    Vision Acuity and IOL characteristics - a defocus curve understanding.
    Your freedom of glasses and visual acuity at different distances depends on IOL type - is it monofocal cataract lens or one of presbyopia correcting IOL such as multifocal, bifocal, trifocal or EDOF IOL type, but main characteristic, which explains expected visual experience is a defocus curve.
    Defocus curve is a quantity of vision metrics, while quality of vision describes contrast sensitivity and color vision (will explain in my next video)
    If your vision with multifocal or EDOF IOL is not good - you may find an answer why it happened and what is possible to do in this video about multifocal IOL and use of glasses: • Presbyopia cataract le...

    Thanks for the quality content. Maybe you could talk about lenses that are Addon - like Sulcoflex Trifocal (made by Rayner) and Addon (made by 1stQ). Also it would be cool to know more about acriva trinova.

    Hi Alex, really appreciate your content, I am a 60 year old male with. 26mm eye and am considering elective IOL but am concerned about RD risk, do you think it is a good idea to proceed?

    • @iol-adviser
      @iol-adviser  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Thanks for your feedback :)
      Well, it is a good question. Actually risk of RD is relatively small, however surgical intervention increases that risk. Saying in "mass media way" it is increased by 4-5 times, saying in scientific way it is something like 0.2% with no surgical intervention and jumps to about 0.8-0,9% after IOL exchange. However in high myopic eyes risks are higher in any conditions. Very high myopia of more that -8D risk is higher, less than -8 it is about 0.4-0.7% with no surgery and about 0.8-1.4% after IOL exchange. More details I suggest to discuss with your doctor, who will do your eyes examination and give more details for your particular case.

    I wish you would slow down when talking. I have a question. I had aggressive cataracts and in 11/2020 I had bilateral cataract surgery. I wanted to be able to see computer distance and long distance. I did not get that. They put in mono lenses with one I having a toric lens due to astigmatism. Today May 16th 2021 My lenses are cloudy and I can't even read the print in my TV unless its big at 6 1/2 feet away. So originally I wanted premium lenses and the surgeon talked me out of it saying you really don't get close , intermediate, distance that you end up with les than quality vision. So I said give me symphony and again made all kinds of excuses. So at 4 weeks out I said I was not happy I have to use glasses more now than
    before surgery and didn’t feel my vision was crisp . He wanted to do yag instead of exchanging my lenses . I refused. I told him from the beginning my work reqires me to be on the computer 10-12 hrs a day as a nurse and I also give injections and he told me no matter what I would still need glasses . Of course I didn't believe it. My eyes are healthy except for astigmatism. I was wondering if Vivity would work for me ? I was told I don't have much for a script in distant vision but a 1 diopter of astigmatism and .5 in the other eye.

      Hi Joyce. Ok, I will try :)
      Regarding your question - what IOLs are implanted now? Type/ model?

    if I use Mono/focal Lens should I use a glass for reading ?what if I cut my hands nails, should I use glass too ??

    • @iol-adviser
      @iol-adviser  3 года назад +1

      Yes, with monofocal IOL (unless you requested myopic calculation) you will need glasses for near. If you request myopic vision, you will need glasses for far vision

    me again...!I am telling everyone about your channel! Do you think lens like tecnis multifocal lose much CS? Also do you think the Tecnis EyeHance is living up to what is being told that is, significantly better than monofocal ?

    • @iol-adviser
      @iol-adviser  3 года назад +1

      All Multifocal IOLs performs similar, Tecnis Multifocal is not an exception. Regarding Eyhance is it indeed true. I have quite a lot of feedback from the field from doctors and patients, and contrast sensitivity is similar to standard monofocal as well.
