    What is selling the line for me is the succession of informative videos featuring Will. I hope she realises what an asset she is talking to.

    A great reminder that you don't have to be an insider to make a great leader for an organization.

    An excellent and informative video. The new CEO seems very enthusiastic about the railway and looks to give some real confidence in the future.

    Any plans for station-based tour guides to explain history, operations (like the token), explain why engines have different number / size wheels etc., etc.
    Any naturalists who could lead nature walks and show how the railway helps wildlife in the area? Paid tours for individuals, groups, schools etc.
    Also a signalling carriage with a model which youngsters can operate under guidance. I did this as a kid in Germany with an army sergeant beetling around the mod they used for training soldiers. I was 12 years old and, nearly 40 years later, I still remember most of what that sergeant taught ne in a single hour.

    Good luck to Rebecca, looking forward to what i'm hoping will be a long and bright future ahead.
    It's good to see things changing, the past year has left me very disappointed, not with the railway itself, spent way too much time here last year :P My issues mainly arose with the handling, marketing and promotion of events and running days. With ~1 week left until you re-opened temporarily in Feb half term, it wasn't officially clarified whether you were actually running or not and I was going through hell at the time so needed a few days to get away. Despite this, I do remember the first train on the wednesday being absolutely packed which was fantastic to see.
    Great to see you going over and publicising dates well in advance this year and rather nice to do it in the video too!

    Such an interesting conversation, full of enthusiastic engagement with a good healthy understanding and comfortable understanding of business, heritage, and the people, in short being the very cement that binds everything together

    ten years ago you had to get 5 people on the train to pay just for the coal, now its gone up to 25

    She is spot on. I live in swanage..the swanage railway tells you where it is. But without looking it . have no idea where the watercress line is. Its a dafr name because it means nothing to people in the next county let alone rest of the uk.
    Then its mentuined that actually its mid hands. So actually not far away from me yet i still dont really know where without looking it up. Oh for my descriptive names !

    Good luck to the new CEO, i hope the lessons from the mistakes of the last one has been learnt, you don't get second chances with public perception, it has to be right from the start, there are many other things only too willing to take trade away from you, should you get it wrong,

    Heritage steam operations whether in the U.K., U.S., Europe or anywhere produce so little "greenhouse emissions" that it's not even necessary to worry about the carbon footprint of such operations and there should be a local source of coal in the U.K. for the heritage operations.

    Glad she mentioned the Line's expenses and might wish to consider the cost to those donating (laughingly called a "tip") when using an outside agency which now seems to be the norm at the Watercress unlike other lines.

    Urie/Maunsell S15s, Lord Nelson, Schools class, S&D 7F are hardly postwar last generation of steam.

    • @RWJP
      @RWJP 10 месяцев назад +5

      They may have been built earlier, but everything you've named was in operation post-war and well into the BR era.

      Ignoring that Lord Nelson is out of ticket, Schools is also out of ticket and the 7f that, Guess What? is also out of ticket. The fleet will be the Ivatt tank(end of southern steam loco) 35005, 34007, 75079 and 30506. I'd say thats the last generation

      I think she meant the railway generally portrays a post war line. Almost all the stations, rolling stock and loco's are painted in post war or BR liveries.

      @danielholden-storey5107 10 месяцев назад

      @@shipsarerubbish To my knowledge 30506 was built pre WW2 - just a thought.

    It would be interesting to see what the carbon offset is for all of the trees etc that are alongside the line and the property that the railway occupies as this should count towards the carbon footprint of the railway, I am no expert but its an idea 🙂🙂

    • @gs425

      Perhaps. But all preservation is struggling at the moment so to survive it needs to be led by someone with a business head rather than steam heart. I'm sure she has plenty on her team who can advise on that front.
