- We've all been there-- you get your back finished and put it on your shoulder, and the straps are too long.... What a drag! I do not want to unpick all the stitches and fiddle with them, so I devised this technique for a quick solution. It looks a little "motorcycle" to me too, so I love it!
Supplies:
Glitter webbing or Cotton webbing -we have lots of this in the shop here: sewhungryhippie.com/search
Hole puncher, get it here on Amazon (affiliate link): amzn.to/48OaJ7t
Double-capped Rivets (stocking 12mm soon!)
KAM press, google it.
Fray Check or Fray Block, we have this essential item in the shop if you arrive in person.
Thanks to Marilyn for allowing me to use her bag as my example. 🥰
Vinyl is a previous Surprise Vinyl Club piece, called DreamStripes. We no longer carry this exclusive vinyl. Our club opens once every 4 months, if you'd like to get on the waitlist, visit our website linked below.

I love watching your videos!
Our sweet Marilyn is EXTRA motorcycle now!!! 🏍️
You got that right!
Looks like you answered my question before I saw this part of the video. Thanks
No problem 👍
Thanks Natalie... did this on very heavy double layer canvas straps. Could not punch thru , so use a large awl to make a hole. Then Chicago screws to hold strap ends together. Wrapped & glued a fabric tab around the cut end
100 A+s for making it work!!!!
What a fun look, thanks for sharing this!
Thanks for watching!
Greetings from dreary and rainy SW Florida.
Looks great!! Nice option
Thanks!
I don’t know what the material of your bag straps are but I was wondering do the cut ends have to be sealed to prevent raveling ? I really love your quickie method. I have seen metal pieces that can be applied to the ends of straps. Would this be a good thing at the ends of polypropylene webbing which needs a bit of help to prevent raveling . Heat melts it and leaves a bit of an edge. Why is it we just never get the length of the bag straps just right . Only after I have the entire bag sewn and finished do I decide it is a bit too long ! 😩
You can totally use those strap end things-- they are fabulous! I'll be stocking them very soon. I usually treat the ends with Fray Check, it works out fine.
Hey!!
I know which press id like to get but I get a little rattled over knowing which accessories to get?12mm I guess is a good start? What else is a good size?
I use mostly 12mm . Some Designers like to use 8mm.
Is there a front and back to the rivets?
Yes but they look the same at the end. It doesn't really matter how you apply them.
Hello from Seattle area 😊
Welcome!!
Hello loo’ like you can let Romel have that belt 😂😂
LOL!!!!!!!!
With rivets on shoulder strap, with 4 of these rivets…it won’t dig into shoulder when bag is full?
I mean maybe it will if you load a human being in the bag, but no - I load mine with groceries and it's fine.
Hey
Motorcycle look for a grocery bag lol
Now you need to sew up a black leather jacket to wear with your bag!!!🤣
