybe if they were the final result needed to qualify. I have looked at the table and games again and germany had already effectively qualified as first in the group - it was a nothing game to them.

You can say what you like about Martin O’Neill, but he engineered a victory against a German team that not one of our players would have made it on to the starting 11. Just think about that for a minute. It also goes to show, there’s not a thing wrong with the odd long ball.
Was there with 3 of the lads, we were stood up in the upper tier behind the goal, when Long smashed the ball past Neuer. Brilliant!!!!
Long was the fastest man in the Premiership at that time. That paid off at that moment!

I’m back here after the misery vs misery vs Luxembourg
If it's any consolation the current Luxembourg team is their best ever and they've been picking up some results lately. But yeah, when I saw the score I was like "is this a typo"? But when I looked at Luxembourg's recent results they've been doing okay and they've definitely elevated themselves above the likes of San Marino and Andorra

Korea/Japan 2002 was probably their best run and were extremely unlucky against Spain in the knock out round. If you watch that match back you'll understand why. And that's the same year Roy Keane abandoned ship.
we have to be positive for the future - its typical for us to drop the heads but its not so long ago that we did this to the world champions. It can be seeds of hope for better things
