Ireland's UEFA Euro 2016 adventure came to an end at the hands of the hosts France in the round of 16.

I remember watching this game live in school I'm Irish I live in Ireland and Griezmann broke my heart.
We had a great euros ngl. Put up a great fight against France, great performance against Sweden and a classic win against Italy

@@Brickcellent No one stated otherwise, so were Germany. Having a week rest is a massive advantage.
First, 7 days vs 4 days to begin with. Secondly, that teams who won their group (especially the hosts) get a favorable treatment against 3rd-placed teams is only fair. Thirdly, if you feel like whining against the organizers and UEFA, you can always remember that - given that you've qualified in 3rd place of your qualifyng group and through the playoffs - you would never have even participated in the Euro if the competition had not been extented that year from 16 to 24 teams. Loved the Irish team in this competition nonetheless.
If Ireland payed like this we’d be playing in the euros next week easily

If Irish people suported local teams like Boehmians, Bray, Dundalk, Cork City instead of pumping the money into the English premiership through sky sports subscriptions we'd easily we'd have a better talent pool with a system to grow home talent.

I remember the French dominating us in the second half bar one half chance late on. Rewatching this, my memory was correct but at least the tournament banished the ghosts of Euro 2012

To be fair to McClean none of the other irish players would have gotten into that position in the first place. He powered past the right back. Agreed end product is shocking but that's what you get with mcClean.

We did so well to get this far, but can't help but think if it weren't for 10 minutes of madness we would have played Iceland in a Quarter-Final and god knows what would have happened after that, only ifs and buts though

@@RichardCummins1988 we are a nation that simply enjoys ourselves abroad and doesn’t start fights when our team lose or boo every other national anthem. We were literally dubbed the best fans of the tournament, read a book.

I’ve seen a good few Irish goals celebrated in my pub over the years but that brady pen will always stick out. While everyone loved it there was an awful feeling around the place of this is way to early

The Irish did very well to hold their own for as long as they could against a dangerous French side who has an extra week's rest before this game and who would go on to be World Champions two years later.
